In this article, I use translation as a metonym for secular transformations and, accordingly, I will demonstrate how secular ideology translates the Islamic tradition. A secular translation converts the Islamic tradition into “religion” (the non-secular) and Islamic law into “sharia” – a term intended to represent the English mispronunciation of the Arabic word شريعة (sharīʿah). I explore the differences between historical Islamic terms and secular terms in order to demonstrate that coloniality generates religion and religious law; in turn, these two notions convert شريعة (sharīʿah) into “sharia” in both Arabic and non-Arabic languages. Consequently, the notion of “sharia” is part of a colonial system of meaning.","PeriodicalId":33481,"journal":{"name":"IJIBE International Journal of Islamic Business Ethics","volume":"12 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73008898","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the Muslim community, the mosque, or known as \"Masjid\" in Arabic, is a place of worship for performing prayers and other religious-related activities. In conducting those activities, mosques usually receive funding from public donations, fundraising, \"waqaf\", the government and many more. Managing a mosque fund is crucial in order to build trust among the public, and simultaneously safeguard the mosque’s financial resources. Therefore, it is important for each mosque to adopt good financial management practices in managing funds effectively. The data for this study was collected through a questionnaire distributed to 23 respondents from 14 mosques in the district of Kuala Nerus, Terengganu, to explore their financial management practices. The descriptive analysis surprisingly shows that 79% of the mosques still use a manual system in managing their funds instead of a computerized accounting system. It is timely to develop a customized accounting system to cater the needs of mosques’ management to set up a systematic and efficient fund management.","PeriodicalId":33481,"journal":{"name":"IJIBE International Journal of Islamic Business Ethics","volume":"4 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78913008","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Religion and money are among the several antecedents of employee commitment in organizations. Employees’ religion and organizational monetary reward practices are of eagerly importance in an employee career. Organizations have been facing lack of commitment in their workforce because of less consideration on the monetary as well as spiritual aspects. A comparative analysis between these two antecedents will be helpful to find out the true aspect behind this shortfall in the health sector. This study aims to investigate the relationship between monetary reward practices and religious affiliation with employee commitment. Data was collected from 233 Muslim employees of the health sector of Pakistan and the correlation and regression analysis were done by SPSS. The findings interpret that monetary reward practices were found to be highly related to employee commitment and having more effective influence as compared to employee’s religious affiliation. The current study suggests the health sector of Pakistan to take an account in providing monetary benefits to the employees to strengthen their workplace commitment.","PeriodicalId":33481,"journal":{"name":"IJIBE International Journal of Islamic Business Ethics","volume":"107 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85389132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The concept was conceptualized and transformed into an instrument based on two methods, namely experts’ validity (using Lawshe’s technique with eight Malaysian certified Islamic financial planners and two representatives from the official Islamic religious departments in Kedah and Perlis states/Malaysia) and focus group session with seven experts in several related areas, i.e. Islamic philosophy, Islamic finance, and Islamic financial planning. This paper used a quantitative approach using questionnaire. The developed instrument was then distributed to 120 respondents to further improve its validity and two analyses were performed: reliability analysis and exploratory factor analysis. The finding of this study is a new validated instrument for the concept of Islamic wealth planning which contains two main sections, i.e. worldly financial planning and hereafter financial planning. The first section consists of income/investment planning, retirement planning, education (for the individual) planning, and Takaful/insurance planning, while the second section consists of education (for his/her family) planning, Faraid planning, Wasiyyah planning, Zakat/taxes planning, Hajj planning, Hibah planning, Waqf planning, and charitable financial planning. This paper contributes to the existing scarce studies in the area of Islamic wealth planning and management. In addition, this study contributes in transforming the Islamic wealth planning concept into a measurable instrument that can be used for several parties such as Islamic financial planners, high net worth individuals (HNWI) as well as middle class individuals, Islamic financial institutions, and researchers. Reading the text’s only reference to women as an occurrence of what Jacques Derrida calls textual self-reference, this essay explores how this statement functions as a key to the text’s gender discourse. The explicit reference, supported by evidence from Ibn ʿAṭāʾ Allāh’s other writings, mirrors the theory of embodiment and gender reflected through the text. This essay illuminates how conceptual descriptions of Sufi spirituality meant to reinforce the importance of transcending embodiment take on gendered meaning when read against explicit comparisons between women, the nafs and the dunyā. This paper highlights ways in which Ibn ʿAṭāʾ Allāh’s spiritual instructions encourage the performance of masculinity through the transcendence of embodiment, thus prompting conversations about spiritual cultivation’s groundedness in and reinforcement of normative gender discourses.","PeriodicalId":33481,"journal":{"name":"IJIBE International Journal of Islamic Business Ethics","volume":"4 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88800531","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The article begins by situating jawānmardī vis-à-vis its Arabic Sufi equivalent of futuwwa. Both of them convey a wide range of spiritual perfections ranging from wisdom and detachment to justice and pure generosity. Moreover, the article explores the specifically Persian emphasis on jawānmardī as an embodiment of the ideal type of lover of God. It will consequently be shown how, in the writings of such an influential figure as ʿAyn al-Quḍāt, jawānmardī is most prominently featured in three distinctive modes: an aspirational ideal, a realised concept, and the key to unlock the mystery of one of the greatest chevaliers, namely Iblīs.","PeriodicalId":33481,"journal":{"name":"IJIBE International Journal of Islamic Business Ethics","volume":"23 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75998423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
