This generic model is the formal basis of a tool for automatic graph generation that we have developed. This tool automatically generates the basic multi-partite graph that represents the arbitrary data provided as input. Our tool provides an interface for the user to specify the nodes and edges that are relevant for the application domain in each case. Those nodes are obtained from the complex input objects by the application of simple extraction rules. The objective of this paper is to present the model to represent basic multi-partite graphs and the tool supporting it.","PeriodicalId":333389,"journal":{"name":"2012 Eighth Latin American Web Congress","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124926956","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The model is composed by an offline and an online module. In the offline module, the web sessions are preprocessed and represented in a vector space model using the frequency of the URLs, and after are grouped based on similarity measure using the Bisecting K-Means clustering algorithm. In the online module, each cluster found is represented by association rules, and the clusters are used for recommending web pages to the users. The article presents the procedures of selection and removal of entries in the web log, preprocessing of web sessions, and the strategies used for the web page recommendation. Supervised validation was applied to the model, selecting a group of web sessions as queries to the system, and asking users to answer a survey on the output.","PeriodicalId":333389,"journal":{"name":"2012 Eighth Latin American Web Congress","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122955051","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main one being that we do not really know what the user is doing - is s/he looking at the screen or doing something else? We have conducted an Eye-Tracking study to analyze user behavior when searching the web and looking for specific information on results and content pages. The goal is to obtain more precise information about the search strategy of the user. Which characteristics make the difference between successful and unsuccessful searches? This research presents results focusing on the number of formulated queries by session, documents clicked, the fixation durations on the documents, and the distribution of the attention in the different areas of the screen, among other aspects.","PeriodicalId":333389,"journal":{"name":"2012 Eighth Latin American Web Congress","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122853387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We study the following parameters: grey scales for the font and the background, colors combinations, font size, column width and spacing of characters, lines and paragraphs. We used eye tracking to measure the reading performance of 92 participants, and questionnaires to collect their preferences. The study shows correlations on larger contrast and sizes, but there is no concluding evidence for the other parameters. Based on our results, we propose a set of text customization guidelines for reading text on screen combining the results of both kind of data.","PeriodicalId":333389,"journal":{"name":"2012 Eighth Latin American Web Congress","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131118455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Micro-blogging services, such as Twitter, allow users to express themselves, share their emotions and discuss their daily life affairs in real-time, covering a variety of different points of view and opinions, including political and event-related topics such as immigration, economic issues, tax policy or election campaigns. On the other hand, traditional methods tracking public opinion still heavily rely upon opinion polls, which are usually limited to small sample sizes and can incur in significant costs in terms of time and money. In this paper, we leverage state-of-the-art techniques of sentiment analysis for real-time political emotion tracking. In particular, we analyze mentions of personal names of 18 presidents in Latin America, and measure each political figure's effect in the emotions reflected on the social web.","PeriodicalId":333389,"journal":{"name":"2012 Eighth Latin American Web Congress","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123664820","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We also observe a significant increase in the number of fraud cases, resulting in billions of dollars losses each year worldwide. Therefore it is important and necessary to developed and apply techniques that can assist in fraud detection, which motivates our research. This work aims to apply and evaluate computational intelligence techniques to identify fraud in electronic transactions, more specifically in credit card operations. In order to evaluate the techniques, we define a concept of economic efficiency and apply them in a actual dataset of the most popular Brazilian electronic payment service. Our results show good performance in fraud detection, presenting gains up to 43 percent compared to the actual scenario of the company.","PeriodicalId":333389,"journal":{"name":"2012 Eighth Latin American Web Congress","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115595710","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The focus of our proposal is to establish whether a time series is appropriate or not for generating a reliable predictive model. We analyze time series obtained from Twitter messages related to the 2008 U.S. elections using ARMA/ARIMA and GARCH models. The first models are used in order to assess the conditional mean of the process and the second ones to assess the conditional variance or volatility. The main argument we discuss is that opinion time series that exhibit volatility should not be used for long-term forecasting purposes. We present an in-depth analysis of the statistical properties of these time series. Our experiments show that these time series are not fit for predicting future opinion trends. Due to the fact that researchers have not provided enough evidence to support the alleged predictive power of opinion time series, we discuss how more rigorous validation of predictive models generated from time series could benefit the opinion mining field.","PeriodicalId":333389,"journal":{"name":"2012 Eighth Latin American Web Congress","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131259858","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
