In order to suppress ICI in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM)systems, the techniques of forward error correction (FEC)and nonlinear detection of data are usually employed, requiring low coding rates and high decoding computational complexity. In this paper, different configurations for reception of OFDM signals with frequency dispersion, discrete Fourier transform-spread-OFDM (DFTS-OFDM)are explored including FEC techniques and linear/nonlinear detection. The results show that the use of turbo encoding and non-linear detection of ordered successive interference cancellation (OSIC)in the DFTS-OFDM system offers significant gains in terms of performance when compared to conventional OFDM receivers, obtaining a performance in terms of bit error rate (BER)of 10−4 with a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)close to 7 dB over doubly selective channel with 1 kHz Doppler spread. Nowadays, there exist many algorithms to estimate the channel under this approach. The most popular algorithms belong to the greedy algorithms category. OMP is one of the most useful algorithms due its low computational complexity and good performance. However, the accuracy in this algorithm depends directly on the stopping condition. Currently, there exist many works which try to tackle this problem developing a stopping condition by a threshold. On the other hand, some others works assume this condition known, however in a real scenario it is not true. VLC technology has many useful applications, including smart lighting, high speed data link, communication in hazardous environments, vehicular communications, underwater communications, location based services, etc. Although there is a growing interest on VLC applications, there is still a lack of proper VLC channel models. In this paper, we present a comprehensive survey of modeling techniques for visible light communications with a focus on indoor wireless optical channels. This simplification was not favorable before, due to the limitations in dimensionality, processing time, computational resources, among others. Working with multispectral remote sensing (RS) images, in an artificial neural network (NN) was quite complex. Due the methods used required millions of processes that took a long time to be executed and produce competitive results compared with the state of the art (SoA). Deep learning (DL) strategies have been applied to alleviate these limitations and have greatly improved the use of neural networks. Therefore, this paper presents the analysis of DL-NNs to perform semantic segmentation of multispectral RS images. Images are captured by the constellation of satellites Sentinel-2 from the European Space Agency. The objective of this research is to classify each pixel of a scene into five categories: 1-vegetation, 2-soil, 3-water, 4-clouds and 5-cloud shadows. The selection of spectral bands for the formation of input datasets for segmentation of these classes is very important. The spectral signatures of each material aid to discern among several classes. However, video applications are computationally demanding tasks that can drain device battery. Since, battery capacity has not evolved at the same rate as digital electronics, is necessary to work into achieve the same tasks with less complex algorithms. The most demanding task within the video coding process is Motion Estimation and Compensation (ME/MC). Therefore, the present work aims the reduction of calls to the ME/MC procedure by introducing a power-aware scheme using approximate computing. The call reduction is achieve by introducing a simple motion detection algorithm in combination with a pel decimation technique. The reduction in calls achieves a cutback in power consumption as well as a speed-up in the coding process. The average power reduction is 91.60% while the average speed-up is 65.89% in MPEG-4. Modulation schemes with these characteristics often require a maximum likelihood sequence estimator (MLSE)implemented by means of Viterbi Algorithm (VA). The main drawback of VA is complexity implementation due to the filter bank needed to calculate the metrics, the large number of states required to describe the signal and the employment of squaring and multinpication operations in calculating metric cost. This paper discusses alternative metrics for VA in GFSK schemes that avoids the use of multiplication and squaring operations, achieving a reduction in implementation complexity. For these applications, the IEEE-754 half-precision arithmetic is becoming a relevant option for low-power, low-computational cost designs. This article presents a half-precision floating-point multiplier. It is implemented on 130 nm CMOS ASIC technology. The proposed framework uses Matlab, Vivado HLS, and PetaLinux OS for the design, parallelization, implementation, and verification of the algorithms. This framework enables the tests for multiple variations of the architecture on the different FPGAs families, allowing to explore several parallelization directives, such as pipeline, unrolling, partitioning, and mixed techniques.
