However, the high freezing point limit practical applications. In electrolytes, the design of ion pairs can effectively improve the charge transport properties, while its effect on low-temperature performance is neglected. Here, we acquired the lithium trifluoromethanesulfonate (LiOTf)-based aqueous electrolytes with different ion pair structures. Using advanced characterization and simulation, it was revealed that the 10 m LiOTf electrolyte-enriched separated solvated ion pairs (SSIPs) show excellent ultralow-temperature stability. The changes in energy storage behavior under different temperature were discussed, which revealed that SSIPs contribute to efficient adsorption at low temperatures. The supercapacitor with 10 m LiOTf reached high energy density of 34.67 Wh/kg at −40 °C and maintained long cycle stability at −70 °C. Our work suggests a strategy for the rational design of electrolytes that could enable next-generation ultralow-temperature electrochemical storage systems.","PeriodicalId":332612,"journal":{"name":"Energy Material Advances","volume":"7 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-08-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://spj.science.org/doi/pdf/10.34133/energymatadv.0189","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147913025","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, commercial carbonate electrolytes are challenging to apply in LMBs because of the narrow operating temperature range (−20 to 50 °C). Carboxylate solvents have the advantages of low viscosity and low freezing point and perform well at low temperatures. However, their poor thermal stability limits their application at high temperatures. This work added a dinitrile solvent to the carboxylate electrolyte to expand its liquid range and improve its electrochemical stability. In addition, the coordination of molecules in the first solvated layer is carefully controlled to promote many anions entering the solvated layer, contributing to forming a robust inorganic solid electrolyte interface film. Because of the addition of the dinitrile solvent, the electrolyte enables Li/NCM811 cells to achieve a capacity release of 149.3 mAh/g at −40 °C. After 200 cycles at 80 °C, the capacity retention rate of Li/LFP cells is 94.31%. Even in ultra-thin lithium metal cells (17 μm), it can be stable for more than 100 cycles. This opens up new opportunities for developing electrolytes suitable for high-performance and all-weather LMBs.","PeriodicalId":332612,"journal":{"name":"Energy Material Advances","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://spj.science.org/doi/pdf/10.34133/energymatadv.0181","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147333975","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Herein, a series of M/TiO 2 (M = Cu, Co, Ni) catalysts were developed for photothermal CO 2 reduction with bioethanol, and the synergistic mechanism between photocatalysis and thermocatalysis was deeply investigated. Systematic characteristics and photothermal ethanol dry reforming (EDR) testing results revealed the relevancy between catalytic behavior and microstructure properties of TiO 2 -supported catalysts. Notably, the Ni/TiO 2 catalyst displayed superior catalytic behavior than Cu/TiO 2 and Co/TiO 2 counterparts, which mainly attributed to their abundant oxygen vacancies and stronger Ni–TiO 2 interaction. In addition, both the narrower band gap and higher light absorption ability directly promoted the Ni/TiO 2 catalyst possessing outstanding ethanol conversion (94.5%) and controllable H 2 /CO ratio (0.65) at 450 °C. Furthermore, the relatively less activation energy also determined that the Ni/TiO 2 sample possessed the fastest kinetic progression in the EDR process. Therefore, the Ni/TiO 2 catalyst exhibited the better photothermal catalytic activity compared with other 2 samples. We anticipate that photothermal synergy would offer good technical guidance to promote the conversion and utilization of greenhouse gas CO 2 under relatively low temperature environment.","PeriodicalId":332612,"journal":{"name":"Energy Material Advances","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"https://spj.science.org/doi/pdf/10.34133/energymatadv.0205","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147331954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, its poor thermal conductivity, liquid leakage, and inadequate solar absorption have limited its commercial application in thermal management and solar energy utilization. To address these limitations, polydopamine (PDA) was first employed to modify diatomite (DT) to enable uniform deposition of metal Cu nanoparticles on its surface to construct as a DT/PDA/Cu supporting material. Then, the obtained supporting material was used to encapsulate PCM, and the prepared shape-stabilized PCM (SSPCM) with 50 wt.% PW exhibited no leakage, a prominent solar–thermal conversion ability, and a high thermal conductivity. The PW/DT/PDA/Cu SSPCM demonstrated a thermal conductivity of 1.115 W·m −1 ·K −1 , which was up to 3.83 times larger than that of pure PW, and a pronounced photothermal conversion efficiency of 88.27%. The substantial performance enhancement can be attributed to the PDA modification-driven strong in situ and uniform deposition of Cu nanoparticles on the surface of DT. Furthermore, the SSPCM was also capable of generating a steady current of 39.3 mA. The study results provide an efficient method for the multiple energy conversion application of SSPCMs.","PeriodicalId":332612,"journal":{"name":"Energy Material Advances","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147332657","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"OA","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These vacancies improve catalytic activity by increasing active sites and enhancing charge-transfer capacity. The CoO X /Co 9 S 8 @NC catalyst demonstrates outstanding ORR and OER bifunctional activity (Δ E = 0.63 V) and HER performance comparable to noble metal catalysts. Liquid zinc-air batteries exhibited superior cycling stability (2,520 cycles at 2 mA/cm 2 ).
