This offers the possibility for the performance indicators measurements analysis, which helps define the major objectives of the organization, on different terms and main ways of achieving them, together with the resources allocated to achieve a competitive advantage in the field. The performance indicators can be strategic, managerial and operational, measuring three components - business, profitability and productivity. The results monitor the activities performed and costs incurred, constituting the standard measure that allows to examine and highlight strategies for sustainability objectives achievement. The paper presents a series of personal observations and comments regarding performance indicators - as a result of its author’s professional experience - and leads to the conclusion that the options for a performance-oriented shipyard strategy should be developed based on its own business characteristics through the following: agresive marketing – low costs; strategic alliance with the equipment suppliers - differentiating services; orientation towards a particular ships market segment – focusing.","PeriodicalId":33188,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Dunarea de Jos University of Galati Fascicle XI Shipbuilding","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69960502","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study focused on the yield strength, as the available literary sources indicate that in terms of structural strength and design assessment this particular aspect is the most essential property of steel used for ship structures, and at the same time its values are characterized by the highest variability. Detailed statistical tests were performed on nearly 2,200 plates. The results of these analyses suggested that for the sample examined herein the mean yield strength value was 308.3 MPa, the standard deviation was 25.24 MPa, the coefficient of variation was 0.0819 (8.19%), the (average) difference bias was 73.3 MPa and the (average) ratio bias was 1.31. It has been shown that both lognormal distribution LN(5.7276, 0.0817) and normal distribution N(308.2589, 25.2444) provide an adequate representation of normal strength hull structural steel plates .","PeriodicalId":33188,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Dunarea de Jos University of Galati Fascicle XI Shipbuilding","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69959873","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the past, the experimental results were a good bench-mark for predicting ship water resistance, but due to the evolution of the technol-ogy, mathematical flow patterns can be solved by applying the RANS equations. The towing test results can by apply for a low Froude number, but for a high Froude number, all phenomena that appear along the simulation aren’t relevant because the scale effects can provide a realist vision of the phenomena for a real ship (scale 1:1). Hence, this study presents methods of improving the mesh quality by making comparisons with the experimental tests, and also presents the limit of the towing test results.","PeriodicalId":33188,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Dunarea de Jos University of Galati Fascicle XI Shipbuilding","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69960131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The theoretical estimation was performed on the basis of Sahoo method, typical for the round bilge catamarans with high speed. Experimental model tests were developed in the Towing Tank of “Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati, both with the demihull and the full catamaran, with blocked sinkage and trim, to study the influence of the hulls interference. Also, catamaran model tests with free trim were realized. In order to transpose the model results at full scale, the ITTC 1957 method was applied. The conclusions reveal significant differences between the theoretical and experimental results.","PeriodicalId":33188,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Dunarea de Jos University of Galati Fascicle XI Shipbuilding","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69959260","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the shipbuilding industry, the joining of plates in such a way as to ensure higher productivity is very important, but the industry has been facing the problem of deformation for seven decades. The shipbuilding industry is trying to control this problem, but thin plates bring non-linear problems in the structure, especially in the bulkhead of the structure that leads to more deformation due to small members of the profiles. This problem occurs in the construction of yachts because clients need good outlook of the ship. To control this problem the computational analysis is the more productive method than other to solve this deformation problem. The thermal elastic plastic FEM method is used to analyse the thermal and mechanical problems. This analysis confirmed that this TEP – Finite Element Method is applicable for the control of deformation in the thin plate.","PeriodicalId":33188,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Dunarea de Jos University of Galati Fascicle XI Shipbuilding","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69959369","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A practical approach is based on the global strength criteria evaluation by equivalent beam barge model and equivalent rules waves, with several heading angle cases. There are considered the Danube river navigation conditions and eventually a costal route, too. The barge is considered with three loading cases and the numerical analyses are done by P_QSW eigen program. The numerical results, hull beam sectional efforts, are evaluated by shipbuilding rules global strength criteria and the allowed operation conditions are obtained.","PeriodicalId":33188,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Dunarea de Jos University of Galati Fascicle XI Shipbuilding","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69959249","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, the Nordic countries (Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, England, Norway) use the wind as a source of electricity generation. Thus, in the North Sea of the European continent, \"windmills\" appeared, which, through the generators, are coupled to a system of pale energy production. These complex installations are installed in large winds with strong winds that produce waves with high heights and short periods. Vessels that service these complicated installations must respond to safe sailing requirements for maintenance personnel and transported equipment. Since classical ships do not exactly fit these requirements, they look for forms of hulls that give good behavior to such large ones. In the paper, the Trimaran type ship is approached, using the CFD numerical methods, the shape of the bodies as well as the distance between the bodies so that the ship's behavior meets the safety requirements of the offshore installation.","PeriodicalId":33188,"journal":{"name":"Annals of Dunarea de Jos University of Galati Fascicle XI Shipbuilding","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"69959744","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
