One key realization during the pandemic is that tourism development and activities need to be planned and carried out with the local community in the picture, especially those in the suburbs and rural areas. Community members are more than just beneficiaries of tourism. Their voices about local issues and knowledge about culture and society can be invaluable to destination management, and thus cannot be dismissed or overlooked. Involving the local community in every stage of tourism planning will ensure that tourism development and rebuilding in the wake of COVID-19 can be administered in a more sustainable manner. This paper offers our views about managing a tourism-laden destination in the suburbs with the focus on the community. We summarize our views in six phases. These phases are (1) communication with the community leaders and members, (2) alliance with the local authorities and relevant agencies, (3) elderly consultation, (4) women empowerment, (5) school engagement, and (6) communal programs and activities. A Community Orientation Framework (COF) is subsequently proposed, highlighting the interplays between partnership, people, platforms, and process to realize responsible tourism in the local context.","PeriodicalId":331687,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Responsible Tourism Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130578890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cycling is a popular tourism pursuit in Japan and in the pandemic era, is acknowledged to be a COVID-secure activity. In response to, and drawing from the theory of planned behaviour, examining the relationship between the COVID-secure perspective and the intention to perform tours via cycling mobilities in Japan is the underlying aim of this exploratory study. Further, analyses are informed by an online survey approach and contextualised with hierarchical multiple regression analyses. Findings emphasise that COVID-secure perspective is negatively associated with intention to tour as part of everyday cycling mobilities, whereas attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioural control show positive association. This has implications for everyday cycling mobilities and cycle tourism. COVID-related advice should be developed and disseminated not only to cycling enthusiasts but also to the general public in order to emphasise and reinforce the COVID-secure nature of this mode of tourism. Consequently, the rise in popularity of everyday cycling mobilities and touring, sounds a clarion call to ensure that any ensuing expansion pays heed to responsible tourism concerns.","PeriodicalId":331687,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Responsible Tourism Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116901726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Concurrently, responsible tourism began receiving more attention from academics and practitioners began implementing the principles of responsible tourism within organizations. No research has been conducted on the intersection of mountain biking and responsible tourism. This study examines the potential role mountain biking may play as a responsible form of tourism and in the development of responsible tourism destinations. In particular, this study explores some of the principles of responsible tourism and applies them to the results from a tourism impact study for the Super8 Mountain Bike (MTB) Festival held in Taichung, Taiwan in 2020. Limitations to this study and areas of future research are highlighted, while implications for practitioners are also shared.","PeriodicalId":331687,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Responsible Tourism Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125598827","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The term was made extremely popular before and during the 2016 U.S elections where sensationalist news reporting, often unverified, were disseminated by political actors in their bid to secure support towards their campaigns. In brief, fake news refers to the reporting of articles that has been manipulated so that information is re-presented in a manner determined by a sender. For this reason, interest has been piqued to mitigate the effects of fake news given the ease of publicizing and disseminating user-generated contents digitally, especially so in the realm of social media. However, it has been conceded that fake news has hardly been addressed in tourism academic scholarship. This is somewhat surprising, given that online information search and dissemination is a core feature of a technologically mediated tourism industry, with recent instances of fake online reviews emerging. This project will explore the current scope of fake news in tourism, propose future areas of investigation, and discuss theoretical and practical implications for responsible tourism management.","PeriodicalId":331687,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Responsible Tourism Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114843571","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The bibliometric analysis of Web of Science database revealed that the number of publications related to museum was in an increasing trend and majority of the studies focusing on museums are publications from and within the context of the People’s Republic of China. The visualization of similarities viewer software analysis showed that China is the most relevant keyword with the highest occurrence. It further revealed that museums are understudied in Southeast Asia. Basing on the number of museums and their cultural offerings in Southeast Asia, museum visitors are foreseen as a potential market for heritage tourism development. While the pandemic forced the closure of a number of museums globally, the industry rebounded quickly by establishing a digital presence, thereby offering new opportunities for those in the heritage tourism industry.","PeriodicalId":331687,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Responsible Tourism Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120807405","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It explains the critical role of this behaviour in two parts (themes and behaviours), highlighting the lack of adequate research to date on this concept and the role of the social dimensions in achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The dimensions from previous works (academic and non-academic) attempting to articulate sustainable tourist behaviour from a social perspective are summarised and classified. A measurement framework of 19 dimensions of socially sustainable tourist behaviour is proposed. It is argued that the extant literature fails to comprehensively conceptualise and measure socially sustainable tourist behaviour, and that a new framework with an associated measurement scale is needed.","PeriodicalId":331687,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Responsible Tourism Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114552197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although the importance of sustainable tourism is undeniable, it is a concept or catchphrase which is often found value-laden, ambiguous or onerous. One main reason is because the local issues and priorities in a destination or region are more than often dissimilar to another. While the discourse on sustainable development in tourism continues largely for good cause, the importance of responsibility begins to emerge. Responsible Tourism is an important and urgent call for action, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis. As tourism development and recovery is essential to the economy of developing region, managing priorities and harnessing partnership between stakeholders in a responsible manner become increasingly significant. As scholars and residents in Southeast Asia, our viewpoints offer some insights about responsible tourism in this region. In addition, a qualitative approach via online survey was administered to elicit the perceptions of tourism academics, practitioners and frequent travellers towards responsible tourism. A framework was subsequently proposed to articulate what responsible tourism in the Southeast Asian context. Implications of the study are discussed.","PeriodicalId":331687,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Responsible Tourism Management","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125124151","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
