Este trabalho se baseia nessa perspectiva e considera como os conceitos de sincronia e diacronia, propostos por Ferdinand de Saussure, se relacionam a pratica tradutoria. Enquanto a leitura estruturalista de Saussure muitas vezes defendeu a dissociacao completa entre essas duas nocoes, a traducao evidencia que a diacronia e a sincronia se relacionam intima e mutuamente. Portanto, o fenomeno tradutorio se torna um modo de apontar para a necessidade de, em certos casos, considerar a sincronia e a diacronia conjuntamente. Thinking about translation with Saussure: another consideration of synchrony and diachrony Translation is an activity that sometimes implies matters relating to time, since the text to be translated may originate in a moment previous to the act of translation. This perspective is the basis for this study, which considers how the concepts of synchrony and diachrony, proposed by Ferdinand de Saussure, relate to the practice of translation. While the structuralist interpretation of Saussure often advocated a complete dissociation between these two notions, translation seems to indicate that diachrony and synchrony are closely and mutually related. Therefore, the translation phenomenon becomes a way of indicating that there is a need to take synchrony and diachrony into account jointly in some cases. Keywords: Translation. Diachrony. Synchrony. No entanto, um fato minimamente curioso e o da ausencia de uma discussao sobre as ideias de Breal na teorizacao de Saussure. Partindo desse pressuposto, o presente trabalho, de natureza teorica, tem o objetivo de discutir alguns aspectos da reflexao desses autores acerca do sentido , com o intuito de problematizarmos o \"silencio\" saussuriano em relacao as ideias do mestre frances. Para abordarmos a teorizacao saussuriana, partiremos de sua obra postuma, o Curso de linguistica geral , de 1916, e dos manuscritos reunidos e publicados, em 2002, por Simon Bouquet e Rudolf Engler nos Escritos de linguistica geral ; ja a perspectiva brealiana sera abordada a partir de seu Ensaio de semântica , publicado em 1897. Parece-nos que o estatuto necessariamente sincronico do signo , proposto por Saussure a partir da oposicao sincronia / diacronia , desautoriza a possibilidade de uma abordagem historica do sentido, tal como propos Breal. Saussure, Breal and the issue of the meaning It is known that Ferdinand de Saussure was a contemporary of Michel Breal. However, a minimally curious fact is the absence of a discussion of Breal's ideas in Saussure's theorizing. Based on this assumption, the present work, of a theoretical nature, has the objective of discussing some aspects of the reflection of these authors about the meaning, in order to problematize the saussurian \"silence\" in relation to the french master ideas. In order to approach Saussurian theorization, we will start with his posthumous work, the General Linguistics Course of 1916, and the manuscripts collected and published in 2002 by Simon Bouquet and Rudolf Engler in the Writings in General Linguistics ; the brealian perspective will be approached from his Semantic Essay , published in 1897. It seems to us that the necessarily synchronic status of the sign, proposed by Saussure from the synchrony/diacrony opposition, deters the possibility of a historical approach to meaning, as Breal proposed. Essa leitura demonstrara como a nocao de relacao e tratada, na reflexao de Paul, de maneira secundaria, principalmente, em funcao do entendimento da mudanca, diferentemente do que acontece na reflexao saussuriana, na qual ela ocupa lugar de destaque. Para tanto, procederemos com uma revisao bibliografica da obra Principios Fundamentais da Historia da Lingua de Hermann Paul, dando enfase as passagens em que a nocao de relacao e mobilizada por ele e, oportunamente, estabeleceremos uma comparacao com a proposta teorica saussuriana que se apresenta na edicao do Curso de Linguistica Geral . Re-establishing the fundamental relations: from historical linguistics to modern linguistics In this paper, we present an analysis of the notion of relation at theoretical reflection of the neogrammarian Hermann Paul in comparison with the theoretical elaboration of Ferdinand de Saussure. This analysis will show how the notion of relation is treated, in Paul's reflection, in a secondary way, mainly for the understanding of change, unlike what happens in Saussurian reflection, in which it occupies a prominent place. Therefore, we will proceed with a bibliographical revision of Fundamental Principles of the History of the Language by Hermann Paul emphasizing passages in which the notion of relation is mobilized by him and, timely, we will establish a comparison with the theoretical Saussurian proposal that appears in the edition of the Course in General Linguistics . {"title":"A problemática acerca da edição das notas saussurianas: um livro sem fim nem começo ou um livro de areia a la Borges?","authors":"A. A partir do estudo comparativo das notas de Ferdinand de Saussure publicadas em edicoes diferentes, como por exemplo, as notas editadas por Robert Godel e publicadas na revista Cahiers (1954), as notas editadas por Simon Bouquet e Rudolf Engler (2002) e tambem as notas editadas por Rene Amacker (2011), sustentamos que cada edicao publicada constitui-se como um livro de areia , no sentido poetico e metaforico atribuido por Borges. Cada uma dessas publicacoes de notas manuscritas saussurianas apresenta uma ordem que lhe e propria, atribuindo ao texto uma linearidade singular. Como sabemos, apenas uma pequena parte dos manuscritos saussurianos foi editada e publicada e, mesmo essa pequena parte desdobra-se em sucessivas (re-)edicoes, cada qual dando um novo/outro (re-)arranjo, o que nos faz refletir acerca da ordem e da (im)possivel linearidade das notas saussurianas no tocante aos criterios dados pelos seus editores. The problem concerning the edition of Saussurean notes: a book with no end nor beginning, or a book of sand in the manner of Borges? The present article develops a reflection on the complex process of editing the saussurian manuscripts. From the comparative study of Ferdinand de Saussure's notes published in different editions, for example, the notes edited by Robert Godel and published in the Cahiers (1954) journal, the notes edited by Simon Bouquet and Rudolf Engler (SAUSSURE, 2002) and the notes edited by Rene Amacker (2011), we maintain that each edition published is a book of sand, in the poetic and metaphorical sense attributed by Borges. Each one of these publications of saussurian handwritten notes presents an order that is its own, assigning to the text a singular linearity. As we know, only a small part of the Saussurian manuscripts has been edited and published, and even this small part unfolds in successive (re-) editions, each giving a new/another (re-)arrangement, which makes us reflect on of the order and (im)possible linearity of the Saussurian notes in relation to the criteria given by its editors. Atraves desses conceitos, o fenomeno linguistico apresenta-se de forma muito peculiar na obra do linguista, pois trata-se de um fenomeno extremamente fluido e mutavel no espaco, no tempo e nas comunidades falantes. Finalmente, mostro como boa parte do interesse de Saussure, e do desafio da atividade do linguista para ele, esta em desenvolver um instrumental conceitual –e um entendimento filosofico – que o habilite a momentaneamente capturar os fluxos da lingua fugidia e multipla para descreve-la a partir de suas caracteristicas imanentes. The Saussurean linguistics and the multiplicity of languages This work approaches saussurean science in both a historical and philosophical way so as to offer a reading of Ferdinand de Saussure’s oeuvre which highlights the conceptions of langue and language held by the author, which are informed by concepts not so often emphasized in Saussurean studies, analogy and virtual specially. Through these concepts the linguistic phenomenon presents itself in a very unique form in Saussure’s work, because it is an extremely fluid phenomenon that changes in space, in time and in the speech communities. Finally, I show how a considerable part of Saussure’s interest, and for him the challenge in the linguist’s work, lies in developing the conceptual instruments – and the philosophical understanding – which renders them capable of momentarily capturing the flowing of the fleeting and multiple langue in order to describe it from its immanent characteristics.  Keywords: Ferdinand de Saussure. A investigacao levada a cabo permite derivar, da obra fundadora da Linguistica moderna, diversas nocoes de escrita , cuja elaboracao vai a par com a das nocoes de linguagem , lingua e fala , o que possibilita compreender a escrita como um contraponto necessario ao entendimento destas e, por conseguinte, do objeto da ciencia da lingua. The place of writing in Saussurean reflection on Linguistics’ object The present article aims to answer the following questions: 1) What notions of writing can be derived from the Saussurean reflection on the object of Linguistics? 2) What is the place that writing takes in the delimitation of the object of the science of language in the Course of General Linguistics? Therefore, the study investigates the relations between writing and the matter of Linguistics, the writing and the object of Linguistics and the place of writing in the frontier zone between the Linguistics of language and the Linguistics of speech and the elements that are both internal and external to language. The undertaken research allows us to derive, from the founding work of modern Linguistics, several notions of writing, whose elaboration goes hand in hand with the notions of language, langue and parole, which therefore enable us to comprehend writing as a necessary counterpoint to the understanding of these notions and, consequently, of the object of the science of language.
