This paper was a result of a panel discussion at the 2021 International Conference on Social and Education Sciences (IConSES) in Chicago, IL. The format took a reflective view on the past course, and how the doctoral students made changes in their ideas about NOS and their teaching practices. Reflections were made across themes that included Early ideas about NOS, our orientations to teaching about NOS, the world outside our window, and teaching NOS, and teaching NOS, past, present and future. Recommendations are made for beginning NOS instruction as early as kindergarten and embedding it in science content throughout all science education, making it a part of instruction similar to how scientific practices are similar to instruction.","PeriodicalId":331457,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in Education","volume":"1996 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116681581","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this systematic review of published literature was to trace the history of university teaching and examine the effects of the COVID 19 pandemic on traditional teaching. Systematic review started with 720 articles and ended with the inclusion of 136 articles based on bibliometric search process. Important understandings generated are that educational methods are constantly evolving as what the ruling society values changes and when new technologies that can be used for teaching are invented. Conclusions were that this deadly pandemic overturned the traditional offline teaching and learning process and facilitated the introduction of emergency online educational platforms to be used for university teaching and student learning.","PeriodicalId":331457,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in Education","volume":"170 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121276490","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The increasing rate of low academic achievement and failures in science subjects in schools may significantly impact both individual students whose target was to proceed with tertiary education and seek a lifetime opportunity. However, all of these aims may be affected by the unimpressive performance of students in science subjects. The aim of this study was to describe the experiences of science teachers who encountered problems and challenges in teaching non–science subjects. The study utilized the qualitative phenomenological design with two data gathering techniques, the in-depth interview and focus group discussion. There were 14 participants in this study who were science teachers from secondary schools in Montevista district, Davao de Oro Division, Mindanao, Philippines. Data triangulation was addressed through generating data from various sources to gain a fuller perspective of the study. There (3) essential themes were generated on the experiences of teachers from teaching Non–science subjects. As to the result, the study further recommends on the revisitation on the hiring policy, plans and programs for teachers particularly the need for teacher’s alignment of subject as to what teachers’ specialization or subject field of expertise.","PeriodicalId":331457,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in Education","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114660933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Embedded in the nature of inclusive schooling and organized in a specific public secondary school in Victoria, Australia, this study explores the effectiveness of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) on English as an additional language (EAL) students’ online learning proficiency. The research findings indicate that in the discipline of EAL, with the assistance of multiple means of representation, expression and engagement as well as a range of information-communication technologies (ICTs), UDL has positive effects on students’ academic performance and can trigger their positive attitudes towards online learning experience. This sheds light on the feasibility of improving remote learning quality and promoting inclusive online schooling that engages every student via the implementation of UDL integrated with different assistive technologies, which can be summarized as that UDL is one of the possible solutions to online learning that affords ample opportunities or more precisely, technical promises for the implementation of UDL.","PeriodicalId":331457,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in Education","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124336495","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, this study investigated teachers’ and learners’ perspectives on online education in relation to its benefits, challenges and strategies during and after COVID-19 in higher education of Nepal. To achieve this objective, online survey research design was employed. Survey questionnaire were used in the study to determine the perspectives of 280 teachers and students from five universities of Nepal. The results showed that the participants experienced online education beneficial primarily for promoting online research, connecting the practitioners to the global community and getting huge and authentic resource of knowledge though they have found time-management skills, more freedom to the teachers and learners, and reliable internet at workplace as the extreme challenges. The research also revealed time management skills, technological prepared and computer literate are the basic qualities for the practitioners who want to have online education. The participants suggested that ICT policy should be clear and courses should be developed accordingly. Only online mode of teaching and learning in the context of Nepal cannot be effective so the participants preferred blended learning. The findings of the research indicated that online education can be an alternative means of traditional education. Thus, if blended approach is implemented, the education process would be more effective and successful in the contexts like Nepal.","PeriodicalId":331457,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in Education","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134297291","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article seeks to contribute to minimize this issue, adopting as a strategy the use of active learning methodologies. Active methodologies already established in the literature were searched, which served as the basis for the construction this work. A questionnaire was also applied to EEL students to map their most common difficulties and specially to know the students perspective on the current situation of the discipline. From the results of the questionnaire we sought to interpret what were the main factors that contributed to the high failure rates of the discipline in the EEL. From this analysis a procedure was elaborated that united the concepts of the previously researched methodologies, which were more adequate to face the problems highlighted by the questionnaire, aiming to contribute appropriately to the improvement of the discipline learning.","PeriodicalId":331457,"journal":{"name":"International Journal on Studies in Education","volume":"85 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-02-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114264754","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
