It is believed that it affects male fertility because Andean men associate it with impotence and decreased fertilizing capacity. Studies done on rats fed mashua showed that there was a 45% decrease in the testosterone/dihydrotestosterone ratio. The effect of this plant on reproduction is related to its content of isothiocyanates, compounds that bind covalently to proteins, which may be directly or indirectly involved in the spermatogenic process. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the effect of the aqueous extract of \"mashua\" on spermatogenesis and reproductive physiology of mice. Methodology: tThe in vivo morphofunctional parameters of mouse sperm (spermatogram) were evaluated and the expression of: Cytochrome P450 17α-hydroxylase/17,20-lyase, protein that regulates acute steroidogenesis, Cyclin cyclin and Pprotamine, related to spermatogenesis, was quantified. Results: The results indicated that Aat 7, 14 and 21 days of dosing, the sperm count is affected, as well as their progressive motility (PM);, on the other hand, a delay in their maturation was observed. Regarding gene expression, no significant differences were found between the expression of the two genes studied (cCytochrome P450 17α-hydroxylase/17,20-lyase, cCyclin), Conclusion: Tthe effect of \"mashua \" does not occur at the level of the expression of the genes involved in spermatogenesis, but at the level of its functions as a protein.","PeriodicalId":33139,"journal":{"name":"Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136277182","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: we provide to mice a single dose of lead nitrate (LN) of 50mg/kg body weight. Mice were euthanized seven days post-injection with the aim of evaluating sperm to come out from the seminiferous tubules and are in transit through the epididymis. Also the TUNEL test was done to evaluate the sperm DNA fragmentation. Results: The decrease in body weight in mice treated with LN (p <0.05), suggest a toxic systemic effect. However, we didn´t find an effect on the reproductive system because the weights of the testes, epididymis, prostate and seminal vesicles were not altered (p>0.05), in the same way physiological values such as sperm concentration and motility didn´t decrease with the treatment (p> 0.05). Transit and sperm maturation in the epididymis would not be affected by the LN, and because we did not observe increased sperm DNA fragmentation in the treated group (p>0.05), sperm protamination would be fulfilling its protective role on murine genetic material avoiding genotoxic damage by LN. Conclusion: The intraperitoneal administration of 50mg/kg/pc of lead nitrate (LN) for seven days does not cause systemic toxicity or effect on spermatogenesis in mice.","PeriodicalId":33139,"journal":{"name":"Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43146145","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At present there are conceptual confusions that make its promotion and transformative practice very difficult, in many universities it is confused with social projection, which reduces its transversal dimension. Objective: To analyze the scientific evidence related to university social responsibility in Latin America. Methods: Systematic review of the literature, between the months of August to December 2021; the search for articles was carried out in the databases: Scopus, Scielo, Doaj, Lilacs and Redalyc; the use of Descriptors in Health Sciences (DeCS) and the combination of the Boolean operators OR and AND were applied. Full texts in Spanish between the years 2015 and 2021 were considered. Results: 508 articles were obtained, which were submitted to the PRISMA methodology, selecting 20 articles, grouped into four categories according to the Social Responsibility Manual of the Úrsula Model: management, training, cognitive, and social participation. Conclusion: USR is an inalienable moral commitment, it is important in university management to promote sustainable development, with ethics and respect for human rights, the participation of committed actors is necessary, considering that it currently has a welfare and reductionist approach, scarce support, socialization and implementation and there is a need to unify criteria.","PeriodicalId":33139,"journal":{"name":"Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47643514","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Material and Methods: Observational, analytical, and prospective study. The study population is made up of 80 50-year-old users who attend the Ricardo Cruzado Rivarola hospital for Pap tests at the gynecology-obstetrics office and the sample is 67 users, selected by non-probabilistic sampling for convenience. Results: For the first analysis, in simple and multiple regression, it was found that women with high levels of knowledge had a 384% and 382% higher frequency of having ever undergone a PAP test compared to those with low levels of knowledge. Conclusions: The level of knowledge about the PAP has a relevant influence on having carried out a PAP; but also the women who had a high level were the ones who had the highest frequency of having done it. This added to the number of children; possibly because in the circles of women with children one of the topics to be discussed is about maternal health and within them the PAP.","PeriodicalId":33139,"journal":{"name":"Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Humana","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43512657","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
