Consideration of electromagnetic compatibility has become more important in electrical systems. Instead of conductors to appliances, measurements focused on distribution subcenters and feed cables, because of higher currents. In this study, four buildings were measured with different measuring techniques. Rooms that were considered interesting based on survey measurements, were also measured with five-point and mapping measurements. This is not completely satisfactory from an economic point of view. In this paper, first the problem statement is improved so as to become economically satisfactory, by introducing possible corrective load curtailments after contingency and their expected costs. Then a completely new algorithm is proposed in order to get the optimum directly, i.e. in a single computation, without any time consuming initial set up step. Numerical tests illustrate the economic meaning of that new statement and the validity of the proposed algorithm. These embedded generators, depending on operating characteristics and location, can significantly affect the voltage profile, fault level and subsequently the optimum protection settings of the networks. Large embedded generators in the MW range could, however, have potential to support voltage profile besides providing peak lopping and deferring network reinforcement. This paper describes a case study involving Northern Ireland's 11 kV distribution network and demonstrates the use of an embedded generation scheme in deferring network reinforcement and providing assistance during the re-supply of the network. The effects of various excitation controllers of the scheme on the network voltage profile are presented. Being a very complicated combinatorial optimization problem, unit commitment is very difficult to solve, especially, for large-scale power system with network constraints. We have proposed a heuristic algorithm based on the average full load cost without network constraints. In this study, we propose a solution of unit commitment problem with network constraints using combination of heuristic algorithm and OPF. The proposed algorithm has been applied to the IEEE 118 test system with 36 generators over a 24-h period. In this paper, the tuning criteria are extended to take into account the instabilities due to the reaction between the excitation and PSS, as well as the interaction between multi-PSSs. The analytical tool of sensitivity has been exploited for the PSS tuning and the settings are optimal if the sensitivity coefficient is approaching zero. The design criteria of a single PSS are to maximize the interarea mode whilst keeping a constant gain margin for the PSS-excitation instability. For this purpose it must provide some system services and, primarily, an adequate amount of power for spinning reserve and of power and energy for balancing operations (nonspinning and replacement reserve). The number of sessions of the day-of spot market, when present, is strongly related to the power and energy for balancing operations and, consequently, to the real time market. In fact, after a load-frequency control process, the spinning reserve power margin must be restored in order to guarantee the assigned availability to the system; this is obtained by using the margins for balancing operations; this type of reserve can be restored only when the nearest session of day-of spot market becomes active. For this reason, the more frequent the day-of spot market is, the less there is the need for balancing reserve. The evaluation of the reserve can be carried out using probabilistic techniques; in this paper a simulation method, based on Monte Carlo technique, is described and a case study regarding a complex generating system is shown.","PeriodicalId":330989,"journal":{"name":"PowerCon 2000. 2000 International Conference on Power System Technology. According to the compensation objectives, a direct method, based on the power balance concept is used and compared to the standard pq algorithm. It allows to impose systematically sinusoidal mains currents in phase with the balanced symmetrical positive sequence system of the supply voltages in spite of mains or load asymmetries. In this paper, the authors use the idea of using digital filters to analyze and compute the frequencies of the harmonics. The work has been done by using the filter algorithms to filter a sample of the input signal and pass it through a band pass filter related to harmonics frequencies as a fraction of the fundamental frequency. In this way, one can track the changes in harmonic distortion. However, the term \"premium power\" often elicits unrealistic expectations from those customers. To accurately quantify premium power, utilities must define a baseline for grid power so that customers will have a clear idea of what is expected from \"normal\" grid power. This paper provides in-depth analysis of the technical, economic, and regulatory issues that need to be resolved in order to make premium power services a viable option for energy providers of the 21/sup st/ century. Power quality indices suitable for defining base-level power are addressed, numerical values for these indices to define \"basic power\" are quantified based on power quality benchmarking that has been conducted in several regions around the world, and the impact of local regulatory issues on offering premium power services are analyzed.
