By examining the local responses from two destinations in China with similar attractions and connecting their response features with the TALC model, the authors designate the two destinations studied as at consolidation and development stages, respectively. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of the features of destination development at various stages and highlights the importance of local responses as a key indicator that should be addressed in destination planning and management.","PeriodicalId":330902,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Tourism Sciences","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115665157","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Passengers are more sophisticated these days and airport managers need to be better equipped to understand and meet their demands. The aim of this paper is to identify attributes associated with Incheon International Airport (ICN) as found in passengers’ online comments. Another aim is to explore how these comments relate to Seoul, as a smart city destination. Passenger comments were sampled using Google Reviews and a content analysis was implemented to build a conceptual model of the airport and destination attributes. Results show that some attributes are unique to Incheon Airport. Also, some same attributes refer to Seoul as a smart city, a title given to Seoul by Forbes along with other major cities in the world in 2017 and 2018.","PeriodicalId":330902,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Tourism Sciences","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127643206","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study helps fill this gap by developing a causal relationship model among perceived value (PV), MTE and behaviour intention (BI). A total of 374 tourists completed the questionnaire. Using structural equation modelling (SEM) technique, the results indicate that PV influences BI via the mediating effect of MTE. The ‘PV-MTE-BI’ model is supported with 74% of MTE and 31% of BI explained. This study thus concludes that to attract more tourists to the food festival, the catering industry should produce tasteful, healthy, reasonably priced, diverse and pleasing food to form positive MTE, and then attract repeat customers.","PeriodicalId":330902,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Tourism Sciences","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129690342","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study investigates Chinese Muslim women’s (Hui women) social role changes in rural tourism development in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region with gender analysis tools. A semi-structured in-depth interview is conducted among the local Hui women who are currently running the Happy farmhouse (Nongjiale). According to Longwe’s empowerment framework, the findings reveal Hui women have obtained economic independence, improved self-confidence and developed a new type of family relationship but also exposed problems like unequal division of social and family labor, weak gender consciousness and the sense of self-development. The study also demonstrates how this group of minority Chinese women gained empowerment, experience, and self-transformation through the involvement of the tourism industry. This study also provides evidence that these women's having access to more equal opportunities leads to family harmony, social stability, and tourism development.","PeriodicalId":330902,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Tourism Sciences","volume":"71 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126359629","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The two countries must utilize their unique identities to build differentiation in their sales and promotion schemes but keep their coherence and co-promotion. While Thailand has paid attention to Thai herbs for physical and mind therapy, Malaysia has put its emphasis on the spa industry. Moreover, the two have introduced integration between Phuket and Langkawi to provide effective health and wellness connectivity destinations. Such cooperation will help to boost tourism connectivity within Southeast Asian countries. This paper aims to reach a clear understanding of how each country uses health and wellness tourism to attract tourists both domestically and internationally so that such cooperation and connectivity will help to promote the industry. For this purpose, the survey was conducted through the Internet and classified the CP into 5 types by using the cluster analysis based on the survey respondents of 332 FIT who have experience of using Deluxe hotels in Busan. As a result, there was a significant difference in satisfaction, the willingness to pay premium and intention to revisit depending on CP. To be specific, others conscious/conspicuous CP showed the highest satisfaction, the willingness to pay premium and intention to revisit, while impulsive CP showed the lowest satisfaction, the willingness to pay premium and intention to revisit for Deluxe hotels. Therefore, the results of this study are expected to make a positive contribution, providing useful information to create strategies to intrigue more domestic FIT and develop better products and service for Deluxe hotel.","PeriodicalId":330902,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Tourism Sciences","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114081783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data need for the study was gathered through a semi structured interview and word cloud sheet Phenomenological reduction of the narratives was carried out via horizontal and vertical analyses and were validated via member checking procedure. Interestingly, an interesting conceptualization labelled as The Passengers’ Clock of Future Time Perspective consists of (a) Cycle of Planning: Moving with Time and (b) Cycle of Worrying: Moving against Time was emerged. Interestingly, the said model describes the passenger’s view of time and their emotional experiences when encountering delayed international flights. Findings of this study can benefit the airline industry in developing service strategies when it comes to handling passengers experiencing delays in their international flights.","PeriodicalId":330902,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Tourism Sciences","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-10-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133003431","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although empirical research on the motives to use Airbnb has been conducted, the findings have been limited and mixed. Further, identifying motives for two major segments (i.e. business and leisure travellers) enables Airbnb hosts and organizers to develop effective and specific strategies for improvement and better targeting. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate travellers’ motives to choose Airbnb accommodations and further examine business and leisure travellers’ perceived importance and performance with respect to their motives to select Airbnb. Study 1 conducted an interview and identified 10 motives. Study 2 performed an importance-performance analysis (IPA) of the 10 motives among business versus leisure travellers, and differences were found across the two types of travellers. The results showed that price, location, and home-like environment were the primary reasons leisure travellers chose Airbnb, while location, price, and user-friendly interface were the key motives for business travellers.","PeriodicalId":330902,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Tourism Sciences","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133672187","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study developed a conceptual framework to predict outdoor recreationists’ environmentally responsible behavioural intention by combining the constructs of nature-related visual images and environmental attitudes. Results revealed that the visual images generate favourable environmental attitudes that, in turn, had a significant effect on environmentally responsible behavioural intention; this further highlights the importance of the visual images (health-related and usefulness-related nature images) and environmental attitudes (ecocentrism and environmental apathy) in leisure and tourism destination contexts. The conceptual framework offered a comprehensive approach to better understand the close relationships between outdoor recreationists and natural areas. This study suggests tourism destination managers consider the nature-related visual images as environmental and recreational concepts in facilitating travellers’ behaviours in an environmentally responsible manner.","PeriodicalId":330902,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Tourism Sciences","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115995329","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many of these communities are living in poverty in biodiversity-rich areas. Tourists are attracted to these communities, mainly in remote areas, because of cultural and environmental attractions. It is believed that tourism has the power to provide benefits for both community development and environmental conservation. However, local communities are made up of groups and individuals with mixed views towards the environment and tourism. Local resident attitudes can have a significant impact on the success of tourism development and environmental conservation. Therefore, to facilitate achieving sustainable tourism development for communities within and around protected areas, this paper looks at a wide range of variables which determine and shape local resident attitudes.","PeriodicalId":330902,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Tourism Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122294679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
