However, it is important to examine whether or not the CIE whiteness formula is significantly superior to other whiteness formulas under the standard illuminant D65. In this study, we conducted comparisons of the predictive performance of 19 whiteness formulas, including the CIE whiteness formula. These comparisons were based on the results of nine visual evaluation experiments that were conducted by four research groups. The results of the analysis clearly demonstrated that, compared to the CIE whiteness formula, the Uchida and Grum whiteness formulas had better outcomes. The predictive performance of the CIE whiteness formula was ranked 11th among the 19 whiteness formulas. This low predictive performance is due to the structure of the CIE whiteness formula, which does not have a penalty term. We also found that the structure of the Grum whiteness formula was simpler and had better predictive performance than the Uchida whiteness formula. Thus, we conclude that the Grum whiteness formula is superior to the Uchida whiteness formula.","PeriodicalId":328826,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Science and Technology in Lighting","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117307889","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dissipated power mode fraction has been conventionally defined by dividing the normalized in-plane wavevector with the cut-off of the transvers propagation, which is equal to the refractive index of the each layer, according to the ray-optical sense. Instead, we adopt the propagating EM eigenmode in OLED, physically confining a piece of the power in the thin film layers. The spectral integral is described as the extension of Cauchy’s principal value integral at the eigenvalue of the in-plane wavevector of the EM propagating mode along the layers; and is derived to the product of the peak value of the spectral distribution and the imaginary part of the eigenvalue of the in-plane wavevector multiplied by π, with the aid of the selfconsistent scheme. For the simple model of two layers between semi-infinite substrate and metal, the present estimation is closer than the conventional one to the quantitative grasping the dipole radiation’s allocation into the extraction and the confinement.","PeriodicalId":328826,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Science and Technology in Lighting","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121164871","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Blue LED light has the 450–500 nm wavelengths, and high photon energy compared with green or red LED light. It is known that the exposure to blue LED light causes retinal photoreceptor cells damage. It is unknown whether the blue LED light cut particle containing lens has a protective effect against blue LED light-induced cell damage although the absorbance by colored lens shows a protective effect. Thus, the purpose of this study was to reveal that the protective effect of blue LED light cutting particle containing lens against photoreceptor and corneal epithelial cell damage induced by blue LED light exposure. We irradiated blue LED light to the mouse photoreceptor cells and human cornea epithelial cells with or without lens. The lens containing about one third blue LED light cutting particle (TECHPOLYMER) decreased production of reactive oxygen species and improved cell death rate and cell viability rate. These findings show that TECHPOLYMER containing lens may protect photoreceptor and cornea cells by reducing of reactive","PeriodicalId":328826,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Science and Technology in Lighting","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115404944","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This lighting plan is for a unique facility in which books make up the category information for the products on each floor. The goal was to energize the station-front district by creating a “town living room” that fosters community and generates new value, with the town’s residents as the protagonists. The approach to the facility from the pedestrian deck in front of Hirakatashi Station presents the façade in a distinctive way, showcasing the motions of the people inside. The color temperature of the lighting was carefully selected around a core of 2700 K. This new illuminating devices installed and evaluated the visibility of the road at Hanzan Tunnel for the down line of Takamatsu Expressway. As the result, the vertical illuminance is improved by 40% when increasing the ratio of vector component of light by using the Pro-bean. Actually, according to the questionnaire result of subjects who had a driver’s licence were different by gender, ages and driving experience, by increasing the vertical illuminance the visibility of the leading vehicle are improved significantly. Therefore, it is expected that the Pro-Beam illumination for improving the visibility by increasing the vertical illuminance is effective in reducing traffic accidents in tunnel.","PeriodicalId":328826,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Science and Technology in Lighting","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126813620","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, ensuring the visibility of obstacles on roads is an important factor for maintaining a safe and comfortable visual driving environment. The visibility of obstacles on road, especially in tunnels, is related to the lighting environment. In this study, we have proposed two lighting-control methods and evaluated the visibility of obstacles under a combination of light-distribution control and lighting-time control and a combination of light-distribution control and color-temperature control. Further, we evaluated the effectiveness of these two lighting-control methods and obtained good visibility by combining the pro-beam lighting operated using direct current (DC) and symmetric lighting operated by pulses having a frequency of 60 Hz and a duty ratio of 50%. The visibility can be effectively improved by increasing the luminous contrast between the background road surface and the object. In addition, when lighting-time control was applied, temporal luminance contrast was achieved, and the perceived luminance was enhanced by the pulse (Broca– Sulzer effect), thereby improving the visibility. Further, the visibility can be improved by changing the color temperature with the light-distribution angle because of the difference in chromaticity between the background road surface and the object.","PeriodicalId":328826,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Science and Technology in Lighting","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132263432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
