To improve their stability, two layers of assembled boulders are placed like fallen dominoes facing downstream around the triangular shape of each mount. Further assembled boulders are placed along both sides of the channel. The ecological improvements are quantified by the definition of refuge, i.e. anywhere inside the flow where fishes might escape the flooding’s force. In this paper, the needs of small sized fishes are considered (body length under 0.30 m). Point gauge and electrical-magnetic current meter are used to measure elevation and horizontal velocity components, respectively. The channel slope is kept at 0.01, while four different discharges are researched. The collected results are very promising: the introduction of assembled boulders is very important to maintain the model’s stability and flatten the water surface along the sides of the channel. The gravel mounts’ triangular shape successfully forces the flow to meander. Areas with slow flowing water are generated near the gravel bed along the channel’s sides. There, the requirements for the definition of refuge are met. As the water volume increases, the flow straightens, particularly inside the channel’s centre, but the refuge able areas are still forming. Each gravel mount is expected to generate a volume suitable for refuge as large as 40% of its own, with limiting factors such as flood’s discharge or shallow water conditions having little effect on this performance.","PeriodicalId":326567,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental Science Studies","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122390765","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study analyzed drinking water quality at the tap in the Wa Municipality of Ghana. Bacteriological, physicochemical, aesthetic, and some chemical parameters of raw, treated and tap water was analyzed. The analysis showed that drinking tap water has a good quality and was satisfactory according to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) guidelines for drinking water. However, an assessment of consumers’ perception of water consumption profiles revealed that 25 % of the respondents claimed that the water quality was bad and had some taste that may be attributable to the long period of water storage. Therefore, it is recommended that the post chlorination dose should be increased to ensure the disinfection requirements and avoid any post-treatment contamination.","PeriodicalId":326567,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental Science Studies","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126616888","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To solve the problem, we develop several mathematical models, using both qualitative and quantitative methods, analyzing the importance of each influencing factor, finally build evaluation model of ecological environment and nature reserve.Firstly, in order to make a comparative analysis of the environmental conditions before and after the restoration of Saihanba, I collect the data of forest coverage rate, water conservation, PM2.5, oxygen release and carbon dioxide absorption of Saihanba in 60 years from 1962 to 2021, establishing Entropy Weight Method and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution model (EWM-TOPSIS). Obtained that water conservation was the index with the largest weight, forest coverage rate is the index with the least weight, and the ecological environment in this area is the best in 2021 and the worst in 1962, indicating that saihanba restoration plays a significant role in improving the environment in this area.Secondly, I analyze the correlation between saihanba and Beijing's ecological environment, and qualitatively judge the degree of impact between the two. Then I take five ecological environment indexes of Saihanba as independent variables and four indexes of Beijing's anti-sandstorm ability as dependent variables of four Multiple Linear Regression models (MlR), which helps me make quantitative judgment, and finally get the conclusion that the improvement of the ecological environment of Saihanba will promote the anti-sandstorm ability of Beijing.After modelling, I also conduct sensitivity analysis to experiment the sensitivity of some parameters included in my models. In the end, I summarize strengths and weaknesses and a brief conclusion is also presented.","PeriodicalId":326567,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental Science Studies","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123807155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Previous research on the topic of military assistance has focused on the strength of the cyclone or earthquake as the dominant factor. The kinetic force behind a natural disaster is important, but many other elements influence a request for aid from the United States. Resilience factors such as the infrastructure’s ability to withstand the disaster impact the nation’s ultimate decision to request external help. If local structures and support instruments are robust enough, additional assistance will not be necessary. This paper analyzes 40 years of the United States military humanitarian response; over 300 military operations were reviewed and coded based on the nature of the disaster and the impacted country’s Bundhis Entwicklong Hift WorldRiskIndex exposure, susceptibility and coping capacity values and FM Global Resilience Index natural hazard risk quality value. The research shows foreign countries will likely request the United States military aid if they have an exposure value greater than 26.3. The results of this study will assist military commanders in defining response requirements and aligning operational plans with the most vulnerable populations.","PeriodicalId":326567,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental Science Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129564388","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Large-scale construction projects have a long cycle and complex construction environment, and the schedule control is obviously disturbed by meteorological and other factors. Risk control of schedule delays is an important part of project risk management. The study of extreme weather events has become a key focus and hotspot in meteorological and climate science research in the context of global change. This paper proposes a more objective approach to defining extreme climate events from the study of extreme climate event uncertainty. On this basis, the spatial and temporal characteristics of extreme temperature and precipitation in recent decades are analysed. Considering the variability of precipitation and temperature, an idea is proposed to study extreme continuous precipitation events, and the mechanism of extreme precipitation occurrence in the region is explored. Finally, the LSTM model data are used to carry out studies and projections of changes in extreme climate events under different future scenarios.","PeriodicalId":326567,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental Science Studies","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-05-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126261740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has been observed that marine resources and fish catch in the area are declining. This study assumed that fishing practices affect the decline of marine and fish catch in the bay. A study on the documentation of fishing practices in the area is reported here. Key informant interview (KII), focus group discussion, direct observation and document archival were used. Twenty-three (23) fishing practices were observed in the area. Based on R.A. 10654 or the Philippine Fisheries Code, five (5) fishing practices were identified in the bay which are illegal. These are “pahulbot sa lalum”, “pahulbot sa mabaw”, “panubli”, “panguryente” and “troll” that destroys sea grasses, coral reefs and the sea beds. The illegal fishing practices identified poses a threat to the marine resources. It implies weak implementation of fishing policies among the LGU’s and other concerned government institutions and NGA’s. Capacity building, CEPA campaign and committed implementation of the Philippine Fisheries Code (R.A. 10654) should be implemented by the PAMB and stakeholders in the community to manage the remaining coastal marine resources thereby uplifting the socio-economic status of the coastal community and achieve sustainability.","PeriodicalId":326567,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Environmental Science Studies","volume":"435 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134050497","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
