En Chile, Lobesia botrana es una plaga sometida a una campaña de erradicación/contención. Su manejo emplea la confusión sexual (CS) como una herramienta de control fundamental, la cual es habitualmente evaluada indirectamente por la supresión de capturas de machos en trampas y/o por la evaluación de la disminución del daño en fruta, en campos tratados. Sin embargo, el objetivo de la CS es la disrupción (evitación) de la cópula. El presente estudio proporciona bases para el uso de la técnica de la “hembra centinela” como método alternativo y directo para la evaluación de la eficacia de la CS midiendo el porcentaje de cópulas en hembras. En estudios conducidos en laboratorio se evaluó en hembras adultas la edad a la copula post emergencia desde la pupa y las dimensiones de la bursa copulatrix en hembras vírgenes y copuladas. Adicionalmente, se evaluaron dos métodos de confinamiento de hembras vírgenes (con un ala amarrada a una plataforma versus jaulas de acceso restringido), midiendo los respectivos % de cópula al exponerlas a machos vírgenes, lo que se contrastó con las hembras vírgenes no confinadas. Se determinó que las hembras copulan antes de las 48 horas desde el emparejamiento con un macho. La bursa copulatrix de una hembra virgen mide 0,9 ± 0,03 mm de largo x 0,2 ± 0,01 mm de ancho, mientras que en una hembra copulada mide 1,1 ± 0,5 x 0,5 ± 0,3 mm, lo que constituye un criterio objetivo para determinar el estatus de cópula de una hembra. Las hembras vírgenes fueron capaces de copular en todos los tratamientos; 100% de las hembras no confinadas copularon, 92% copularon con un ala amarrada y 64% en jaulas. Se concluye que el método de confinamiento en jaulas funciona para evaluar de forma directa la eficacia de la CS.","PeriodicalId":32612,"journal":{"name":"Revista Chilena de Entomologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"70027187","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Las especies arvenses son eliminadas de los agroecosistemas al ser consideradas reservorios de organismos plaga ignorándose los beneficios que pueden reportar, de ahí la importancia de realizar investigaciones en este sentido. El objetivo del trabajo fue evaluar la entomofauna asociada a tres especies arvenses del género Cleome y sus relaciones potenciales con cultivos agrícolas. Se seleccionaron tres áreas de muestreo para cada especie, realizándose un muestreo único mediante la técnica de conteos comunes por hábitat, evaluándose la composición insectil, el porcentaje de representatividad y la proporción de gremios tróficos. De diversidad se tuvo en cuenta la Riqueza de Especies, Dominancia de Simpson, Diversidad general y como medida de similitud se tuvo en cuenta la formación de grupos homogéneos mediante un análisis multivariado (CLUSTER). Se contabilizó un total de 613 individuos, pertenecientes a seis órdenes, 20 familias, 34 géneros y 35 especies. Coleoptera, Lepidoptera e Hymenoptera fueron los órdenes más representados, en tanto, las plagas y los polinizadores fueron los gremios tróficos de mayor proporción. Los valores de diversidad de la entomofauna, aunque están dentro del rango establecido, revelan una diversidad de baja a moderada donde las especies más dominantes tienen una baja influencia dentro de las muestras y en su mayoría son clasificadas como escasas. Existe similitud entre las diferentes áreas para una misma especie de Cleome, sin embargo, entre las tres especies la similitud es baja. El manejo adecuado del componente entomológico no es un impedimento para la conservación de estas especies en los agroecosistemas.","PeriodicalId":32612,"journal":{"name":"Revista Chilena de Entomologia","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47517630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Atillum André, 1903, is a genus endemic to South America composed of 49 valid species. This study was motivated by the inconsistency of the available information, where, depending on the consulted bibliography, the number of Atillum species in Brazil varies. This contribution aims to reduce the knowledge gap on this genus, verifying the real number of species that comprise it and which actually inhabit Brazil. The specialized bibliography for Mutillidae and Atillum was consulted, in addition to carrying out an exhaustive consultation of the specialized bibliography. Additionally, to validate some of the records found, Atillum specimens deposited in the main collections that house this group were examined. As a result, records were found for ten Atillum species in Brazil, nine of which were confirmed as present in the country, and unpublished records of presence of Atillum and Atillum bucephalum (Perty, 1833) in four Brazilian states and eight municipalities located in the Northeastern region of the country","PeriodicalId":32612,"journal":{"name":"Revista Chilena de Entomologia","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48117068","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

No predation events on mites or fungal ingestion were observed, indicating that these thrips only use wasp eggs as food. Thrips do not parasitize wasps’ bodies, they only live at the expense of their colonies, where they find food and shelter. However, as these insects feed on the immature stages of the wasps, it is possible that they cause or accelerate colony decline. Given this, we can say that the ecological relationship between thrips and social wasps is that of social parasitism, that is, thrips are parasites of wasps colonies, they depend directly on them for their survival and cause damage to them. From our findings, the number of host wasp species of this thrips rose to five, all belonging to the Polistinae subfamily.","PeriodicalId":32612,"journal":{"name":"Revista Chilena de Entomologia","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48452842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, the aim of this study was: (i) determine the seasonal characteristics of the pollen collected by M. crinita, regarding the botanical origin; (ii) the growth habit of plants visited by workers and (iii) the contribution of wild and agricultural species in providing pollen for this bee. Our hypotheses were: (i) M. crinita is a generalist species in the use of its pollen sources; (ii) M. crinita adjusts pollen foraging according to flowering variation and (iii) M. crinita visits mainly wild trees and shrubs to collect pollen. The research was carried out from April 2018 to March 2019 in a meliponary located in the rural area of Rio Branco, Acre, Brazil using a colony of M. crinita. The collected samples revealed 46 pollen types, distributed in 25 families and 41 genera of plants. Fabaceae (Mimosoideae) presented a higher frequency of occurrence, FO = 41.67%. The pollen types with the highest frequency of occurrence were: Solanum, FO = 19.72%; Alchornea, FO = 16.13% and Senna, FO = 11.93%, with the least seasonal being: Solanum and Aparisthmium cordatum. From the total plants visited by M. crinita, 71.74% were wild; 28.26% agricultural; 36.96% trees; 34.78% shrubs; 15.22% herbs; 6.52% lianas and 6.52% sub-bushes. Wild trees and shrubs represented 64.80% of all pollen collected by M. crinita.
