Thus, to obtain an accurate channel information, channel estimation is an important issue in the wireless communication systems. In general, pilot symbols are used to obtain channel information. In this paper, we propose a channel estimation technique exploiting impulse symbol for OFDM systems. Our proposed technique estimates the channel impulse response directly at the receiver in time-frequency-selective fading channels and yields better bit error rate (BER) performance than existing channel estimation methods","PeriodicalId":325797,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE 17th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114955972","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The planning objective consists in deciding which existing cellular sites should be used jointly with the broadcasting towers in a minimum cost deployment. The coverage area of WLAN systems is limited, so multi-hop WLAN system is considered to be one of the solutions. However, in home or office environments, due to the multipath propagation effect, the performance of multi-hop WLAN system is degraded. Therefore, QoS guarantee in multi-hop WLAN systems is still difficult. This paper proposes a multi-hop WLAN system for QoS guarantee by using channel estimation to select the appropriate transmission rate and giving optimum transmission opportunity to stations. We propose an ASA (aggressive sub-channel allocation) algorithm, which is an intelligent dynamic channel allocation algorithm considering all users' channel state information conditionally to maximize throughput in an OFDMA system. We compare the ASA algorithm with round-robin, PF (proportional fair) and ACG (amplitude craving greedy) in the 2-tier cell environment and then analyze the performance of each algorithm through computer simulation in downlink OFDMA system. Simulation results show that the proposed ASA algorithm gets 24 %, 16 % and 14 % better ring throughput compared with the round-robin, PF and ACG, respectively","PeriodicalId":325797,"journal":{"name":"2006 IEEE 17th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116558199","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The scheme achieves spreading gains in the frequency-domain by discrete Fourier transform (DFT), and the frequency division multiplexing (FDM) and FDMA by inverse filter-bank transform (IFBT).
