The Nomgon monitoring tower equipped with wind speed sensors at 2, 4, 10 and 20 m height above the ground level (AGL), a wind direction sensor at 10 m height, a sonic anemometer to measure turbulent momentum flux at 8 m height and a soil moisture sensor at 5 cm depth. We had a purpose to measure dust concentration of PM10 at two levels using Dust-Trak instruments during an intensive observation period (IOP) of a dust event in spring. A dust storm was expected in the Mongolian Gobi from 30 April to 1 May 2016 and two Dust-Traks were set at 0.9 and 2.95 m heights in the tower during this IOP for measuring PM10. Wind data at 2 and 10 m height, three wind components at 8 m height by a sonic anemometer, soil moisture (volumetric water content) data in 5 cm depth and dust concentrations of PM10 at two levels are used in this study. These data from the sensors and instruments in the tower were used for estimation friction velocity and vertical dust flux at the Nomgon site. In association with a surface cyclone, its frontal system and a trough aloft, the expected dust storm occurred in the Mongolian Gobi during the IOP period. Dust concentrations of PM10 increased during the dust storm period due to raised wind speed in the dry conditions of air and soil. The present study aimed to estimate friction velocity (u*) and vertical dust flux (F) around Nomgon site in the Mongolian Gobi desert during the dust storm period. The estimation results were presented in this paper.","PeriodicalId":32573,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"71015156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, it also includes the research of the linkage between the index of air quality and average price of residential house which located in the most crowded districts of Ulaanbaatar such as Bayangol, Bayanzurkh, Chingeltei, Sukhbaatar, Songinokhairkhan and Khan-Uul. The statistical analysis and statistics determination methods were applied to identify the relationship utilizing the air quality index, determined from the air quality measurement data recorded in 2015-2017, and the average price per square meter of newly built apartment houses in the selected districts. The research findings suggest that there is little direct link between the house prices and air quality level, and the air quality levels of Ulaanbaatar districts do not have a significant impact on the price per square meter. Therefore, the air quality index should not considered as a house price determinant.","PeriodicalId":32573,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46821824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fescue-forbs rangeland is the main type of rangeland in mountain steppe. The Mongolian rangeland has degraded for the last decades mainly due to overgrazing and climate change. The main objective of this study is to determine the change of plant community and reduction of abundance and productivity of dominant species Festuca lenensis in different degradation levels. The dominant species and main plant functional groups were completely changed in Fescue-forbs rangeland in compared with three degradation levels. The cover of Festuca lenensis was decreased by 98.6-99.5% and biomass percentage was decreased by 95.3-100% in three different degradation levels compared with no degraded pasture. Regarding the results of species composition, the highest number of species reached in moderately degraded pasture, lowest number of species reached in heavily degraded pasture. The species similarity coefficient=0.45 between slightly and moderately degraded pastures. Heavily degraded pasture was different from other two pastures. Quantity of individual species increased in moderately and heavily degraded pastures compared with slightly degraded site. It has depended on increaser and tolerant plant species, these are Arenaria capillaris, Potentilla acaulis, Artemisia frigida, A.commutata, Chamaerodos erecta and Carex duriuscula. According to the study of high yielding varieties, the varieties all increase the maturity of hybridisation. However, Jelty gigant varieties have the advantage of general and special combinations (gi = 15.6, σsi2 = 6.4), the minimum seedling duration, and the early varieties of varieties can be used for breeding varietiesThe combinations of our studies include the maturation of flowering and fruitful maturity of h2=0.69-0.67, fruit quantity per plant h2=0.60-0.66) by selection and those are inheritable characters with medium value. In the case of Mongolia, this method is not suitable in view of the sparse population, large distribution area of forests and the huge territory of the country. Therefore, this study used topographical features to determine the borders of the seed regions. Satellite images in combination with Digital Elevation Model (DEM) make it possible to define rivers, streams and mountain ridges as the borders of forest seed regions. Overall, we identified 19 seed regions for Siberian larch and 12 regions for Scots pine, 9 regions for Siberian pine, 6 regions for Siberian fir and 9 seed regions for Siberian spruce forests. Due to a lack of genetic-selection studies in Mongolia, these proposed forest seed regions can be considered as a preliminary effort with an opportunity to be updated and improved based on more detailed research results. The forest seed regions and maps will play important role as fundamental material for establishing a permanent forest seed supply based on genetic-selection characteristics of the forests in different regions in Mongolia.","PeriodicalId":32573,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-04-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45892200","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
