This research examines usage patterns of biking behavior by analyzing extensive smart card data from public bike-sharing system in Ningbo, China. Existing studies consider usage patterns of a bike-sharing scheme mainly basing it on trip and weather data and therefore, few studies have taken into account how free-floating shared bikes affect public bicycles. Hypothesis testing and multinomial logistic regression model were adopted to examine trends and explore differences between the two datasets. This research found that trip frequency presents habitual patterns with an obvious morning and evening peak and that usage frequency of public bikes decreased after the emergence of free-floating shared bikes, especially in peak periods of weekdays. Concurrently, it’s found that customers tend to spend significantly longer time on public bicycle trips than before emergence of free-floating shared bikes. Results indicate that free-floating shared bikes and public bicycles have competitive relationship in peak period. The findings of this research will therefore provide a good explanation of how bicycles serve residents and provide support for public bike system operational decisions.","PeriodicalId":325712,"journal":{"name":"2019 5th International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127597909","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Joint simulations of two types of traffic control managements (TCMs) were performed using VISSIM, MOVES, and Synchro to investigate the mechanism of PM2.5 emission reduction through TCMs. After localizing the parameters of simulation tools based on the observations of a typical urban road network in Chengdu, the managements of traffic signal control (TSC), volunteering car share (VCS), and the combinatorial method of TSC and VCS were studied. The simulation results revealed that TCMs can considerably improve vehicle behavioral characteristics in intersections, arterial roads, and networks. The trends of decrease in delays, and increase in average speed of vehicles were indicated by the simulation results as well. The better performance of TSC compared to VCS suggested that the PM2.5 emissions control can be realized effectively by traditional traffic signal control methods and a new mode of travel in sharing business.","PeriodicalId":325712,"journal":{"name":"2019 5th International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125623554","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The efficacy evaluation of AtoN is closely associated with the arrangement of navigation aids in both river and port waters. Qualitative description methods are known as convenient but sometimes subjective. A few attempts in the literature review have been conducted for quantitative evaluation. In the present study, a numerical model has been presented by adopting Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Fuzzy theory. The index evaluation system is established considering the characteristics of the navigation channels in the research domain. The weight of each index is then determined. The judgment matrix is finally combined with the data analysis of the expert questionnaire to achieve quantitative evaluation of the AtoN efficacy. The results indicate that the efficacy of AtoN is overall favorable (with a mean value of 8.0 out of 10) under current arrangement. The proposed quantitative evaluation method could provide a guidance for maritime safety administration.","PeriodicalId":325712,"journal":{"name":"2019 5th International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126816165","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, existing solutions require expensive hardware to detect various driver statues. This paper proposes a low-cost passenger activity detection system which uses common sensors in mobile devices. The proposed system detects various human activities (e.g., chatting, silence) and traffic environments (e.g., clear traffic, crowded) using three types of sensors. First, the human conversation can be recorded with the microphone to infer activities of each individual. To address the context of the audio, a CNN based deep learning model is developed. Second, outside traffic context information can be extracted from motion sensors and GPS. Lastly, we use data fusion to combine the multiple sensors data associated with human activity preferences and traffic environments. Meanwhile, we use data collected in real world environments to evaluate the accuracy and effectiveness of our system.","PeriodicalId":325712,"journal":{"name":"2019 5th International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125934176","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A method of measuring flight crew’s team situation awareness based on situation awareness and team shared model was proposed and the visual landing experiment was designed based on simulated flight experiment platform. The individual situation awareness (ISA), mutual awareness (MA) and shared mind (SM) which includes team dimension and task dimension of flight crew were measured during the experiments, and their safety performance was obtained by expert scoring method. The results showed that there was no significant difference in ISA between high and low performance groups, there was a low positive correlation between safety performance and ISA, and the correlation coefficient was 0.423; However there were significant differences in MA, team process and task process between high and low performance groups, there were a moderate positive correlation between safety performance and these 3 indicators, and the correlation coefficient were 0.695, 0.753 and 0.739 respectively. Taking communication and information integrity as independent variables, and those 4 indicators as dependent variables, two-factor analysis of variance was conducted. The results showed that the main effects of communication and information integrity were significant, the interaction between them was not significant. To sum up, in addition to improving the individual SA of pilots, it is more important to ensure the integrity of flight data and increase the level of crew’s mutual awareness and team shared mind through the effective communication of the crew, it is significant to improve team situation awareness and ensure flight safety.","PeriodicalId":325712,"journal":{"name":"2019 5th International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128064838","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly, a traffic flow model of automatic terminal is established and the strategy of considering road congestion is designed. Secondly, an improved A* algorithm is proposed to find the shortest path of AGVs. On the basis of the above, a predictive two-stage path planning algorithm based on time window is proposed, and the dynamic path planning algorithm is used as a comparison to plan a conflict-free path for each AGV. Finally, the rationality and feasibility of using the two-stage algorithm are verified by simulating the loading and unloading amount, the maximum number of active AGVs and the number of path-finding failures of the two algorithms in the same time.","PeriodicalId":325712,"journal":{"name":"2019 5th International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126584600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The assessment of Level of Service (LOS) of multi-lane highways is traditionally based on the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM). However, the HCM method does not takes into account randomness in vehicular flow as well as state-dependent speed of vehicles on multi-lane highways, which do not depict actual conditions. To aid the traffic and highway designers as well as to capture the randomness in the vehicular arrival flow and state-dependent speed, a Discrete-Event Simulation (DES) framework using the Phase-Type Distribution is developed. The Phase-Type distribution takes into account randomness in the vehicular flow. The LOS computation under different settings of design parameters shows that the vehicular arrival rate, Squared Coefficient of Variation (SCV) in the inter-arrival time and number of lanes significantly affects the LOS of multi-lane highways. The length of multi-lane section also has an influence on the LOS, which is ignored by the HCM. The proposed DES framework will assist the traffic and highway designers to make smart choices in LOS computation.","PeriodicalId":325712,"journal":{"name":"2019 5th International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"22 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130383396","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Populating crash data with the high-resolution (in space and time) traffic data to investigate the relationship between crash risk and traffic conditions can help the active traffic management (ATM) to predict crash risk in real-time. To improve the accuracy of the existing real-time crash prediction methods, this paper proposes a Bayesian network (BN) model with the variables selected by the random forest (RF). The study used the traffic and crash data from I-5 segment (13.8-miles-long) in Los Angeles, where the traffic data (flow, speed, occupancy and etc.) were recorded by sensors. The RF was used to rank the explanatory variables based on the Gini index, which yields the most significant variables for the crash prediction. Different from the previous studies, the gradient change of traffic data along distance is recognized as an important variable. The developed BN-RF model is evaluated by ROC curve. The results indicate that traffic conditions at two five-minute intervals prior to a crash is very sensitive to the crash risk prediction. A sudden speed change (speed magnitude in a short time and distance), characterized as one unit, makes the distribution of crash posterior probability at least 0.045 higher compared to the marginal value. The most important finding is that the proposed BN-RF model for the real-time crash prediction can accurately predict 70.46% of crashes with a 16.07% of false alarm rate, which is better than that of previous studies.","PeriodicalId":325712,"journal":{"name":"2019 5th International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114986195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The estimates of market prices were drawn from available valuation data used in municipal tax assessments. The observations of market rents were gathered from online lists of offers. These were used to estimate the parameters of an equation that both (a) relates rent to purchase price and (b) explains how rents are impacted by spatially varying factors considered in PECAS. A Bayesian approach was used in estimation in order to incorporate prior knowledge from previous PECAS work and specify expected relationships to support results for certain types of development in areas where the data were limited. This provided a form of non-linear hedonic model using estimates of zonal-level base rents and the influences of parcel-level attributes adjusting these rents, including structure type, building quality and proximities to specific features. PECAS is designed to both explain these zonal-level base rents and also respond to them, indicating (a) how supply and demand interact to establish these rents, (b) how the demand for space is influenced by zonal-level attributes – such as neighbourhood school quality, proportion of green space and crime rate – along with accessibilities provided by the transportation system together with the spatial distribution of development, and (c) how the supply of space is adjusted by developer actions in the construction, renovation and/or renewal of space as capital investments.","PeriodicalId":325712,"journal":{"name":"2019 5th International Conference on Transportation Information and Safety (ICTIS)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130764771","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
