Although the ubiquity of current web mapping services has brought great conveniences to creating map-based content, they also bring restrictions in map representation. Conventional analog maps are still being created and widely used. Some of the well-designed ones are highly contextual, and are more suitable for storytelling with related backgrounds. To utilize analog maps in location-aware mobile environments for storytelling, local and dynamic georeferencing is introduced to attach geospatial information to the analog map images without stretching them and destroying the artistic designs. A data format extended from a popular GIS data standard is designed, for creating and sharing storytelling content easily by attach multimedia resources to georeferenced map images. In cooperation with local communities, prototype developments realized tools for map-based storytelling content creation and smartphone applications for browsing the content in walking tours.","PeriodicalId":325096,"journal":{"name":"2017 Pacific Neighborhood Consortium Annual Conference and Joint Meetings (PNC)","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124707566","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has been proved that such skills can be developed through the learning process of writing. While in the past, paper and a pen were the optimal technologies to reflect the evidence of learning or the mirror of the learning mind, currently digital media have been dominant. In other words, the digital media have been providing students with richer ways of communication and presentation for expressing the mind. It is proposed that, the students' meta-cognitive reflection being the key to active learning, the development of the students' expressive skills in literacy will indeed bring about a success in life. By nurturing the students' comprehensive writing skills as the artifact or evidence for academic learning through metacognitive activities, which is in turn archived in ePortfolio, is it possible to conduct learning analytics and plan academic advice further in a fruitful way. Of course, archived artifact must be based on the honest work of students, where the authentication feature of ICT will play the important role. This paper elaborates the fundamental issues surrounding the mission of the higher education to lead to life-long learning and career and the assessment strategies for measuring the learning outcome for designing the future education.","PeriodicalId":325096,"journal":{"name":"2017 Pacific Neighborhood Consortium Annual Conference and Joint Meetings (PNC)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125766207","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To digitize such old geographic names as a snapshot database must be a first step of digitization; however, there are many awaiting solutions to link old names with current geographic names toward a spatio-temporal digital gazetteer. In this article, major source materials of old geographic names are maps of Thailand which were published in early twentieth century. Village names on these maps are names in almost 100 years ago. Even locational accuracy is not enough reliable, many historical and ethnic information on local communities can be retrieved from old maps. Facts and prospects mainly on old geographic names of Northeast Thailand are discussed.","PeriodicalId":325096,"journal":{"name":"2017 Pacific Neighborhood Consortium Annual Conference and Joint Meetings (PNC)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125110645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In 2012, the United Nations listed “Smart City” as one of the progress indicators of a country. The original development of smart cities emphasized technology-based demands, but gradually promoted people-oriented needs, especially on issues related to living and environment, such as public safety, transportation, environmental sustainability and health care. The most important concern is to provide effective solutions to local problems. Spatial information has become wider and more diversified with the rapid development of high technologies, such as ICT, IoT and big data applications. It plays an important role in the planning of smart cities and smart homeland. Municipal governance such as traffic control, environment monitoring, disaster prevention information is based on geographic information system (GIS). The resources, information and data of cities can be spatially visualized. The spatially visualized information are not only texts and data, but integrated, coherent and spatially effective information which can identify and explore correlation and development trends in urban information. In view of this, the government uses smart homeland as the core to explain development and planning of smart city and smart village, and in consideration of the unique geographical characteristics of Taiwan and the importance of spatial resources management and strategy, promotes development of spatial information technologies and application of the technologies to smart homeland. On the basis of smart homeland concept, this study discusses key points of promotional strategies and action plans of the cities in Taiwan, and from the perspective of spatial information, explores and analyzes how to integrate spatial information technologies into urban governance, disaster prevention traffic and tourism under Taiwan's strategies for smart homeland information development. It can help the county and city governments to propose the smart city development strategies, improve government governance, promote regional economic growth, satisfy people's demands and promote the sustainable development of smart cities.","PeriodicalId":325096,"journal":{"name":"2017 Pacific Neighborhood Consortium Annual Conference and Joint Meetings (PNC)","volume":"54 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113989854","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Toward this end, this research proposes a Multi-Dimensional Spatio-Temporal (MDST) data model, which is organized by the theme and the dimension. The theme covers 10 cultural tourism theme categories, including monuments tour, natural exploration, historical traces, industrial development, political development, edutainment, religious belief, arts and aesthetics, community tour, and food feast. The dimension contains 5 dimension features such as events, people, objects, places, and time. In order to help users quickly understand the spatial and temporal relevance of cultural tourism information, the theme categories are classified based on the event features and the relationship between the theme and dimension is constructed through the MDST data model. Then, the theme and dimension data are linked to the TGS to provide the customized tour information to users. By this way, the interest and depth of cultural resources can be increased and the cultural tourism value of Wu-Feng will be enhanced.","PeriodicalId":325096,"journal":{"name":"2017 Pacific Neighborhood Consortium Annual Conference and Joint Meetings (PNC)","volume":"275 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116378296","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Interactive and dynamic visualization of such data play important roles in researching and applications in the fields of traffic controlling, education, storytelling and so on. On the other hand, besides of the “modern” digital data, there are also large amount of “traditional” analogue data in the forms of maps, books, photographs and so on. Such analogue materials are valuable for historical researches and education, but current spatio-temporal visualization systems are not good at dealing such analogue materials compared to their performances on digital data. This paper introduces our research on collaging analogue maps and timeline graphs through geo-references and time-references, to enrich the analogue materials with multimedia digital data, and enable user interactions and dynamic visualization of the enriched data on digital devices for researching, education and storytelling.","PeriodicalId":325096,"journal":{"name":"2017 Pacific Neighborhood Consortium Annual Conference and Joint Meetings (PNC)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128740961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These resources clarify the temporal ranges of various temporal expressions and enable their comparison on a common temporal axis, even if they are based on different calendars. These functions cannot be realized using only ISO 8601 (widely used as standard date expression). However, the key factors of VR videos, such as interaction, framing, stitching, etc., differ greatly from that of what they used to be, it appears that storytelling is getting much more difficult than before. To deal with the problem, we analyze the New York Times 360 videos, a pioneer in immersive journalism, and want to find the film language in the 360 video. After analyzing, we concluded there were 6 key factors: surrounding, subtitles, perspective, shot size, guidance, and angle of the 360 video. In addition, we did the user study to confirm the result of ours. Finally, we provide a guideline for 360 video director to shot a 360 videos with immersion and understanding.","PeriodicalId":325096,"journal":{"name":"2017 Pacific Neighborhood Consortium Annual Conference and Joint Meetings (PNC)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132546875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
