The fourth wave assumes a progressive digitization of the value chain in the industry and the development of the networks of contractors, machines, objects, processes and systems that exchange information immediately. These new realities, determine the need to adapt and enhance the qualifications of workers in industrial enterprises. It is natural to ask about the set of competences that will be significant from the perspective of the transition towards Industry 4.0. General purpose of this article is to try to answer this question. In the first part of the article the concept of Industry 4.0 is briefly described. Special attention was paid to the analysis of the network of thematic areas, in which the publications related to this topic are presented. The final part of the article deals with an analysis of the set of competences that will be needed while working in the realities of the fourth industrial revolution. The supply chains indicate the need to develop information technology to support resource planning in an enterprise. The response to that are studies on new methods of forecasting the demand for spare parts replaced in engine overhaul using artificial neural networks. The article presents the concept of using OWL AEDO ontology in selecting independent variables for regressive SSN models. Such a solution allows to implement a systemic approach to SSN construction, and in effect to use SSN in forecasting for a wider range of spare parts. Due to the high requirements of flight safety, aircrafts are equipped with numerous data acquisition systems, data analysis and comprehensive diagnostics of their components, and aircraft engines undergo particular scrutiny. The data is collected in specialist bases, which after processing with artificial intelligence methods may bring significant economic gains for the MRO business. Students more often and more are prepared to leave the labor market. In addition to the ongoing higher education they get their education at a variety of courses and trainings; they increase their skills in workshops or attend internships and practices to become attractive candidates for the job in the eyes of a potential employer. At this point a number of questions raises, such as: do students choose their future profession consciously? what do they expect from the future profession? are they interested in working abroad after graduation? etc. According to the Forbes, logistician profession was in the top ten most popular professions in 2013 in Poland. Such action in the conviction of authors will determine which of these areas the savings should be searched for, especially in the context of a lean implying flexibility of the organization management. In the context of the implementation of the predetermined basic goal, according to the authors, it is necessary to carry out a series of indirect actions, among which the following were distinguished: Analysis of the literature on management of lean organization, which implicitly allows to verify the accuracy and soundness of the research presented in the publication, Determining what type of raw material is the most commonly used in the production of a tested part of the, which will allow for the development of lean cost strategies within it. In the research the conceptual model thesis was adopted, namely: Type of raw materials used in the manufacture of selected spare parts implies a strategy for the cost leaning within it. This article is part of a preliminary study in the analysis and selection of raw materials in the context of lean management.
