A study has shown that the prevalence of extrapyramidal side effects among patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorder on antipsychotic medication was 42.6%, with specific side effects including tardive dyskinesia, parkinsonism, and akathisia. These symptoms can significantly impact individuals' quality of life, so effective management is crucial to minimize their impact. Recent advances in the management of EPS include the use of atypical/second-generation antipsychotics and anticholinergic medications. These have been shown to be effective in managing EPS and have a better safety profile than first-generation antipsychotics. Other important strategies for managing EPS include using lower doses of antipsychotics, combination therapy, anticholinergic drugs, and non-pharmacological interventions such as physical therapy, lifestyle modifications, andaddressing potential non-adherence to treatment.","PeriodicalId":32458,"journal":{"name":"JKS Jurnal Kedokteran Syiah Kuala","volume":"63 4","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136134441","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Pesticides exposure will inhibit the acetylcholinesterase enzyme and will cause cholinergic symptoms which manifest as neuropathy. The research was conducted in March-April 2023 in Wuluhan District, Jember Regency. Pesticide exposure was evaluated through interviews using a pesticide exposure questionnaire, while neuropathy was evaluated through interviews and physical examination using the Diabetic Neuropathy Symptom Score-Indonesian version (DNS-Ina) and Diabetic Neuropathy Examination-Indonesian version (DNE-Ina) questionnaires. Univariate data analysis and bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test. The results of this study showed that most of the study subjects had worked 10 years, the frequency of using pesticides ≤2 times per week, the duration of using pesticides ≤3 hours per day, the use of PPE is lacking. Bivariate analysis showed that neuropathy occurred in the farmer group, and there was a significant relationship between length of service and neuropathy, as well as the completeness of PPE use and neuropathy. However, there was no relationship between the frequency of pesticide use and neuropathy and the duration of pesticide use and neuropathy. The conclusion of this study is that the variable length of service and the completeness of the use of PPE have a relationship with the symptoms of neuropathy in farmers. While the variables of frequency and duration of use of pesticides are not related to neuropathy in farmers.","PeriodicalId":32458,"journal":{"name":"JKS Jurnal Kedokteran Syiah Kuala","volume":"51 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136134435","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To address this issue, cocoa fruit husks extract is utilized as it contains active flavonoids with antibacterial properties. Objective: Demonstrate that cocoa fruit husk extract can degrade Lactobacillus acidophilus bacterial EPS biofilm and determine the optimal concentration of cocoa fruit husk extract. Methods: Cocoa Fruit Husk Extract Preparation was followed by Lactobacillus acidophilus bacterial preparation. Dilution was performed to achieve a concentration of 106 Bacteria/mL. Microtiter plates with flat-bottom 24 wells were sealed. They were then divided into two groups: one as a control without cocoa fruit husk extract and the other with cocoa fruit husk extract at concentrations of 1.56%; 3.125%; 4.69%; 6.25%; and 7.8%, and incubated at 35°C for 24 hours. Subsequently, they were aspirated, washed 4 times with phosphate-buffered saline, stained with dextran alexa fluor 647, and rinsed with distilled water. Biofilm sections, 0.5 mm thick, were placed on glass slides, and EPS Biofilm was measured using CLSM at 40x magnification. Results: The division into microtiter plates showed that the 7.8% concentration had the highest potential with a value of X ± SD = 8.3366 ± 1.76364 in degrading EPS biofilm compared to others. This is in line with previous research, indicating that higher extract concentrations lead to better biofilm degradation activity. Conclusion: Cocoa fruit husk extract can degrade Lactobacillus acidophilus bacterial EPS biofilm, with the most optimal concentration being 7.8%.","PeriodicalId":32458,"journal":{"name":"JKS Jurnal Kedokteran Syiah Kuala","volume":"51 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136134434","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From the etiologic, scoliosis can be divided into three kinds, congenital scoliosis, neuromuscular scoliosis, and the most common type, idiopathic scoliosis. Several patients experience spondylolisthesis concomitant with scoliosis. Understanding the pathoanatomic of these two abnormalities is very important to achieve optimal treatment. The problem lies in the extent to which vertebral instrumentation is necessary.Case presentation: The authors describe five idiopathic scoliosis patients with spondylolisthesis. We also used the Lenke classification to categorize these patients. The patient came with the complaint of a crooked back. All patients did not complain of back pain. The patients were diagnosed with idiopathic scoliosis from the physical and radiological examination. Concomitant spondylolisthesis was found in all five patients. The surgeon decided to perform deformity correction surgery followed by posterior stabilization fusion for scoliosis. There is no specific corrective surgery for the patients' spondylolisthesis.Discussion and Conclusion: Scoliosis has its challenges for orthopedic spine surgeons. Many things must be assessed in scoliosis, such as history, physical examination, full spine x-ray evaluation, Lenke classification, and instrumentation measures. Spondylolisthesis associated with scoliosis generally occurs in the lower lumbar segment. The pathoanatomic of spondylolisthesis concomitant with scoliosis was divided into two kinds and can be grouped according to three theories. Each of these theories will lead to appropriate treatment actions. Deformity correction is aimed at one pathoanatomic but improves both abnormalities if the appropriate treatment is taken.","PeriodicalId":32458,"journal":{"name":"JKS Jurnal Kedokteran Syiah Kuala","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136134439","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
