Hydrology is a study about the water cycle in the earth. In the fourteenth century, there was a serious conflict among the scientist 's thoughts about the begining of water on the surface of the earth. The emergence of this conflict, because the scholars assume that Allah SWT has taken out every water in the earth from it, and its cycle between the earth and the sky. Then a French scientist named Bernard Palissy argued that rivers and springs would not be the primary source of water without rain. And one of mufaseer who stating this opinion is Zaghloul An-Najjar. He is the chief of general assembly of al-I'jaz committee in Egypt. He is the expert in the field of al-I'jaz al-Ilmy in the Qur'an and Hadith, which is famous for his discussion of the Qur'an and the Hadith in terms of his scientific i'jaz . Sa'id Hawwa is one of the famous da’i and activist of da’wah an important role in the da’wah movement of the Muslim Brotherhood, so he was more focused on study about da’i in his tafseer. Sa'id Hawwa explains the term da’i has various meaning according to the context of the verse. Prophet Muhammad is a messenger called by God as a da’i, so is prophet before prophet Muhammad. In other words, the whole of the Prophet is a da’i . Muffasir Mu’tazilah menyatakan bahwa Allah mustahil dapat dilihat. Sementara mayoritas muffasir Sunni menetapkan bahwa Allah dapat dilihat. al-Zamakhshary penganut Mu’tazilah (dalam aqidah), cenderung dan fanatik terhadap ajaran Mu’tazilah. Dalam hal ini, berpengaruh ketika ia menafsirkan ayat-ayat ru’yatullah. Menurutnya, Allah mustahil dapat dilihat. Ia berpedoman pada ayat mengambarkan Allah tidak dapat dilihat. Sementara al-Rāzī penganut Sunni (dalam aqidah), menolak pendapat Mu’tazilah dalam persoalan teolgi ru’yatullah. Menurutnya Allah dapat dilihat. Perbedaan pendapat antara keduanya dikarnakan latar belakang yang berbeda. Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini setidaknya ada dua; Bagaimana perbedaan dan persamaan penafsiran ayat-ayat ru’yatullah antara al-Zamakhshary dan al-Rāzī? Bagaimana latar belakang yang mendorong perbedaan penafsiran antara al-Zamakhshary dan al-Rāzī dalam menafsirkan ayat-ayat ru’yatullah? Jenis penelitian ini adalah kepustakaan (library research) dengan menggunakan metode pengumpulan data dokumentasi. Data yang terkumpul kemudian dianalisis dengan metode interpretasi data dan metode analisis isi (conten analysis) dengan pendekatan ilmu tafsir. Penelitian ini menghasilkan dua poin sebagai berikut. Poin pertama, perbedaan dan persamaan penafsiran. Segi perbedaan yaitu dari aspek tafsir dan metode penafsiran. Aspek tafsir, al-Zamakhshary meniadakan ru’yatullah kapanpun, dimanapun, oleh siapapun. al-Rāzī meyakini ru’yatullah dapat terjadi kelak di Akhirat, sementara di dunia bisa saja terjadi namun karena kelemahan potensi penglihatan maka Allah belum dapat dilihat. Aspek metode, al-Zamakhshary menggunakan metode dialog, ta’wīl, bahasa/gramatikal bahasa Arab, penafsiran tidak bertele-tele. al-Rāzī menggunakan metode tafsir ayat dengan ayat lain dan hadits, penafsirannya panjang lebar, satu ayat dijadikan beberapa masalah, banyak memaparkan pendapat ulama tafsir, bahasa, kalam, penafsiran cenderung bercorak falsafi i'tiqadi, melemahkan argumen Mu’tazilah dari dalil aqli dan naqli. Segi persamaan, al-Rāzī mengutip pendapat al-Zamakhshary dari segi bahasa, keduannya menggunakan pendekatan subjektif yaitu menafsirkan ayat untuk membela, kepentingan akidahnya. Menggunakan metode tafsīr bi al-ra’y, dan menyebutkan ayat terlebih dahulu lalu menafsirkannya. Poin kedua, latar belakang yang mendorong perbedaan penafsirannya adalah; latar belakang kehidupan, al-Zamakhshary dibesarkan dilingkungan Mu’tazilah. al-Rāzī hidup pada masa penuh dengan pertikaian pemikiran idiologi Sunni dengan Mu’tazilah. Latar belakang pendidikan, al-Zamakhshary berguru pada ulama fanatik terhadap ajaran Mu’tazilah dan ahli bahasa. al-Rāzī berguru kepada ayahnya ahli fiqih dan usul dan banyak belajar karya-karya filsafat Muslim.
