The aim was to evaluate the productive potential performance of local does and their offspring, when does are offered a supplementary feeding program in pre and post–partum period. Twenty–four local does and their progeny (n=40) were used and divided into two groups: 1) Control group; does fed exclusively on grazing, 2) Supplemented group; does were supplemented at 1.5% of live weight 45 d before and 45 d after parturition. Differences due to treatment were found (P<0.05) for kid´s weight at sale (KWS), kid´s age at sale (KAS), kid´s daily weight gain (KDWG) and doe’s milk production (DMP). Kid’s mortality percentage and birth weight, milk fat content and doe’s live weight did not differ between treatments (P>0.05). High positive correlations between kid´s weight at birth (KWB) and KWS and KDWG were found (P<0.0001), but it was negative with KAS. On the other hand, KWS was positively correlated (P<0.05) with KDWG and DMP. Finally, KAS was negatively correlated with KDWG (P<0.0001) as well as KDWG with DMP (P<0.001) and protein content (P<0.05). Its concluded that pre and postpartum supplementation in local does helps to express the productive potential for milk production, plus protein and lactose contents at starting of lactation, which in turn enhanced the performance of their progeny.","PeriodicalId":32316,"journal":{"name":"Revista de la Facultad de Ciencias Economicas","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76825210","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is known that several species of bats are hosts of pathogenic Leptospira spp.; therefore, they participate in the epidemiological cycle and can generate transmission scenarios to people and animals. The aim was to detect the DNA of Leptospira spp. in bats captured in four sites from the Yucatán Peninsula, México. A kidney fragment was collected from the bats and used to extract genomic DNA. Using a PCR, the DNA of Leptospira spp. was detected. Fifty–four bats of the species Desmodus rotundus, Mimon cozumelae, Pteronotus mesoamericanus, Pteronotus fulvus, Nyctinomops laticaudatus, Peropteryx macrotis, Molossus nigricans, Molossus aztecus, Noctilio leporinus, Saccopteryx bilineata and Mormoops megalophylla were studied. The PCR yielded a total frequency of Leptospira spp. of 44.4% (24/54, 95% CI 36.2–71.7%). Species with at least one positive individual were D. rotundus, M. cozumelae, P. mesoamericanus, N. laticaudatus, P. macrotis, M. nigricans, N. leporinus, M. aztecus, and S. bilineata. A high frequency of Leptospira spp. was found in different species of bats belonging to several trophic guilds. The presence of Leptospira spp. in bats is relevant for Public and Animal Health because the evidence indicates that they can generate zoonotic transmission cycles.","PeriodicalId":32316,"journal":{"name":"Revista de la Facultad de Ciencias Economicas","volume":"170 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73229794","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, changes in tumor necrosis factor–alpha (TNF–α), myeloperoxidase, superoxide dismutase, and malondialdehyde levels due to the antioxidant properties of the plant were evaluated. The study included 24 female Wistar albino rats (Rattus norvegicus). A. linearis was administered to the treatment groups of an ethanol–induced gastritis rat model via oral gavage for 5 days the blood and stomach tissues were sampled for analysis. Biochemical evaluation revealed that TNF–α and myeloperoxidase levels decreased and superoxide dismutase activity increased in the A. linearis–treated groups compared with the ethanol–treated group. Histochemical evaluation revealed that the severity of inflammation decreased in the rats with gastritis treated with A. linearis. In addition, the number of cells expressing CD8 and CD68 decreased. The number of MHC–II immunopositive cells was higher in the A. linearis–treated group compared with the control and other treatment groups. A. linearis exhibits a protective effect on gastric mucosa by reducing the severity of oxidative stress owing to its antioxidant, anti–inflammatory, and antiapopitotic properties.","PeriodicalId":32316,"journal":{"name":"Revista de la Facultad de Ciencias Economicas","volume":"162 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89412834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

CP has negative effects on the testes, spermatogenesis, and reproductive hormones. The aim of this study was to determine the protective effect of Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) on the damage caused by CP. CoQ10 is use in the treatment of infertility problems and is naturally found in the testes and seminal fluid. Thirty–six Albino Wistar male rats were divided into six groups (Control, Sham, Cyclophosphamide (CP), Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), CP + CoQ10 I, CP + CoQ10 II), with six animals in each group. Semen analysis included investigations of sperm DNA damage, motility, abnormal sperm ratio, and density. Histopathological examination and assessment of oxidative stress parameters in the testes were conducted. Additionally, serum levels of FSH, LH, and Testosterone were measured. CoQ10 administration increased the motility rate, density, and Testosterone levels in testicular damage caused by CP (P<0.05). Furthermore, it was observed that the abnormal sperm ratio, sperm DNA damage, and oxidative stress were reduced (P<0.05). Based on the results of this study, the use of CoQ10 in conjunction with CP has the potential to alleviate male infertility problems that may arise from CP administration.","PeriodicalId":32316,"journal":{"name":"Revista de la Facultad de Ciencias Economicas","volume":"121 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90358316","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, 36 five–week–old Wistar Albino rats were used. The animals were divided into 4 groups; Control group (n:6, normal saline solution, 0.2 mL·rat-1, subcutaneously –SC–), TCAE group (Tarantula cubensis alcoholic extract, 0.2 mL·rat-1, SC), ME group (Methenolone Enanthate), 10 mg·kg-1, intramuscularly –IM–) and TCAE + ME group (Tarantula cubensis alcoholic extract, 0.2 mL·rat-1, SC + Methenolone Enanthate, 10 mg·kg-1, IM). Drug treatments were done once a week for 7 weeks. At the end of the experiment, all the animals were euthanized and their humerus and femur bones were resected and their morphometric parameters were determined. No statistical differences were determined (P>0.05) between the groups in terms of the anatomical reference points (length, corpus thickness, cavum medullare diameter, and cortex thickness) of humerus and femur bones. In conclusion, it was found that alone and combined treatments of Tarantula cubensis alcoholic extract and ME (at normal dose) had no effects on morphometric parameters of humerus and femur bones in rats in the growing period. In female cats, findings on the influence of the estrous cycle stage on oocyte quality and maturation are contradictory. Little is known about this phenomenon in female cats in the tropics. This study aimed to assess the effect of the estrous cycle stage on oocyte quality and subsequent capacity to complete nuclear maturation in cats in a tropical environment. Ovaries from 18 sexually matured cats were collected during ovariohysterectomy. Cumulus–oocyte complexes (COCs) were released from follicles by slicing and fragmentation of the ovarian cortex. According to morphological characteristics, COCs were classified into grades I–II (suitable) and III–IV (no suitable). Only suitable COCs from each cat were cultured for in vitro maturation. Nuclear oocyte maturation was assessed by the presence of a telophase I or metaphase II plate with extrusion of the first polar corpuscle. A significantly greater number of oocytes per ovary were collected from queens in inactive than in follicular or luteal phase. Proportions of suitable COCs were similar among groups. Rate of oocyte maturation did not differ among stages of the estrous cycle, nor did the proportion of non–matured or degenerated oocytes. The age of the queens did not affect the percentage of oocyte maturation. In conclusion, the quality and rate of oocytes maturation were similar in the three stages of estrous cycle examined.","PeriodicalId":32316,"journal":{"name":"Revista de la Facultad de Ciencias Economicas","volume":"28 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81459289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
