As a historian, and also a Peruvian, he has drawn on elements of Inca culture and mythology, and also Peruvian folklore. Although strongly influenced by Cortázar, Poe and Lovecraft , in terms of style, themes, topoi and poetics, Iwasaki is also indebted to the works of Jorge Luis Borges. Indeed, the aim of the article is to analyze the main Borgian influences present in Iwasaki’s works with a particular focus on his book Ajuar funerario (2004).","PeriodicalId":32174,"journal":{"name":"Acta Universitatis Carolinae Philologica","volume":"69 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74057306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This may be why some science fiction writers publish under a pseudonym while others have only dabbled in this genre. The paper analyzes Artificial Man (1910) by the Uruguayan Horacio Quiroga and Close to Life (2010) by the Peruvian Santiago Roncagliolo in order to demonstrate how the use of technology in human beings can be depicted. The article discusses in particular the means by which Roncagliolo highlights the desire for automation that leads a company to dehumanize humans in order to humanize machines.","PeriodicalId":32174,"journal":{"name":"Acta Universitatis Carolinae Philologica","volume":"13 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84499674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Starting from the fi rst introduction of Morlachs in French literature, we will try to demonstrate how the Morlach theme obtains a warm welcome from the metropolitan public. We shall also see how the same points to the danger of creating ideas about the Other based on alleged Western cultural superiority; beliefs that led to the justifi cation of the colonization of South Slavic and African countries (Michelet; Ferry, Hugo), thus opening new research perspectives in the context of postmodernist and postcolonial critiques.","PeriodicalId":32174,"journal":{"name":"Acta Universitatis Carolinae Philologica","volume":"87 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74804702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Alexander et al, would yield invaluable insights into the vicissitudes of early modern society, which underwent a profound collective trauma. This collective trauma was performed on the early modern stage, where the especially gory genre of revenge tragedy served as a work-through channel for this fundamental crisis. Replacing the one-sided concept of mourning, the complex framework of collective trauma allows to account for the hegemonic power relations in the process of the creation of different, contesting trauma narratives. Another crucial aspect of the collective trauma-framework which the paper discusses is that while it acknowledges the loss inherent in fundamental social change, it also allows for the merits of Protestantism in the long run. However, it does not necessarily lead to the idea of disenchantment, as the concept of mourning does.","PeriodicalId":32174,"journal":{"name":"Acta Universitatis Carolinae Philologica","volume":"10 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78409848","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Carlos, the Church, the literati, etc.), and the external ones (England and its Portugal-related policies). the article demonstrates that Junqueiro’s satire is aimed to produce psychological and physical pain, which is metaphorized in the images of defense and punishment. Finally, it proves that this kind of fi gurative violence, in the context of a country in dire need of activism, paradoxically took the form of a nihilistic perspective expressed through a satirical verbalization that can, nonetheless, be considered as “active pessimism”.","PeriodicalId":32174,"journal":{"name":"Acta Universitatis Carolinae Philologica","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82983891","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
