In focus group discussions, participants described their views of advantages and disadvantages of online dating and in‐person dating, how they constructed online dating profiles, decisions about disclosure of their mental health conditions to current romantic partners, and advice about dating for other people coping with mental illness. Overall, participants reported feeling less comfortable with online dating than in‐person dating. A majority of the sample reported that they intentionally excluded information about their mental health status from their online dating profiles. Present findings identified themes from participant accounts about disclosure of their mental illness to their romantic partners that included spontaneous or intentional disclosure, situational or circumstantial disclosure, delayed disclosure due to lack of information, and avoided disclosure. Adults' advice to others with mental illness centred on how to maintain romantic relationships. The importance of research focused on the lived experience of adults with mental illness in long‐term romantic relationships and practical implications of present findings are discussed.","PeriodicalId":321305,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Community & Applied Social Psychology","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128152954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nevertheless, the P‐O fit literature has often limited its scope to the evaluation of P‐O fit in the values domain, overlooking P‐O fit‐in needs. This study addresses this issue under the motivated identity construction theory (MICT, Vignoles, Handbook of identity theory and research, New York: Springer; 2011). In particular, we analyse how the fit between individual identity's needs and the organization identity's needs may influence the retention and engagement of under 35 workers. Findings demonstrated that the need for efficacy is fundamental for workers under 35 s. Not only this aspect of motivation is rated as more important in comparison with others but also P‐O fit‐in efficacy has a direct impact on identification with the company and a direct and indirect effect (through organizational identification) on engagement and intention to leave. Overall, this study gives evidence of how useful the intersection between P‐O fit with MICT can be. On the one hand, such processes may engender positive intergroup contact experiences, improving intergroup attitudes and relations. On the other hand, they may have the opposite effect, exacerbating negative intergroup relations and generating new forms of avoidance and exclusion. The present research explored one aspect of this paradox. Building on a field survey conducted with Indian residents (n = 364) of a suburb of Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, we demonstrate how their relative proximity to areas occupied by ‘incoming’ Black African residents has shaped their perceptions of intergroup threat and associated reactions such as contact avoidance, boundary fortification and support for policies resisting desegregation. At the same time, we demonstrate how such effects are moderated by residents' wider experiences of positive interracial contact. In conclusion, we emphasize the need to better integrate psychological work on the contact hypothesis with work in companion disciplines such as urban studies and human geography. Since 2019, Chega has grown exponentially and has become the third political force. This study aimed to explore how Ventura represents different members of Portuguese society. We examine what meanings are reproduced to configure social representations about different category groups, adopting Critical Discourse Analysis tools to explore how they were mobilised as legitimate. We analysed 253 posts shared by Ventura on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram from the 22nd of December 2020 to the 22nd of January 2021, a month before the 2021 presidential elections. Our analysis suggests that Ventura represents a reality in which only he can save the “good Portuguese” from the threats of three main enemies: Roma people, Black people, and so‐called “antifascist” activists. We discuss how those representations relate to what has been found in other contexts and their implications for the promotion of discrimination and marginalisation of these groups in Portugal. We also point out the potential benefits of integrating Critical Discourse Analysis methodological tools for the development of the Theory of Social Representations.
