Internet of things, cloud computing, governance, and urbanism are some examples of new paradigms and new approaches in the area of information systems, which highlight the information as a basic resource for economic activity and justify the need to ensure appropriately the functions of production, storage, and distribution insofar as of its quality and availability depends on the effectiveness of corporate governance. This chapter, carried out by the European Club for Information Systems Governance in 2011 and 2012, provides evidence about the governance practices adopted in the area of information systems by large economic organizations in Portugal.","PeriodicalId":321030,"journal":{"name":"Global Information Diffusion and Management in Contemporary Society","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122193363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The business sustainability definitions have been subjected to an abstractive decomposition. The phrases and terms derived from the abstractive decomposition has been categorized into three types, and each answers the questions of why sustainability, how it could be achieved, and where it will lead the businesses. Concepts categorized under each of these questions are defined individually and described with contextual relevance and examples from literature or industry. The glossary has been presented with a logical order to supplement the table of phrases and concepts. This work is an extension of the work reported on defining business sustainability through an abstractive decomposition.","PeriodicalId":321030,"journal":{"name":"Global Information Diffusion and Management in Contemporary Society","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117328864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Identification is often linked to the causes and aims of the organization; in instances where the organization is known to stand for a particular cause, consumers are likely to identify with the mission of the company and furthermore to demonstrate loyalty to its products. Drawing on the identity theory perspective, this chapter aims to examine the resistance to brand switching in the smartphone industry. The findings suggest that brand identifiers sometimes proactively generate negative word-of-mouth about brands that they do not identify with, especially after they are exposed to comparative advertising. Several insights regarding the literature on resistance to brand switching in the smartphones industry were identified, including conceptualizing social creativity. Suggestions are offered for future researchers, and implications for managerial practices on the study findings are provided.","PeriodicalId":321030,"journal":{"name":"Global Information Diffusion and Management in Contemporary Society","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132587797","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This chapter looks at the security of systems from the organizational perspective. Specifically, this study attempts to identify if different organizations have different predisposition to particular type(s) of security threat sources. Using publicly available security breach data from a privacy rights clearinghouse to investigate which organizational characteristics predisposes an institution to an external or internal threat source, it was concluded that as size of organization and the number of its valuable documents increase by one unit, the organization's probability of suffering an internal attacks decrease. Furthermore, when executive members have a business degree rather than information-security-related degrees, the likelihood of suffering an internal attack increases. Also, the probability of an organization suffering an internal or external attack is not based on its industry type.","PeriodicalId":321030,"journal":{"name":"Global Information Diffusion and Management in Contemporary Society","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116203474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are playing a vital role in the development of smart systems for transportation throughout the world. Based on IoT, the internet of vehicles (IoV) paradigm is emerging to revolutionize the field of ITS. In this paradigm, vehicles leverage the use of internet for socializing with other vehicles, infrastructures, passengers, and drivers. This concept of vehicle socialization is referred to as social internet of vehicles (SIoV). This chapter presents the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) perspective of SIoVs by highlighting the latest trends being followed by GCC countries in the broader field ITS. It also provides an insight into opportunities enabled by SIoV applications that can be availed by GCC countries along with the challenges and limitations.","PeriodicalId":321030,"journal":{"name":"Global Information Diffusion and Management in Contemporary Society","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125149073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The full knowledge which is one of the assumptions of the traditional economic approach has been rejected in the recent studies and it is stated that the information is lacking and asymmetric and therefore market disruptions come to the forefront. Information created under certain conditions that economic agents use in their decisions and actions does not remove the problems of adverse selection and moral hazard. Information asymmetry among individuals will be minimized through institutions to be established in the obtaining, usage, and transfer of knowledge. Institutions such as signaling and discrimination, which will be created in the labor market in particular, will be able to provide economic efficiency by selecting qualified staff and paying based on efficiency.","PeriodicalId":321030,"journal":{"name":"Global Information Diffusion and Management in Contemporary Society","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132454332","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They have performed wonders for individuals, societies, and nations worldwide. Nevertheless, they have also generated numerous global issues. This chapter surveyed and discussed 10 of these issues: interruption of traditional business models, threats to privacy, cyberbullying, unethical behavior in the workplace in a digital world, undesirable impact of texting, new challenges of polling, online piracy, threats to national security, threats to human jobs, and obstacles to information technology innovations. Upon reading this chapter, the reader should be able to understand that every new technology has tradeoffs, and recognized issues lead to improvements and more innovations.","PeriodicalId":321030,"journal":{"name":"Global Information Diffusion and Management in Contemporary Society","volume":"128 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127729160","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the ever-changing business world of today, no one knows what is around the corner, and to improve agility is the best way to organize to the test of the future. By defining IT maturity in your organization, you can map a route to successive levels of maturity and improved agility to reach a point where IT contributes to the execution, growth, and rapid transformation of the business. A successful IT service and asset management need to be efficient and agile to help transform from a traditional into a digital enterprise. In this chapter, the authors propose a global and practical strategic framework to improve ITSM service management processes with the additions of two drivers: agility control based on DevOps and security management based on SecOps.","PeriodicalId":321030,"journal":{"name":"Global Information Diffusion and Management in Contemporary Society","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123673757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study finds that the type of business benefits expected to be derived from an ERP upgrade project, and the similarities between a firm and a new ERP system business processes have a strong impact on an ERP upgrade decision. Strategic business benefit has a relatively high impact on the upgrade decision than the managerial and operational business benefits. In contrast, symbols attached to an ERP system and top management supports are not salient factors influencing the ERP upgrade decision. However, based on further analysis of the pattern-matching of cause-effect relationships tested in this study, this research suggests that top management supports are necessary but not a sufficient factor to justify for an ERP upgrade, when there are lack of strategic business benefit incentives and similarity between a firm and a new ERP system business processes. This also indicates that ERP upgrade decisions are made rationally rather than habitually and socially defined.","PeriodicalId":321030,"journal":{"name":"Global Information Diffusion and Management in Contemporary Society","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123443709","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Driven by the global educational challenge in the twenty-first century, the Nigerian University Commission had stated that Nigerian university system will now go paperless as it has launched a portal called NUSMAP. The major set-back to the realization of the objectives of NUSMAP is that most Nigerian universities still handle their information system manually by using paper as a delivery vehicle. Some use the single management system. Other universities employ the LAN management model, where each department and/or unit has its own established management information system on the LAN. Very few universities use a campus network where departments/units can share information. In view of the above, the researchers propose a campus network that will be a modelled management information system for information diffusion and management in Nigerian universities.","PeriodicalId":321030,"journal":{"name":"Global Information Diffusion and Management in Contemporary Society","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133971408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
