Objective: This study aimed to estimate the prevalence, microbiological pattern, and antibiotic susceptibility of neonatal sepsis in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Aswan University Hospital (AUH) in a specific time. Methodology: The study was a prospective cross-sectional study carried out on all neonates admitted to the NICU with suspected neonatal sepsis a from August 2017 to July 2018. All neonates were subjected to history, examination, and investigations which included complete blood count, Creactive protein, and blood cultures at the time of presentation. Results: Our study included 100 neonates with suspected neonatal sepsis. Positive growth in blood culture was 23% of cases. Isolated organisms were 11% S. aureus, 7% K. Pneumonia and 5% Enterobacter cocci. Antibiotic sensitivity revealed that the three organism were sensitive to Ciprofloxacin. All cases were resistant to Erythromycin and Gentamycin. About 8.6% were leucopenic, 38% had leukocytosis and 95.7 % had high CRP. Conclusion: This study revealed increasing rate of neonatal sepsis with high degree of antibiotic resistance to commonly used antibiotics among both gram-positive and gram-negative isolates.","PeriodicalId":320375,"journal":{"name":"Aswan University Medical Journal","volume":"224 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122610247","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Aim of Study: to determine a reference range of renal artery measurements by using MDCT angiography and to find association of renal artery measurements with side of artery and gender in Aswanian population. Patients and Methods : The study includes 106 patients who underwent abdominal MDCT angiography. Images were evaluated for the level of origin, length, diameter, gender& side variations of renal arteries. Results : the most frequent level of origin of the renal arteries was lower third of L1, followed by disc between L1-L2. The diameter of main renal artery was (4.83±0.88 on right side& 5.04±0.82 on left side), the renal artery diameter in males was wider than females (p-value = 0.022). The length of the right renal artery was (3.57±1.07) longer than the left (2.87±0.83). The diameter of the main renal artery in kidney with single renal artery was wider than kidneys having multiple renal arteries (p-value < 0.000). Conclusion: The renal arteries present a broad spectrum of variability in their morphological expression respecting their length, level of ramification, diameter and emergence.","PeriodicalId":320375,"journal":{"name":"Aswan University Medical Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132361951","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, 24-hour urine collection for measuring total proteinuria is time consuming, subject to collection error, requires good patient’s compliance and usually done on an in-patient basis. Objective: The aim of the current work was to evaluate the accuracy of the spot urine Protein Creatinine ratio (PCR) in random urine samples as a predictor of significant proteinuria in women with hypertensive disorders with pregnancy. Patients and methods: This was an observational comparative prospective study conducted at Aswan University Hospital Obstetrics and Gynecology, Department during the period from April 2019 till September 2019. A total 90 pregnant women, recruited from either the antenatal clinic or the casualty, were included. Results: The random urinary protein/creatinine ratio was found to correlate significantly with the 24-hour total urinary albumin. It was shown that a receiver-operator characteristic (ROC) curve using the results of the 24-hour urine as the gold standard and then determining the sensitivity and specificity of the random protein/creatinine ratio with a range of cutoff values. A best cutoff value was at 0.45 and this yielded a sensitivity of as high as 82.1% and specificity of 87.5 %. These figures are quite acceptable and mean that this cutoff value can be used in clinical diagnosis and management. Conclusion: Random PCR could be used as a rapid, easy and reliable test for diagnosis of significant proteinuria in hypertensive disorders with pregnancy and can be used as an alternative to 24 hour urine collection.","PeriodicalId":320375,"journal":{"name":"Aswan University Medical Journal","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129435865","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
