Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy, outcome and complications of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy ( ESWL) versus semi-rigid ureteroscopy (URS) in the management of proximal ureteral stones 10-15 mm. Materials & Methods: This is prospective comparative study of 40 patients with symptomatic upper ureteric stone 10-15mm. At the outpatient clinic of urology department, Aswan University hospital, within the time of December 2018 to March 2020 . Patients were classified into two groups: URS (Group A ) and SWL (Group B) . Inclusion criteria were single stone ureter, radio-opaque stone and size ranged from 10-15mm. Results: Stone-Free rates in URS group 85% vs 70% in ESWL group (P Value 0.002). There is no significant difference in complication rate between ESWL and URS. As regarding the need for auxiliary procedures, 2 cases (10%) needed URS after ESWL & 3 cases (15%) needed ESWL after URS (P value 0.015). Conclusion: Both ESWL and URS are effective treatment modalities for upper ureteral stones between 10-15 mm with minimal patient morbidity.","PeriodicalId":320375,"journal":{"name":"Aswan University Medical Journal","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122222383","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Levels of adiponectin, an adipocytokine, and adropin, a peptide hormone are altered also by the effect of age. Many age-related health consequences could be related to these changes. Aim of this study is to find out levels of lipid profile, total testosterone, adiponectin and adropin in a group of Upper Egyptian men and find out effect of age on them. Methods: 83 male subjects were enrolled in this study and divided into two groups: group A: aged from 18 to <30 years, and group B: aged from ≥ 30 to 50 years. Lipid profile parameters, total testosterone, adiponectin and adropin were measured. Results: Group B showed higher TC, TG, and LDL-c levels, and lower total testosterone, adiponectin, and adropin levels. Conclusion: Progressing in age is associated with dyslipidemia, lower testosterone, adiponectin, and adropin levels.","PeriodicalId":320375,"journal":{"name":"Aswan University Medical Journal","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128790844","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Surgical management is rapidly changing with the most popular procedure is the single stage total trans-anal pull-through. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the management Hirschsprung's disease by one stage pull-through Soave procedure concerning perioperative, short-term outcomes and complications. Methodology: The study included 32 patients recruited from the Pediatrics Surgical Department, Assiut University Hospitals at the period between April 2015 and March 2019 and followed up at our clinic. Results: The advantages of this operation included a good cosmetic effect and a short hospital stay, and its safety has been proved by many studies, also surgical site infection was encountered only in 18.8% of cases in the trans-abdominal group, compared to no cases in the trans-anal group. In this study, post-operative incontinence was not significantly different between the two groups. Hospital stay was significantly longer in trans-abdominal than trans-anal group. Conclusion: According to this study trans-anal pull-through maneuver has the advantages of less incidence of ileus, constipation, pain, and incontinence, and shorter operative time and hospital stay above trans-abdominal one.","PeriodicalId":320375,"journal":{"name":"Aswan University Medical Journal","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114297739","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

At least half of these deaths are caused by malnutrition. Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of under-nutrition in hospitalized children in Aswan University Hospital. Patients and methods: The present study was a cross-sectional study that included 250 children who were recruited from Aswan university hospitals over a period of six months from April to November 2018. We utilized non-probability consecutive sampling Technique. Results: The nutritional history of the included children showed that the majority of children had mixed feeding (46%) and the mean duration of breastfeeding was 1.8 ±0.15 years. Eighty percent of the child had cow milk before 1 year of age and 71.2% of the children received food by 4 month of age. There were statistically significant differences between undernutrition and normal groups in terms of parity, and gravidity. The relation between under-nutrition and complaints of the included children showed that there was a statistically significant difference between under-nutrition and normal groups in term of diarrheal morbidity per year. Conclusion: In our study, we found that almost 13% of the children admitted to our hospital had under-nutrition.","PeriodicalId":320375,"journal":{"name":"Aswan University Medical Journal","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117099878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
