Implementing a research-based learning (RBL) model with a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) approach can effectively transform students' learning processes, promoting experiential learning through the integration of STEM elements. This study employs a mixed-method research design, combining quantitative and qualitative methodologies, to evaluate the impact of this RBL-STEM model on students' ability to solve graceful coloring problems, hence developing their combinatorial thinking skills. Two distinct classes, one experimental and one control, were analyzed for statistical homogeneity, normality, and independent t-test comparisons. Results indicated a significant post-test t-score difference between the two groups. Consequently, we conclude that the RBL model with a STEM approach significantly enhances students' combinatorial generalization thinking skills in solving graceful coloring problems. As this research provides empirical evidence of the effectiveness of a STEM-based RBL model, educators, and curriculum developers are encouraged to incorporate this approach into their instructional strategies for enhancing combinatorial thinking skills. Future research should consider various contexts and diverse student populations to further validate and generalize these findings.","PeriodicalId":31892,"journal":{"name":"Tadris Jurnal Keguruan dan Ilmu Tarbiyah","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41398085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The 4D methodology was followed, involving defining, designing, developing, and disseminating the research. The FORTUNE test, comprising 13 questions, was administered to 70 tenth-grade students (44 girls and 26 boys) aged 15 to 16. Rasch analysis was applied to categorize student responses into seven distinct categories: Sound Understanding (SU), Partial Positive (PP), Partial Neutral (P0), Partial Negative (PN), Misconception (MC), No Understanding (NU), and No Coding (NC). The results revealed that FORTUNE effectively diagnosed students' conceptions, with 61% of responses falling into the Misconception (MC) category, while only 3% were classified as Partial Positive (PP). Notably, students displayed misconceptions in questions of moderate difficulty, as indicated by Rasch analysis. In conclusion, this study successfully developed and implemented the FORTUNE Open-Ended test to assess students' conceptions of Work and Energy in the context of the Indonesian Capital City in East Kalimantan. The findings highlight the prevalence of misconceptions among students, particularly in questions of moderate difficulty. Addressing and rectifying these misconceptions require targeted instructional strategies to foster a deeper and more accurate understanding of the topic. Future research should explore the effectiveness of intervention programs aimed at enhancing students' conceptual understanding of Work and Energy.","PeriodicalId":31892,"journal":{"name":"Tadris Jurnal Keguruan dan Ilmu Tarbiyah","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42862395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, several studies have shown that the disposition to think critically is still low. This descriptive-qualitative research aims to analyze and describe prospective mathematics teachers’ critical thinking dispositions based on their self-confidence. Three subjects were selected from a total of 25 prospective mathematics teachers who were given a self-confidence questionnaire, with very good, good, and poor self-confidence criteria. Data collection was conducted by administering a critical thinking disposition test of the Problems With No Specified Universal Set Given (PWNSUS) type and conducting interviews. The results of this research indicate that prospective mathematics teachers’ self-confidence influences their critical thinking disposition. Prospective mathematics teachers with very good self-confidence fulfill the components of a critical thinking disposition, namely systematicity, self-confidence, inquisitiveness, open-mindedness, and analyticity. Meanwhile, prospective mathematics teachers with good self-confidence fulfill the components of self-confidence, inquisitiveness, open-mindedness, and analyticity. However, prospective mathematics teachers with poor self-confidence only fulfill inquisitiveness and analyticity. Two of the three subjects were unable to achieve two critical thinking components, namely truth and maturity, which can be developed through various exercises.","PeriodicalId":31892,"journal":{"name":"Tadris Jurnal Keguruan dan Ilmu Tarbiyah","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42999307","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It aims to develop a lift-the-flap mathematics book contextualized with Tolaki local wisdom and Islamic religious values and investigate its impact on students' interest and achievement. The study was conducted following the Research and Development (RD) framework, specifically the ADDIE model comprising Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation phases for instructional design. The teaching material developed was applied to a Grade VII Junior High School class focusing on numerical topics. Results from data analysis suggested that the material demonstrated a good level of feasibility, scoring 76 percent for media feasibility and 77 percent for content feasibility. Overall, the material was well received by both teachers and students, with positive response rates of 74 percent and 85 percent, respectively. Descriptive analysis indicated a notable increase of 26.43 percent in students' interest in learning mathematics following the use of the lift-the-flap book. Moreover, inferential statistics revealed a significant improvement in students' interest and learning outcomes in mathematics after the implementation of the teaching materials contextualized with Tolaki local wisdom and Islamic religious values. The improvement was statistically significant with a p-value less than 0.05, indicating that the lift-the-flap book has substantial potential in enhancing mathematics education. Based on the results, we recommend further studies to investigate the impact of such culturally-infused teaching materials on other aspects of learning, and exploration of its applicability in other educational levels or subjects.","PeriodicalId":31892,"journal":{"name":"Tadris Jurnal Keguruan dan Ilmu Tarbiyah","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43866402","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
