Existing state-of-the-art studies have mainly focused on applying this technology, but the potential risk of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) exposure is really overlooked by them. This still holds for the general case of the RF Wireless Communication networks. Hence, we consider The Minimum Radiation Path Problem of finding the lowest radiation trajectory of an agent moving from a source to a destination point in a network plane.Different from previous works, we attempt to study (for the first time in the state-of-the-art) path radiation under a more realistic WPT model than the usual one-dimensional models, that have been used in the past and cannot capture interesting super-additive and cancellation effects between distinct electromagnetic sources. In the light of the above, we design and evaluate both an algorithm and a heuristic that achieve different trade-offs between radiation and trajectory length of a moving agent.","PeriodicalId":318525,"journal":{"name":"2018 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"31 6","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113974405","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cyberattacks in SG, usually target the availability and the information integrity of the systems. Replay attacks, Denial of Service (DoS), Distributed DoS (DDoS) and botnets are typical examples. Furthermore, the hacking tools have been largely automated, so even a novice can execute destructive cyberattacks. These situations make it necessary to develop efficient firewall systems that can prevent possible cyberattacks. In this paper, we present an overview of the various firewall systems in the SG paradigm and also we provide new research directions in this field.","PeriodicalId":318525,"journal":{"name":"2018 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122428155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, most of the implementations proposed so far are for specific devices, or require administrator rights and rooted phones for installation. For this reason, in this paper we propose an Android opportunistic engine, part of the HYCCUPS project, that can be run on most Android devices with a simple installation. Furthermore, applications that require opportunistic communication can easily be implemented on top of it, and in this paper we show how. Moreover, we also present an initial evaluation of our proposed engine and show that it is able to deliver all messages between two nodes with good latency.","PeriodicalId":318525,"journal":{"name":"2018 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127698845","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The platform brings together, on one hand, a novel middleware application, called Dedalus, used for monitoring and controlling experiments, and, on the other hand, a number of implementations of popular protocols that perform ad hoc routing, delay-tolerant routing, information-centric networking, and encryption. The platform has been designed in a modular manner that enhances its scalability and adaptability by the wider research community. We also present preliminary experimental results that shed light on the properties of the wireless channel and the behavior of ad hoc routing protocols in uncluttered settings.","PeriodicalId":318525,"journal":{"name":"2018 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117240619","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Routing is an essential way in realizing these requirements as it determines the reliability, lifetime, end-to-end delay of a network. Software Defined Networking (SDN) delivers a promising solution to Wireless sensor networks (WSN) in providing flexibility in network management decisions such as routing, scheduling, just to mention a few. On the other hand, IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy Networks (RPL) is considered as the standardized routing protocol for industrial-type applications. Due to the rapid technological growth in WSN, which increases its challenges, a need to provide a detailed performance evaluation of SDN and RPL is consequential. In this paper, we investigate on the performance of SDN and RPL by providing a performance analysis on real-hardware based experimental measurements using OpenMote-CC2538. The results were compared with the simulated nodes in terms of reliability, packet loss and end-to-end delay.","PeriodicalId":318525,"journal":{"name":"2018 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125325120","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As OFDMA offers a flexible design of bandwidth usage by letting smart subcarrier allocation schemes in the frequency selective channels, combining NCC with OFDMA leads to feasible transmission schemes for efficient resource utilization. A single relay selection (SRS) technique is used to alleviate the complexity of utilizing all relay nodes. This system model is referred to as NCC-OFDMA-SRS. The first order approximation of the outage probability expressions of the NCC-OFDMA-SRS system is derived, and the results are supported by extensive simulations. In addition, the asymptotic outage probability expressions are obtained, showing that the achievable maximum diversity gain results are attained.","PeriodicalId":318525,"journal":{"name":"2018 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128388474","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Within RPL, distance calculation is abstracted by the Objective Function (OF) and two OF implementations have been standardized, namely OF0 and MRHOF. However, these OFs build network topologies where bottleneck nodes may suffer from excessive unbalanced traffic load. The load distribution problem is a major issue for existing OFs defined in RPL because it decreases network performance and the network's lifetime. In this paper, we propose a new OF called the Traffic Aware Objective Function (TAOF), which balances the traffic load that each node processes in order to ensure node lifetime maximization. To implement this OF, we altered the DIO message format, introduced a new RPL metric, named Traffic Rate, and used a new parent selection algorithm. Simulation experiments have been conducted to examine the performance of our proposal. The results show that TAOF achieves enhanced performance in terms of Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) and that it builds more stable networks with fewer parent changes.","PeriodicalId":318525,"journal":{"name":"2018 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122168122","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These technologies are called “bandwidth calendaring and much research has been conducted on them. Most of them are assumed to be applied to bandwidth assignment on WANs connected to data centers. We are interested in balancing the loads on links so as to accommodate as many demands arriving after allocation as possible on a network.For this purpose, we propose a bandwidth calendaring model for balancing link loads. This model is formulated as a dynamic optimization problem with nonlinear link cost functions. We propose a high speed algorithm that uses the network structure of the problem. Internet of Things (IoT) can be leveraged as a tool for transformation to provide technology-assisted city development and management. However, given that many of the nodes in smart cities are constrained devices, part of the medium-long term challenges is how to sustain the real-time monitoring capabilities of the city without disrupting services. This paper investigates the effects of data traffic characteristics on the active life of constrained devices in smart cities. The access network model employs two leading low-power wide area network (LP-WAN) technologies; long range wide area network (LoRaWAN) and Sigfox specifications in a star topology. The results show that in Europe, for lightweight applications such as smart street lighting that sends small payloads once a day, Sigfox and LoRaWAN can provide device lives of about 5.82 years and 13.25 years respectively. On the other hand, for intense applications such as smart bus stops, using payload of 12 bytes, if the number of messages sent per day is increased from 1 to 140, Sigfox device life reduces from 4.43 years to 0.8 years while that of that of LoRaWAN reduces from 13.1 years to 10.48 years.","PeriodicalId":318525,"journal":{"name":"2018 Global Information Infrastructure and Networking Symposium (GIIS)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127991757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
