The contours of the fundamental model of Budapest’s intellectual history of that time have been drawn by the interaction of two components. Despite the unavoidable generalization, the following thesis can be presented: the contents of the three “non-simultaneous” great waves of the European Modern Age revealed as “simultaneous” phenomena in the politics, science and aesthetics in the Budapest context. Tacit knowledge was the focus of interest in the second period of Polányi’s sociology of knowledge. He explained the concept, the mechanisms, and the functions of tacit knowledge in several studies and with complete persistence. The process described by Polányi is a ‘real process’. But not a real process can not become the criterion of truth or the foundation of a conception of truth. Most social scientists of that age held the opinion that the fact that the representatives of the Hungarian 1956 formulated and represented values in an explicit way made the judgement of the events impossible as it would violate Max Weber’s principles of value-free judgments. We believe that the evidence of ‘moral truth’ could be based more successfully on so-called fundamental consensus. i.e. consensus in basic values than on the universal truth approach of the sociology of knowledge. One of its constituents has already been mentioned: neither concept of evidence can avoid relativism. Scientific communities also have their own history. Thomas S. Kuhn’s concept of paradigms changed the situation dramatically. It settled scientific communities in the decisive position of scientific production. This theory liberated science very rapidly, also in practice. In this Kuhnian framework was born Polányi’s vision of democracy in the sciences. We don’t know what Polányi would say about our new trends. Certainly, he would stick to his special liberal position.","PeriodicalId":31709,"journal":{"name":"Ecocycles","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68244313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Deterioration of unprotected landscapes during swift industrialization, urbanization, increasing monocultures in agriculture, expansion of commercial production significantly contributed to these negative consequences. However, a cultural shift occurred during the last two decades in favour of landscape conservation. In response to widespread landscape degradation and loss of ecosystem services, the Council of Europe saw the need to protect, manage, and develop the landscapes, and thus signed the European Landscape Convention (ELC) in 2000. This was the world's first international agreement that described all aspects of landscape management in detail. The European Landscape Convention fully meets the challenges through its goal of correcting a lack of understanding of landscapes as a unique system embracing natural, economic, and social features throughout Europe. It goes beyond simply protecting landscapes and addresses landscape management and development, as well as raising public and government awareness of the importance of paying attention to all types of landscapes, whether exceptional or spoiled. Landscape observatories, multifunctional platforms and knowledge centres for researchers, technicians, administrators, and citizens, are one of the Council of Europe's instruments for implementing the European Landscape Convention (ELC). They can be established on a variety of scales and can serve as a vital link between administrations, civil society, researchers, and the economic sector. This article discusses the emergence of landscape observatories and the role they can play as decision support instruments in promoting sustainable landscape development through a regenerative approach. Additionally, the paper discusses the implementation of ELC in Västra Götaland in Sweden through the establishment of Landscape Observatory Västra Götaland, and its impacts and challenges associated with landscape development. Furthermore, we propose a comprehensive and holistic, to any landscape type adaptable landscape observatory concept, based on multifunctionality of these institutions, emphasizing their decision support roles, social and economic importance.","PeriodicalId":31709,"journal":{"name":"Ecocycles","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68244607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, it represents a reasonable approach to future management decisions. This study aims to analyse the trend of solid waste management research publications in the Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) databases. ScientoPy was used to analyse the datasets in this study by defining publication growth, projected subject areas, productive source titles, productive countries, and the most frequently used keywords over time. The findings of this study underscored that the Scopus and WoS databases evince a steady escalation in publications throughout the years, with a marked upswing from the outset of the 21st century. The three subject areas with the most published documents are Environmental Sciences & Ecology, Engineering, and Science & Technology - Other Topics. India has been found to possess the highest count of published documents, amounting to 474 papers, and displays a comparatively high percentage of documents published in 2021 and 2022 (PDLY) of 23%. Based on an analysis of research topics, it has been determined that solid waste management is a multifaceted and interdisciplinary area of research that encompasses a broad spectrum of topics, including but not limited to sustainability and life cycle assessment. This input provides valuable insights that can aid in comprehending issues, addressing gaps, and directing future research endeavours, particularly those related to ecological cycles. Such insights can assist researchers in resolving pressing concerns and generating innovative solutions. Prospective studies in solid waste management may focus on innovative waste treatment technologies, policy analysis, economic implications, and investigation of emerging issues such as sustainability and life cycle assessment. Interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge sharing can facilitate the resolution of solid waste management issues.","PeriodicalId":31709,"journal":{"name":"Ecocycles","volume":"270 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68244885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Embracing agrarian principles such as sustainable practices and the significance of agriculture is seen as a more ethical and sustainable approach to human-environment interactions. Reading the novel highlights an agrarian perspective, underlines the need for sustainability, and advocates for a deeper understanding of the relationship between humans and non-human entities. Agrarian principles, emphasizing rural living, sustainability and the value of agriculture, are positioned as a counter-discourse to modernity, especially its reliance on technology and scientific knowledge which detrimentally impact the environment.. Compared to other discussions of agrarianism, the present study emphasizes the use of narrative strategies to heighten readers’ awareness of the intricate relationship between humans and nature, To conclude, this study seeks to foster critical reflection on environmental issues and promote awareness of alternative perspectives and environmental approaches by emphasizing the agrarian viewpoint in the novel and exploring its implications.","PeriodicalId":31709,"journal":{"name":"Ecocycles","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68244910","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Extensive research has focused on finding alternative materials to conserve resources and minimize costs. This study explores the utilization of recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) as a substitute for coarse aggregate, along with waste materials like fly ash (FA) and rice husk ash (RHA) as fillers in bituminous paving mixtures. The aim is to address environmental concerns and waste disposal issues. The research evaluates the performance of different filler types in non-conventional bituminous mixtures using VG 30 grade bitumen as a binder, specifically for lower bituminous layers. A typical bitumen concentration of 5% by weight of dense bituminous macadam (DBM) mixtures is chosen based on existing literature. The study assesses various performance characteristics, including Marshall parameters, indirect tensile strength, and moisture susceptibility. A probabilistic approach is employed to determine the most suitable distribution model, focusing on retained stability (RS) as a measure of moisture susceptibility. For this, fifteen distribution functions were considered with three Goodness-of-fit (GOF) tests. To identify the best suitable function, 50 numbers of samples were prepared to find RS with two types of fillers and two types of coarse aggregate. Experimental results indicate that mixtures with natural aggregate exhibit slightly superior performance, but those with RCA meet all the requirements specified in relevant Indian codes and specifications. The probability analysis confirms that the Burr distribution best fits the experimental data, particularly for moisture susceptibility characteristics.","PeriodicalId":31709,"journal":{"name":"Ecocycles","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135502466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The real solutions to global problems at the local levels can only be expected through the widest possible social cohesion and the effective transmission of the results of science to all ages and social strata. One of the best ways to do this is by involving present or historical data from reliable sources of qualified and reliable amateur (citizen) scientists, which is an outstanding methodological opportunity to expand and increase the efficiency of scientific research. Therefore, citizen science has become more and more widespread within and between different disciplines in recent decades. One of the significant practical examples of this, with the persistent and accurate work of a late enthusiastic amateur data collector, Mr. László Cseh), who measured, collected and preserved main local climate data (that is, the average and maximum temperature and precipitation) over several decades in Csem?-Ereklyés region near Cegléd. The comparison of these data sets with the dynamics of the national middle-term data and the possibilities of their use in explaining plant phenology shifts are presented in this paper. According to our results, these local data sets fit well with the national trend and can increase the effectiveness of nature conservation by demonstrating the effects of climate change on plant phenology. Community science provides an opportunity for greater social recognition and acknowledgement of scientific results.","PeriodicalId":31709,"journal":{"name":"Ecocycles","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68244240","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Environmental assessment is a possible tool to describe the potential sequestration of carbon and greenhouse gas emissions. The forest carbon stock and life cycle assessment approach was used here to analyze poplar plantations in Hungary. This study aims to describe the research trends of environmental assessment of poplar plantations in Hungary using VOSviewer software. A total of 1,528 documents from the Scopus database were used in this research. VOSviewer analysis was conducted to detail the bibliometric maps from generic (“forest” OR “forestry” AND “Hungary”), medium (“poplar” AND “Hungary”), and specific (“poplar” AND “carbon” AND “Hungary” / (“poplar” AND “life cycle assessment”) OR (“LCA” AND “Hungary”). The findings show that the number of documents on forest research in Hungary has increased significantly since the 2000s. However, items on environmental assessment, either forest carbon or life cycle assessment, produced only a tiny number with weak links. In conclusion, i). the large number of collected documents produced more clusters; ii). The item of Hungary is the most frequently used keyword in the research article; and iii). The research theme of environmental assessment (carbon sequestration and life cycle assessment) of poplar plantations in Hungary is the continuing lack of knowledge. Furthermore, the research on biodiversity and climate change mitigation (carbon stock and sequestration) were prominent topics that many researchers do. In the future, research on climate change mitigation through the life cycle assessment to analyze global warming potential (GWP) from forestry activities is a prospective research topic to enrich the study on poplar bioenergy plantations.","PeriodicalId":31709,"journal":{"name":"Ecocycles","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135502463","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Focusing on the Lower Digaru River basin of North-East India,the present study investigates the changes in theLand Use / Land Cover (LULC)trend using geospatial techniques and the cause-effect relationship by identifying the various environmental issues operating within the study area. The study area has been classified into nine LULC classes: dense forest, openforest, scrub forest, fallow land, barren land, cropland, dense scrub, mixed built-up land, and water body. The results revealed that the area under dense forest has drastically declined from 60.25 % to 16.63 % during 1999-2020. In contrast, the other important categories like Mix built-up land (8.11 % to 14.05 %), scrub forest (2.1 % to 25.11 %), barren land (0.2 % to 6.63 %) and open forest (11.9 % to 18.34 %) show an increasing trend of change during the said period. Post-classification comparison of the classified images based on the transition matrix indicated that approximately 40 % of the total area under forest had been converted to scrub forest, followed by 25.09 % to open forest and, most significantly, 5.22 % to mix built-up land during 1999 -2020. Increasing population pressure and growth of economic activities like the establishment of brick industries, coke industries, and sand mining were the major driving forces for such LULC changes. Environmental implications like wetland shrinkage, river bank erosion, alteration of human occupation and economy, etc., were the study area’s prime concern. The findings suggest that integrated watershed management and land use planning should be implemented in the Lower Digaru River Basin.","PeriodicalId":31709,"journal":{"name":"Ecocycles","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68244976","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Today, brands are increasingly using digital media to disseminate environmental brand activist campaigns, take a stand on ecological issues, and promote pro-environmental behaviors and conscious consumption practices, although not all brands succeed in this approach. This advanced review aims to address how brands are using online platforms, such as social networks and websites, to amplify their audiences' perceptions about environmental problems, inspire eco-friendly behaviors, and motivate conscious consumption. Thus, this article contributes to a better understanding of how digital media can be an opportunity, if well used, for brands to encourage positive environmental changes, giving current examples of environmental brand campaigns and discussing directions for future research in this field.","PeriodicalId":31709,"journal":{"name":"Ecocycles","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"68245172","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
