In this modern and future communication paradigm hundreds of different smart Internet enabled devices will communicate with each other continuously. For such communication networks and smart devices, apart from the sophisticated communication protocols, efficient hardware will also play a very crucial role. Antennas being at the front end of communication, are one of the important components of such a hardware. The antennas for IoT applications are required to exhibit three important characteristics, namely; (i) small size, (ii) energy efficiency and (iii) ability to operate in multi antenna environment. In this paper, we propose an antenna design that fulfils these important requirements. We propose an ultra-wideband antenna that is small in size compared to other existing designs, with dimensions 24 × 28 mm2, that can easily fit in hand-held mobile devices. Measured results indicate that the antenna not only has a very small power return loss but also exhibits a low mutual coupling that highlights that the proposed design is capable to operate in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) configurations.","PeriodicalId":315765,"journal":{"name":"2016 10th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126661227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The developed algorithms employ a simple alternative to previously algorithms, which use delays in updating the adaptive filter coefficients and reduce the channels in the diagonal structure. Our experimental results show that both developed bilinear filtered-error least mean square (BFELMS) and channel-reduced diagonal bilinear filtered-error LMS (CRDBFELMS) algorithms gain almost the same performance as compared to diagonal bilinear filtered-x LMS (DBFXLMS) algorithm. What's more, both proposed algorithms could significantly reduce the computational complexity of the standard DBFXLMS algorithms with almost the same performance.","PeriodicalId":315765,"journal":{"name":"2016 10th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"09 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126249697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the capture environment, the reader may not fully recognize the tags within its scope. In many RFID applications, the reader identifies the tags in its range repeatedly; in these cases, the reader should recognize staying tags rapidly and spend the main time in identifying arriving tags. For these reasons, this paper presents a capture-aware and blocking binary tree protocol (CBBT). A CBBT reader can identify the tags in its range completely when the capture effect happens. CBBT not only prevents the collisions of staying tags but also inhibits staying tags from colliding with arriving tags. What's more, each staying tag only replies a very short response to the reader to be identified. Thus, staying tags can be identified quickly in CBBT. Simulation results show that CBBT outperforms the existing algorithm significantly.","PeriodicalId":315765,"journal":{"name":"2016 10th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114078600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cloud removal technology for a single image becomes significant when no images containing cloud-free regions are available. After the fundamental principle of dual tree complex wavelet transform (DTCWT) was reviewed, and the frequency relationships between clouds and ground objects in remote sensing images were analyzed, a novel algorithm to remove clouds from a single remote sensing image was proposed. The algorithm divided the cloud-contaminated image into low level high frequency sub-bands, high level high frequency sub-bands and low frequency sub-band by DTCWT. The low level high frequency sub-bands were filtered to enhance the ground object information by Laplacian filtering. The other two types of sub-bands were processed to remove cloud by applying the method of cloud layer coefficient weighting (CLCW). Image processing experiments were implemented. Their results were analyzed. It proved the Laplacian contributes to enhancing ground object information adaptively. CLCW has the ability to remove clouds while preserving the ground object information outside the cloud cover. The proposed algorithm is greatly superior to algorithms based on traditional wavelet transform and the wavelet threshold theory.","PeriodicalId":315765,"journal":{"name":"2016 10th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"126 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128025278","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This resists us to simply deploy a VLP system on the existing lighting infrastructure. This paper proposes an uncoordinated multiple access scheme for VLP systems without the need for central unit. A unique codeword is allocated to each transmitter equipped with a light emitting diodes (LED). The transmitters send the code words in an asynchronous manner. A receiver can eliminate the interference among the LEDs by using Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to estimate the average received powers from each LED. Then the estimated power is used for position estimation. The required FFT size and the scheme delay, i.e., the minimum received signal duration needed by the receiver to estimate the average received powers from the LEDs, grow linearly with the number of LEDs. The proposed scheme is compared with the existing schemes in literature. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing schemes in terms of receiver complexity, scheme delay and system performance. The average 3-dimensional position error of 3 cm is achievable for average transmitting optical flux of 500 lm. Our proposed scheme can be applied to a system with a large number of LEDs. The potential of the proposed scheme for data communication is discussed.","PeriodicalId":315765,"journal":{"name":"2016 10th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"1039 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123139214","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The real challenge in speech emotion recognition (ER) lies in the extraction of features that efficiently encapsulate the emotional information in speech and also do not depend on the speaker. This paper deals with the challenging task of speaker independent ER based on feature selection and classification algorithms. Features are selected based on continuous wavelet transform (CWT) and prosodic coefficients, and are classified and compared using support vector machine (SVM).","PeriodicalId":315765,"journal":{"name":"2016 10th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122758690","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We describe the development of the model of a node's precise hardware platform capable of executing the protocol's binary code using TLMu, a QEMU wrapper that integrates into SystemC. Our simulation framework incorporates high abstraction level node models and highly detailed node models in a wireless network model based on SystemC. An observer module is added to the simulation framework to analyze exchanged frames and detect protocol property violations. Through our experimental study, we show the correct functionality of our hardware platform model through comparison with real frame exchange traces and the verification of one of the protocol's properties during simulation.","PeriodicalId":315765,"journal":{"name":"2016 10th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"233 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126446179","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

DM-MIMO coordinates lots of distributed transmission points (TPs) that are located in ultra-high density (UHD) and use various numbers of antenna elements for each TP. It can achieve drastic improvement of areal spectrum efficiency for 5G. It can also dynamically create user-centric virtual cells corresponding to user mobility. To design flexible antenna deployment of DM-MIMO that is applicable to various use cases in 5G, some key parameters such as the number of the distributed TPs, the number of antenna elements for each TP, and proper distance between TPs should be determined. This paper provides such discussion for 5G DM-MIMO with the flexible antenna deployment under fixed total transmission power and constant total number of antenna elements. Computer simulations show that DM-MIMO can achieve more than 2.5 times system throughput in comparison with a Massive MIMO system using 128 antenna elements.","PeriodicalId":315765,"journal":{"name":"2016 10th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122326241","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Gaussian transformation technique is combined to further enhance the tracking performance. To handle the fast varying subspaces circumstances, the variable forgetting factor (VFF) technique is developed and incorporated into the algorithm.
