New Thought is a phenomenon quite unknown not only in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also in the neighbouring countries of the region, and therefore not fully explored. The author offers a comprehensive account of New Thought, which entails a presentation of socio-historical, religious as well as cultural contexts that fostered the emergence of New Thought teaching. West-European and American religious contexts are particularly emphasized because this is where New Thought was created. The applied purposes of this article are based on the religious Imams’ statements including scientific and practical approaches to the Islamic architectural harmonization, urban structures and elimination of factors that destroy urban civilizations. Religious leaders have commented on Islamic architecture leading to civilized societies. These comments include urbanization, making green spaces, building structures facing Qibla, building horizontal-oriented houses and avoiding some special manifestations in architecture such as statues. As one of the dimensions of art is architecture, Muslims have paid attention to the construction of mosques and monasteries, which are quite present in Islamic architecture. They have also paid attention to the results of this view in their discussions. One of the most important results of the embodiment of deeds is to prove the existence of a creational (Takwini) relationship between the otherworldly requitals and the deeds of mankind which, according to the proportionality of deeds and requitals, is also a basis for other worldly requitals. Another aftermath of this theory is to accept some sinful people shall remain in Hell forever, while it has been denied by the seven principles of Ibn Arabī. Based on the precedence of Allah’s mercy over His rage or accidental being of human actions, the Sheikh seeks to justify the exodus of perpetrators from the everlasting retribution, while these principles have been criticized, and ultimately, their effectiveness in the cessation of the punishments has been seriously called into question. One of these is his argument for the unity of the essence of the Essentially Necessary Being. This argument rests upon the idea that the Essentially Necessary Being is meta-complete and that there is no necessary connection between multiple instances of the Necessary Being. It is possible to formulate this argument in the following manner: If it were possible for there to be more than one instance for the Essentially Necessary Being, then none of the instances of the Essentially Necessary Being would be meta-complete. However, every instance of the Essentially Necessary Being is meta-complete. In conclusion, it is not possible for there to be more than one instance of the Essentially Necessary Being. Sometimes, in place of the concept, \"meta-complete\", this sage uses Divine Names, the \"Light of lights\", the \"Secret of secrets\" and the \"Highest Source\" of the universe. Each of these concepts indicates a distinct quality of the Essentially Necessary Being. {"title":"The Qom school and a critique of religious pluralism with special reference to Ayatollah Javadi Amoli's philosophical analysis","authors":"S. Halilović","doi":"10.5937/kom1901001h","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5937/kom1901001h","url":null,"abstract":"In the past few decades, the school in the historic city of Qom has played an important role in directing strategic scientific and cultural developments in Iran and the Islamic world. Scientific and research work in this school has been going on for more than a millennium and has been continuously developed in the light of a close cooperation of representatives of this school and similar, old, schools established in the renowned Islamic learning centres in the city of Medina and in several cities in present-day Iraq, Lebanon and Iran. The famous schools of Islamic philosophy, jurisprudence, and exegesis were founded in Qom, and philosophical disciplines were often given great importance. One of the most influential representatives of the Qom School of Philosophy today is Ayatollah Javadi Amoli. Analysing the content of his books, we will be introduced to the basic guidelines of the philosophical methodology of the Qom school in the case of critique of religious pluralism. Ayatollah Javadi fiercely criticizes the idea of religious pluralism because it has been widely popularized by modern Western thinkers and theologians, though they have never made it sufficiently clear that it is based solely on Kant's, that is, NEO-Kantian, relativism of knowledge. He explains that relativism of knowledge does not mean that there are numerous paths that lead to truth, so that we can say that all people will finally be saved regardless of which path they were on and which religion they belonged to. According to his analysis, relativism of knowledge means that no one can reach the truth and that the truth is not revealed in any religion. Ayatollah Javadi warns that religious pluralism solves the problems of salvation and tolerance in a destructive way, because we will be forced to accept philosophical principles that completely discredit the essence of religious knowledge. To prove it thoroughly, he analyses various meanings of relativity and relativism. However, his innovative approach to exploring history is what he is particularly famous for. He decided to correct, substantially and seriously, the historiographical method advocated by many generations of historians before him, as well as by some of his contemporaries, such as al-Tabari. He deemed that history could not be viewed in isolation from other related scientific disciplines. In his opinion, a historian must be well aware of geographical and natural features of the region he wants to write about, to obtain thorough information of the conceptual and cognitive platform on which its inhabitants based their beliefs, the culture and demographic specificities of the people, and many other details. Only then will he be able to recognize the essence of historical events, and, above all, the purpose and direction of social trends. Ya'qubi paid close attention to political, financial, military and other social turmoil in history. He reported on them very accurately. Yet, he still believed that all those elements were in fact the consequence of a more serious and fundamental factor, cultural history.
