The intensity values of palmprint images are first normalized by using their mean and their standard deviation. The normalized images are then transformed to the spectral domain by using wavelet transform and lowest frequencies are selected by filtering. Next, the feature vectors are formed with KPCA method which divergences samples on the nonlinear space. Finally, weighted Euclidean distance based nearest neighbor method is realized for palmprint classification. Experiments are performed on the most-well known public palmprint database, PolyU, includes 600 samples of 100 different persons.","PeriodicalId":315147,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE 15th Signal Processing and Communications Applications","volume":"172 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115179957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Normalization was done by first finding an invariant set whose expression levels do not change significantly among the chips and then using this set to normalize raw probe values with a smoothing spline invariant set normalization method. Genes with significant change in expression were identified using the lower confidence bound of fold change and these genes were used to perform functional analyses within the context of Gene Ontology categories and biological pathways. Our results indicate that genes with altered expression levels are cell-type specific, activated biological categories are mostly developmental related such as skeletal and muscular system and genes dysregulated in both cell types effect cAMP dependent PKA pathway and consequently the CREB cycle.","PeriodicalId":315147,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE 15th Signal Processing and Communications Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116082727","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When the source-relay channel information is not available at the destination, the RS technique does not exploit user diversity efficiently. The proposed solution of this problem in the literature is that the relays monitor all channels \"end-to-end\" and the mobile unit with the highest channel gain informs the destination and other relays. This is called path selection and is not a practical solution, since, each relay mobile unit consumes additional power for monitoring, synchronization and protocol overhead. In this paper, we propose an alternative solution in that each mobile unit quantizes its partial source-relay channel information and transmits to the destination. Since the destination is usually a base station, power consumption and synchronization is not a problem. Proposed method provides important performance gains with a few feedforward bits. New path selection algorithm does not require relay monitoring of all paths, and eliminates synchronization and protocol overhead.","PeriodicalId":315147,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE 15th Signal Processing and Communications Applications","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125312980","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We model the rare event as an AR signal superposed on a background signal. The activation and deactivation times of the AR-signal are unknown. The additional parameter of the state represents the AR-signal, which is zero when deactivated. The proposed excision algorithm is developed for chirp-type signals that have broadband frequency characteristics. It is based on the time-frequency analysis of received signals. To analyze the interference, STFT of the received signal is computed and thresholded. The interference detection is followed by an inverse-STFT computation to estimate the high power jamming signal. The estimated jammer is then subtracted in time domain before demodulation. Simulations present adequate interference estimation results with mean estimation errors less than 0.01%. Various scenarios with different jammer-to-signal ratios (JSRs) and signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) vs. bit error rates (BERs) are presented for single and multi-component chirp signals. Interference excision algorithms improve the system performance more than an order of magnitude.","PeriodicalId":315147,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE 15th Signal Processing and Communications Applications","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-06-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123564597","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
