In the plant growth conditions, the morphological structure of plant was determined by the dynamic interaction of hybrid genetic characteristics and growth environment factors. We propose a new approach to the structural modeling of corn. In this study, we parameterized each organ of corn based on morphological structural characteristics, and using these parameters as the driven parameters of growth model to generate the 3D plant model. Although the algorithm was established on corn, it can be easily adapted to other crops such as grain sorghum and wheat.","PeriodicalId":315124,"journal":{"name":"2006 Second International Symposium on Plant Growth Modeling and Applications","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116695255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For ink-wash landscape painting simulated with 3D techniques, the significance is to open a new window for creation and aesthetics of Chinese landscape painting. We can research and explore Chinese landscape painting with digital technique, and adopt digital 3D space as a creating platform and medium of the ink-wash landscape. These researches include: texture techniques of Chinese ink-wash painting style; dynamic cloud, fog and water; the dynamic trees based on the wind dynamics and growth principle. The modeling technique of landscapes and trees based on Chinese ink-wash painting also enriches the expression ways of computer graphics, and it helps to explore a new joint point between the art and science.","PeriodicalId":315124,"journal":{"name":"2006 Second International Symposium on Plant Growth Modeling and Applications","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114323682","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Simulation models support decisions by scenario analysis, which display the consequences of management options with respect to decisive system variables. While elsewhere plantations for intensive wood-production are separated from forests for conservation, in European forests a multitude of functions is integrated. This concept requires models, which quantify the ecological, economical, and social consequences of treatment options. The required information can be delivered by hybrid models, which are on the one hand simple enough with respect to input data, driving variables, and application, on the other hand sufficiently mechanistic in order to display matter and energy flow. Recommendations are given for a convergence of empirical and mechanistic models, for integration of models into the information flow of management, and for a successful transfer of scientific knowledge to end-users.","PeriodicalId":315124,"journal":{"name":"2006 Second International Symposium on Plant Growth Modeling and Applications","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134638009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, their use in complex canopies implies complicated adaptations as well as simplifying assumptions that are difficult to validate. Alternatively, the ARCHIMED simulation platform uses 3D virtual stands as a support for numerical simulations of biophysical processes such as leaf irradiation, transpiration and temperature and ultimately carbon assimilation. By doing so, detailed information can be integrated from the individual leaf scale up to the individual plant scale, even within complex stands such as agroforestry systems. Simple numerical methods are used for solving multiple feedbacks between light, energy, water and CO2 transfers at leaf, plant and plot scales. Numerical calculations applied at different scales allow simple implementation of complex models involving intricate processes.","PeriodicalId":315124,"journal":{"name":"2006 Second International Symposium on Plant Growth Modeling and Applications","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133719770","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fruit set also varies between plants. This research aimed to improve simulation of fruit set in a process-based crop growth model by inserting a probability function for abortion. This probability is based on source and sink strength and introduces variation between plants. In a greenhouse experiment, flowering date and abortion (or harvest) of all fruits were recorded. Fruit set was analysed with a Generalised Linear Model, with source and sink strength as explanatory variables. The resulting function was inserted into a crop growth model. The model quite well simulated the timing in fruit set, although the amplitude was not always accurate. Simulating fruit set stochastically looks promising. However, more experiments are needed to make the function biologically sound.","PeriodicalId":315124,"journal":{"name":"2006 Second International Symposium on Plant Growth Modeling and Applications","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116633239","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These conceptual hypotheses cannot be fully evaluated without a plant growth simulation model and consequently, the discussion about adequacy of plant-defence hypotheses neglects to a large extent the dynamics of plant growth. To get a more realistic view of the volatile dynamics of plant internal source and sink strengths of carbon and nitrogen during different phenological growth stages, a modelling approach for allocation of carbohydrates to a pool of carbon-based secondary compounds was integrated into the functional generic plant growth model PLATHO. In this paper, we explain the fundamental assumptions of our modelling approach and present the results of a simulation study for juvenile beech and spruce trees growing in mono- and mixed cultures under ambient and elevated atmospheric CO2.","PeriodicalId":315124,"journal":{"name":"2006 Second International Symposium on Plant Growth Modeling and Applications","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132679008","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is based on stochastic L-systems (parallel rewriting grammars) and on multi-type branching processes: stochastic processes control bud productions and at each growth cycle, each new growth unit is the result of a random variable. This formalism allows determining inductively the generating functions of the resulting plant structures and of the numbers of organs, which fully characterizes the plant development resulting from the elementary stochastic processes of bud productions. The moments of the stochastic distributions of the numbers of organs are also explicitly deduced.","PeriodicalId":315124,"journal":{"name":"2006 Second International Symposium on Plant Growth Modeling and Applications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130660035","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the difficulty to predict the distribution of laterals severely hampers root system architecture analysis. A Markov chain approach was adopted to characterize the succession of laterals along the mother root axis, using data collected from studies with contrasting P supplies and with different degrees of compaction of growth substrate. The main findings were that successive lateral roots were generally separated by a minimum inter-lateral distance, and neither compaction of root medium nor the phosphorus availabilities affected the distance and succession pattern of lateral roots along the main roots. The results from the Markov chain model were consistent with the findings by other researchers using different approaches. Further study with similar approach but considering local variation of soil chemical and physical conditions should give more insight into the plasticity of root system architecture.","PeriodicalId":315124,"journal":{"name":"2006 Second International Symposium on Plant Growth Modeling and Applications","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123906769","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is also an important base of the research of land-use/land-cover change (LUCC), as well as pre-processing of monitoring of forest health and simulation of dynamic evolution of natural vegetation landscape. A land classification system is established in view of the research region and the interrelated LULC standards in this paper, then the edit layers of SPOT 5 HRS images with 3 wave bands are fused using software eCognition 4.0. And then applying the eCognition object-oriented classification method, the precise classification chart of the LULC is obtained through interactive experiments on eCognition 4.0. Thus the LULC map is presented. The map includes six classifications of cultivation, grassland, woodland, aquatic area, construction land, and unused land. So this work has certain significance to the research and development ofRS and GIS further integration.","PeriodicalId":315124,"journal":{"name":"2006 Second International Symposium on Plant Growth Modeling and Applications","volume":"273 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-11-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121412918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
