This underscores the essential role that education plays in people’s lives. As a fundamental human right, education occupies the fourth spot in the sustainable development goals, which aim to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all and promote lifelong learning opportunities. For decades, governments and multilateral donor agencies have expended resources to meet society's educational expectations. In Nigeria, these efforts have not produced the desired outcomes. With approximately 10.5 million children out of school as of January 2022, Nigeria remains among the nations with the highest rates of out-of-school children. Leveraging a combination of a survey, document analysis, and a critical review of extant literature, this paper argues that the efforts of governments and other multilateral donor agencies to eradicate the challenge of out-of-school children are, at best, false generosity. The study, therefore, re-emphasizes the need for the media to rediscover its social responsibility function and leverage the traditional media of flyers, handbills, posters and community radio in communicating the need for formal education and consequently ebb the tide of out-of-school children in Nigeria.","PeriodicalId":31508,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education and Educational Development","volume":"36 50","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141354065","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This three week program was framed in contrast of traditional schooling, intending as enrichment and not remediation, for science group students’ practices in mathematics. The study was framed through formative experiment research method and practiced at public sector Higher Secondary School Jehangira district Swabi, aiming to explore the advantages and hazards of PBL model when applied in BL environment. The data was collected through an open ended self-developed questionnaire and was analyzed by using simple frequency distribution. The results achieved were mostly positive such as students found productive PBL approach through WhatsApp application like solving examples helped them in solving other problems, course work was completed timely, and using smart phone with peers in groups helped in better understanding the problems. But showed some concerns such as poor availability of network/internet services or non-affordability of having smart phone or internet packages, and parents showed unwillingness for using smart phone/internet. On the basis conclusion, it was suggested that these issues can be resolved by teaming up with parents alongside convincing head of the institute. \u0000 ","PeriodicalId":31508,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education and Educational Development","volume":"1 4","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141350198","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study focuses on researching the effects this transition had on parents by measuring their satisfaction levels. The instrument used to collect quantitative data for this study includes categories, school-level technological support, school-level instructional support, curricular programs, social interaction and overall satisfaction with the online education. Differences of parental satisfaction in these categories and the factors that influence them such as school fee, educational levels of parents and number of enrolled children per family have been studied. The findings revealed that parents are satisfied given the challenges and hurdles that schools have faced and are still facing in transitioning from on-campus to online education. A few significant differences were found between number of children enrolled in online education and parental satisfaction with technological support as well as social interaction. Significant differences were also found between school fee and parental satisfaction with curricular programs. These findings provide us with future directions for further research","PeriodicalId":31508,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education and Educational Development","volume":"121 44","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141351864","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A sample of 388 students,194 male and 194 females was drawn through convenient sampling from the Public and Private universities of Karachi in Pakistan, using a cross sectional design. Test anxiety was assessed through Westside Test Anxiety Scale and emotional intelligence was assessed using The Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale. Performance of the last two semesters attended by the students was used to assess academic performance and demographic information was gathered through the demographic form. The “Pearson Product Correlation” was calculated to find the relation between test anxiety and emotional intelligence and academic performance. t-test for independent sample was used to obtain the differences in test-anxiety and emotional intelligence and gender in Public and Private sector university students’ academic performance on the respective variables. The results revealed an inverse relationship between test-anxiety and emotional intelligence, academic performance. However, the results showed a positive relation between emotional intelligence and academic performance. Gender differences were found in test anxiety but not in emotional intelligence. The students of both the sectors differed in test anxiety, whereas both the groups did not differ on the scores of emotional intelligences. It is incumbent on educational institutes to provide psychological services to students who find hard to handle exam situation in the same way as financial assistance is provided to those who need it.","PeriodicalId":31508,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education and Educational Development","volume":"20 8","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141354679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In a complex education system, like Pakistan, studying the difference in isolation may not generate holistic understanding. Therefore, this paper investigates changes in trends of gender differences within public and private schools. Data were gathered from nationwide representative students (n=15,391) of elementary grades using SATs/MATS. The results of independent t-test and two-way-ANOVA revealed that girls significantly outperformed boys in Science; girls came at par in Mathematics. Gender and school system demonstrated significant interaction effect only in mathematics unveiling that girls can perform better/equal to boys in same school system.","PeriodicalId":31508,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education and Educational Development","volume":"61 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141350294","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of this study was to assess the ecological literacy of future teachers in terms of the information, attitudes, and behaviors they possess. The methodology employed in this investigation was a quantitative one. A convenient selection sample of 325 graduate aspiring educators at Lahore's 13 public universities enrolled in teacher education programs was chosen. Two tools were employed in this investigation. The survey was broken up into two sections. Section A contains fundamental demographic information, while Section B is subdivided into Environmental Knowledge (EK), Environmental Attitudes (EA), and Environmental Behaviors (EB) categories, respectively. This study found that prospective educators have a moderate level of ecological literacy. The survey found that male prospective teachers were more literate than their female counterparts, but there was no discernible gender gap in environmental literacy. Future educators do have favorable perspectives and actions toward the environment. No significant gender differences in prospective teachers' attitudes or actions were discovered. It is suggested that colleges and universities that prepare future educators must include environmental studies.","PeriodicalId":31508,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education and Educational Development","volume":"61 10","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141353454","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It specifically employs Michel Foucault’s (1977) ideas on Governmentality to interpret the envisioning of performance management in this context at the level of Policy. Drawing upon Michel Foucault’s (1991) ideas on governmentality, a discourse analysis of Performance Management Policy documents is conducted with the goal of critically interrogating what is unquestionably a new academic subjectivity in the South African higher education sector- a subjectivity that is constantly controlled and regulated. We argue that performance management should take into stronger cognizance the matters of choice, voice, and multiplicity of roles within its discourses. There is much we can learn from governmentality theory if we hope to build more just and equitable societies going forward.","PeriodicalId":31508,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education and Educational Development","volume":"88 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141352847","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study used two main methods of research, a survey including 4 questions and a 5-point Likert scale with 4 statements, and an interview with a Head of Educational Technology. This was done in a large K-12 bilingual school in Shanghai, China. Some key findings included: 92% of teachers knew what breakout rooms are; almost 3 times the percentage of teachers agreed (59%) that breakout rooms are viable in online learning as opposed to disagreed (17%); double the percentage of teachers disagreed (24%) that breakout rooms are too problematic to use as opposed to agreed (48%); 81% of teachers agreed that they need to know more activities for use with breakout rooms; and 79% of teachers agreed they needed to know how to better expose students to breakout rooms. There was a significant correlation between the Primary and Secondary phases; the interview responses backed up this data and the correlation. The four main fed back methods of using breakout rooms were: Group presentations, Group and pair discussions, Differentiated learning and Group research.","PeriodicalId":31508,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education and Educational Development","volume":"17 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141350695","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This qualitative multisite case study was conducted with schools under the administration and management of Christians and Ismailies.   A semi-structured interview guide was used as a tool for data collection purposes. The data were transcribed and coded for the construction of themes.  Themes such as teacher preparation and performance, communication with parents, a learning-conducive environment, curricula supporting activities and continuous professional development were constructed from the data analysis. The study findings reveal that schools have adopted various strategies to facilitate and support students' learning. However, the primary focus seems to be on cognitive development, often at the expense of paying adequate attention to physical, social, and emotional development. Hence the study suggests that assumed and expressed needs of students in areas other than the cognitive domain should be considered pivotal by the school for a safe and peaceful society. The study also suggests that the application of care in a practical sense is the need of the times and should be made a systemic reality for all schools in Pakistan. \u0000 ","PeriodicalId":31508,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education and Educational Development","volume":"52 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138595073","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The research employed a descriptive method and adopted a quantitative approach. For this study, 248 head teachers were selected from public schools and 126 from Punjab Education Foundation Funded Schools via simple random sampling, making a total sample of 374 respondents. Data were collected using a five-response Likert scale and analyzed with SPSS, including mean, standard deviation, t-test, and f-test to assess the difference between administrators' supervisory and teachers' pedagogical skills towards quality education in both school types. The study concluded that administrators in public secondary schools exhibited better academic and professional qualifications and that both administrators' supervision and teachers' pedagogical skills were superior in public schools. Additionally, public schools were more aligned with the Minimum Quality Standards for Schooling to meet the vision of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG-4) by 2025 for quality education compared to Punjab Education Foundation Funded Schools. It is recommended that the heads of Punjab Education Foundation-funded schools enhance their supervisory skills, while teachers should improve their pedagogical skills to align with the vision of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG-4) by 2025.","PeriodicalId":31508,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Education and Educational Development","volume":"23 7","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"138596503","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
