This study is about a history on the transition from subsistence to cash crop farming in Abogeta Sub-County in Meru County, Kenya, from 1937-1980. The main economic activity of the people in Abogeta Sub County is farming and keeping livestock. Before 1937 farming practices were mainly for subsistence. Crops grown included millet, sorghum, peas, arrowroots, yams, beans and cowpeas. However many changes have occurred in the agricultural sector by 1937. Guided by Anthony Giddens’ “Structuration Theory” in exploring the social processes associated with oil-induced displacement, a cross-sectional survey research design was adopted. A mixed method approach was further employed to collect data using questionnaires, focus group discussion (FGD) guides, and key informant interview (KII) guides. Both quantitative and qualitative analysis was performed through Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 21 and Nvivo, respectively. The study found that the displaced households experienced loss of land for cultivation, and grazing, loss of social infrastructure, loss of residences, and overall loss of their livelihoods. The study concludes that oil-induced displacement, as a category or cause of development-induced displacement, is associated with adverse environmental, human-social, economic, and physical livelihood vulnerabilities for the affected populations. Therefore it is recommended that the government of Kenya should contemplate passing a law that necessitates compensation for affected victims in the line of development.

The study covers the period from 1895 to 1961. The study discussed the Samburu traditional land tenures systems and exploitation of resources. It examined Samburu subsistence production. This study used two theories to achieve the set objectives. It utilised Carl Marx’s theory of political economy, which postulates that it is common ends that govern human relations. It is economic structure also referred to as substructure that provides the basis for the society on which the superstructure is built upon. The constituents of the superstructure are found on the analysis to reflect the interest of the dominant class. The study also uses Articulation theory of producing modes of production as advanced by Lonsdale and Bruce. Articulation theory is relevant to the study as it links the Samburu pastoralist pre-capitalist subsistence system of production to British Colonial State capitalist system of production. This study used both primary and secondary sources. The method selected to carry out this study was qualitative research method. The semi-structured questions were used in the interview. Data was analysed, categorized according to topics and subtopics. It was interpreted, written down and finally presented. The research findings will contribute to the historiography of pastoralism in Kenya.

Three PCEA regions were selected using the multistage cluster sampling technique. A proportional sampling technique was used to get PCEA Presbytery moderators, church elders, Parish ministers and youth members. The youth who are abusing alcohol and drugs were identified through the snowball sampling technique. Purposive sampling was used to select the Youth Director. A descriptive survey research design was used to obtain qualitative data. Instruments for data collection were questionnaires, structured interview schedules and focus group discussions. Data were analyzed qualitatively and presented in summary form using frequency tables and discussions. The study established that the reasons for the prevalence of alcohol and drug abuse among the youth in the PCEA are peer influence, curiosity and easy availability of alcohol and drugs. The strategies used by PCEA in addressing alcohol and drug abuse include seminars and workshops (56%), bible studies (31%), alcoholic forums (44%), youth camps and conferences (56%), rallies and crusades (43%), guidance and counselling programmes (45%), youth engagement in community work (71%) and having a drug education desk (30%). The study recommends that the Church should reassess the strategies with the aim of making them more effective. The youth should be involved in the management of the strategies.

Stress affects an individual's physical and mental health, performance and interpersonal relationships. This study involved a survey of 100 non-teaching staff of the Njoro Campus. A proportionate random sample was obtained after the stratification of employees by cadre and gender. The questionnaire was done, and necessary modifications were implemented before the actual data collection. Data on employee personal traits, job cadre, educational background, attitude to work and stress coping strategies were collected using a questionnaire and self-report test. Data collected were analysed by use of descriptive and inferential statistics. The research found that the level of interaction between the two cadres of employees of Egerton University is good; hence, stress has a significant effect on job performance and interpersonal relationships among the employees. There is a need to establish a staff-support centre at the University, where employees can be offered emotional and psychological support through professional counselling.

The Roman Catholic Church has been a leading voice in opposing the use of pharmaceuticals outside of medical necessity in every society it has encountered. The Roman Catholic Church has taken a hard-line approach against drug legalisation, including recreational drugs. On the contrary, in Igembe Deanery, the Meru Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church, a contentious drug that many consider a drug, khat (Miraa) production and use is tolerated. The study employed a descriptive research design. Data were obtained from questionnaires, oral interviews, focus group discussion, participant observation, and primary and secondary sources to ensure the reliability and validity of the study. The study’s findings were that the economic, social, cultural, religious, and educational benefits of Miraa in Igembe Deanery are all the reasons for the Roman Catholic Church in Igembe Deanery to tolerate Miraa farming, trade and consumption in the study area. This study concludes that Miraa production and consumption in Igembe Deanery in Meru Diocese is due to its huge social, economic, and religious benefits to the local people.

The study adopted a mixed method. Data was collected by means of random sampling. 10 people were interviewed on the topic. Among them were 2 youths, 3 elderly men, and 5 women. Questionnaires were also used to corroborate the findings of the interviews. Several members with email addresses were sent questionnaires, while others were given directly to the respondents on a particular Sabbath. There were 17 electronic respondents and 25 verbal respondents then; the rest were hard copy respondence Totalling 148 people. The result of this program is that it has proved successful and, if implemented, can benefit other churches that would like to grow and revive spiritually. It resulted in reaching out evangelism to neighbours and an increase in membership. They have a strong culture of Bible study, intercessory prayers, intermediation, and fasting. Members have been acquainted with the 28 Fundamental Beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and are now well established in the church and its mission. As a result, there is a deeper renewal of commitment to God. Intercessory prayers should be encouraged at all levels of the church’s activities. Additionally, Bible study should be encouraged at all program levels in the church. Also, there should be regular seminars held in the church to keep a reminder to believers of their weak points in faith. \u0000 \u0000 \u0000 \u0000
