Specifically, CASTNET measures sulfate and nitrate dry deposition and meteorological information at approximately 88 monitoring sites, primarily in the East. Two additional sites are planned as part of a multi-year network refurbishment and modernization project . These sites are scheduled to be in operation by 2007 and will help fill the coverage gap in the middle of country. CASTNET is a long-term dry deposition network funded, operated and maintained by EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation (OAR).
