The proposed text extraction technique first decompose the document image into distinct object planes to extract and separate homogeneous objects including textual regions of interest, non-text objects such as graphics and pictures, and background textures. Then a text extraction procedure is applied to the resultant planes to extract character strings with different characteristics in the corresponding planes. The document image is processed regionally and adaptively according to its local features, and thus detailed characteristics of extracted textual objects can be well-preserved, especially small characters with thin strokes. From the experimental results and comparisons to the existing technique, the proposed approach demonstrates its effectiveness and advantages on extracting character strings with various illuminations, sizes, and font styles from various types of complex document images.","PeriodicalId":314159,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Symposium on Information Technology","volume":"82 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114768960","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These parameters can be determined from the solutions of Reynolds equation numerically using successive over relaxation (SOR) technique. The optimum over relaxation factor was found using a quadratic formula and only one convergence limit had to be satisfied before terminations of the iteration procedure, thus shortening the overall computing time. Results obtained are comparable with at least 90% of accuracy to other researches. This shows that SOR can accurately and effectively predict the stability of a journal bearing.","PeriodicalId":314159,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Symposium on Information Technology","volume":"274 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115998195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unified modeling language (UML) is a standard notation that has been used in modeling the object oriented software systems besides using the programming language such as JAVA C# and C++ in order to develop software’s. In the software developing process, implementation begins after the design phase; likewise both of them can be performed in parallel. Changes during development process have side effects on designing and implementing part of the software. One of the basic side effects is a gap that happens between these two parts. The purpose of this paper is to explain this problem in details and mentioning the usage of the Chidamber and Kemerer metrics, in recognizing the gap between two design and implementation parts.","PeriodicalId":314159,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Symposium on Information Technology","volume":"76 6 Suppl 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116352685","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This Online Islamic Medication Expert Systems (OIMES) focuses on physical and inner illnesses. The knowledge base of the proposed ES shall contain exhaustively the types of illness or sickness together with their related cures or treatments/therapies, obtained exclusively from the Quran and Hadith. Extensive research and study are to be conducted to ensure that the expert system is able to provide the most suitable treatment with reference to the relevant verses cited in Quran or Hadith. These verses come together with their related ‘actions’ (bodily actions/gestures or some acts) to be performed by the patient to treat a particular illness/sickness. These verses and the instructions for the ‘actions’ are to be displayed unambiguously on the computer screen. The online platform provides the advantage to the patient for advising treatment practically anytime and anywhere as long as the computer and internet facilities exist. Patient does not need to make appointment to see an expert for a therapy. She/He may try this alternative method provided the sickness is not that very critical.","PeriodicalId":314159,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Symposium on Information Technology","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122017989","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there is no tool available to assess the complexity of IS integration, before thinking of measuring the success of integration initiative. If we can device a framework that depict the scenario of IS integration in organisation, it will be the first step to assist organisation understanding the IS integration status, whether they are on the right track, knowing what they are lacking of to proceed with integration, and whether they are using the right technology as solution to their integration problems. Thus, a construction of complexity model that depict the IS integration scenarios is proposed to assist in assessment of IS integration project.","PeriodicalId":314159,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Symposium on Information Technology","volume":"18 7","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120809645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aims to design a neural network model (NNM) and nonlinear regression model (NLRM) using different architectures and parameters incorporating time series, location and rainfall data to define the best architecture for early prediction of dengue outbreak. Four architecture of NNM and NLRM were developed in this study. Architecture I involved only dengue cases data, Architecture II involved combination of dengue cases data and rainfall data, Architecture III involved proximity location dengue cases data, while Architecture IV involved the combination of all criterion. The parameters studied in this research were adjusted for optimal performance. These parameters are the learning rate, momentum rate and number of neurons in the hidden layer. The performance of overall architecture was analyzed and the result shows that the MSE for all architectures by using NNM is better compared by NLRM. Furthermore, the results also indicate that architecture IV performs significantly better than other architecture in predicting dengue outbreak and it is therefore proposed as a useful approach in the problem of time series prediction of dengue outbreak.","PeriodicalId":314159,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Symposium on Information Technology","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124066846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Utilizing the multiple degrees of freedom offered by the data glove for each finger and the hand, a novel online signature verification technique using Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) for signature classification and verification is presented. The proposed technique is based on the SVD in finding r-singular vectors sensing the maximal energy of glove data matrix A, called principal subspace, and thus account for most of the variation in the original data, so the effective dimensionality of the data can be reduced. Having identified data glove signature through its r-principal subspace, the authenticity is then can be obtained by calculating the angles between the different subspaces. In this paper we try to ponder a significant analysis of accuracy and performance of dynamic signature identification and verification using data glove with reduced number of sensors from 14 to 5 to achieve a significant level of accuracy. The SVD-based signature verification technique is appears to be promising with the best combination of selected 5 prominent sensors instead of select all the 14-seonsor based data sets and the best performance is shown to be able to produce 2.33% of Equal Error Rate (EER).","PeriodicalId":314159,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Symposium on Information Technology","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130042461","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The estimator, unlike others, performs noise power estimation at the front-end of the receiver. The proposed estimator is compared with previously published SNR estimators — none of which are front end estimator. The estimator makes use of two identical halves property of time synchronization preamble used in WiMAX systems [IEEE802.16, 2004] and relies on autocorrelation of the same. SUI-Channels are used for simulations in this work. The current estimator is compare with Reddy estimator and Subspace based estimator in terms of normalized mean square error (NMSE) and estimated SNR. It is observed that current estimator gives SNR estimates better than Reddy and subspace estimators. Complexity of the system is decreased because current estimator makes use of one OFDM preamble.","PeriodicalId":314159,"journal":{"name":"2008 International Symposium on Information Technology","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-09-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130675966","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
