Simultaneously, research has seen an upsurge. In this chapter we argue that this focus on circulating matter is welcome, but that the practice of Circular Economy, might greenwash destructive industrial modern production. Current research into Circular Economy is mainly done at a large industrial scale, thereby focusing on re-circulating waste into resources. We propose that research needs also to be done on a more human, down to earth, scale in which forms of Social Entrepreneurship and Ecopreneurship might help show how to organize transitional agency towards living within planetary boundaries. From this perspective decentralized and small-scale solutions can be illuminated that will be part of re-designing systems, making circular flows not only focusing on waste, but also display choices about what matter could circulate more and what should not.","PeriodicalId":313756,"journal":{"name":"A Research Agenda for Social Entrepreneurship","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116713202","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, there remain numerous new directions and paths less travelled for exploring the varied and complex SE terrain. This book draws together sixteen chapter contributions from developing paths of the SE field, to sign-post directions ahead. In this chapter we integrate and build on these rich insights, paving the way for a future research agenda to advance the maturing SE field. While some scholars suggest that mainstream entrepreneurship theories are suffi-cient to explain SE (Dacin et al. 2010), the field has been enriched by the application of different disciplinary approaches including management, public administration, economics, sociology, public health, and development studies. Up to this point methods have been predominately qualitative, arguably reflecting what a decade ago was characterised as a ‘pre-paradigmatic’ stage of field development (Nicholls 2010a), ranging from macro-studies of policy ecosystems to ethnographies. Economic theories have sought to SE while realist evaluations al. 2017) and systematic reviews 2018; Roy 2014) have been used to understand the impact of SE. Signs are emerging that scholars (and governments) are beginning to amass the datasets necessary for large-scale quantitative analysis While many authors use the terms social innovation, entrepreneurship and enterprise almost interchangeably, other scholars have focused on differentiating between them","PeriodicalId":313756,"journal":{"name":"A Research Agenda for Social Entrepreneurship","volume":"219 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115588329","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article discusses findings from applied research in Tasmania, Australia, that aimed to understand whether social enterprises were present, what distinguished them as a sector, and the kinds of development roles they sought to play. Findings revealed that numerous Tasmanian organisations identified as social enterprises yet these organisations shared no common organisational structure, development mission or industry. Rather, what they shared was a common approach to addressing local development issues: one that involved crossing boundaries and working across sectoral silos to leverage resources and support.","PeriodicalId":313756,"journal":{"name":"A Research Agenda for Social Entrepreneurship","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129324614","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
