{"title":"An Efficient and Secure Directed Diffusion in Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks","authors":"Jayasree Sengupta, S. Ruj, S. Bit","doi":"10.1145/3243318.3243320","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1145/3243318.3243320","url":null,"abstract":"Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks (IWSNs) are an extension of the Internet of Things paradigm that integrates smart sensors in industrial processes. However, the unattended open environment makes IWSNs vulnerable to malicious attacks, such as node compromise in addition to eavesdropping. The compromised nodes can again launch notorious attacks such as the sinkhole or sybil attack which may degrade the network performance. In this paper, we propose a lightweight, Secure Directed Diffusion (SDD) protocol. The algorithm for the proposed protocol uses bilinear pairing to derive a location-based key (LK) by binding the ID and geographic location of a node, thereby ensuring neighborhood authentication. Thus, authenticated nodes can prevent eavesdropping, node compromise including sinkhole and sybil attacks while ensuring confidentiality, authenticity, integrity with reduced latency. Finally, through security analysis, we prove that basic security is maintained and above-mentioned attacks are also prevented. We also compute storage, computation and communication overheads which show that SDD performs at least 2.6 times better in terms of storage overhead and at least 1.3 times better in terms of communication overhead over the other state-of-the-art competing schemes for attack preventions in WSN domain.","PeriodicalId":313677,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1st International Workshop on Future Industrial Communication Networks","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130773173","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

New services will become affordable, new solutions will be possible, but there are also new challenges ahead. Previously, the take up of both IP/Ethernet and IEEE 802.15.4 in the industrial domains, gave a similar boost into the industrial communication. And well before that, the serial fieldbuses made their entrance into industrial systems, and these installations are to a large extent still in use. The ongoing development of Ethernet TSN (Time Sensitive Networks) and 5G (the next generation telecommunication standard), supported by technologies like AI (Artificial Intelligence) will be the third major evolution phase for industrial communication, and it will highly impact the future industrial communication the next years to come. In this talk I will analyze the applications that can make benefit of TSN and 5G, and what the main challenges are to reach them. The talk will also address what we should learn from the two previous evolution phases and how that will influence the future connectivity research and development. Additionally, the traditional industries no longer develop everything on their own as they used to do, the development speed and business climate instead emphasize collaborations with partners, academia and startup companies. Some examples on how this can be accomplished will also be presented.","PeriodicalId":313677,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1st International Workshop on Future Industrial Communication Networks","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126937509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The conventional EA relays are simple low-end stand-alone devices without any data processing and communication capabilities. However, with the effect of digitalization and internet of things, the market trend is towards integrating the plant information with innovative, data-based services. Therefore, the low-end EA relays need to be augmented with smart, light weight communication solution along with the necessary edge computing which can cater to the digitalization requirement. The challenge lies is in providing light weight smart solution for EA relays without major hardware upgrade. The EA relays with the communication module need to be configured appropriately so that they become a part of Substation Automation System. Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs) in the Substation Automation Network are configured as per the IEC 61850-6 standard and configuring these IEDs is an effort consuming job. EA relays with the communication module possess very limited functionality and auto configuration for such modules is of high importance in order to minimize engineering efforts. This paper also describes the auto configuration methodology for the communication module when the module is connected to the Substation Automation Network and each of EA relays are represented uniquely and appropriately in the remote digital platform.","PeriodicalId":313677,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1st International Workshop on Future Industrial Communication Networks","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121051090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The wireless platform will be the Internet of Things, based on existing wireless networking standards (e.g., IEEE 802.11, IEEE 802.15.4) or proprietary wireless technologies. Unlike the use of in-building wireless networks for Internet access, IoT networks for Industrial CPS applications will need to be designed for desired levels of performance. In this talk, after introducing the topic, we will provide insights into the performance of commonly used indoor wireless technologies for IoT, the design of IoT networks, and also glimpses of issues in inference and control over such networks.","PeriodicalId":313677,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1st International Workshop on Future Industrial Communication Networks","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116569350","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Consequently, not only human effort, but chances of errors are also reduced. Moreover, once an intended state is achieved, IBN ensures that it is maintained unless a user requests otherwise. In this paper, we present an industrial perspective of IBN. In particular, we identify several use cases in the context of industrial networks that can potentially benefit from IBN. Subsequently, we propose an architecture of IBN, and elaborate how the different use cases can be realized using it. In addition, we present a case study on the use of intents with a widely used framework. Although, there still are a few challenges along the IBN way, when addressed, IBN can bring down an organization's expenses while improving its efficiency and reliability at the same time.","PeriodicalId":313677,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1st International Workshop on Future Industrial Communication Networks","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124767316","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This modernization also introduced a lot of scope for the different anomalies and attacks on smart meters. Hence to tackle these challenges, we have proposed three anomaly detection algorithms (VBA, HBA, KBA) which are truly based on the principles of Swarm Intelligence (SI). The swarm intelligence is the emerging subbranch of artificial intelligence which studies the collective intelligence of groups of simple agents. The theory is corroborated by its performance in terms of probability of detection and probability of false alarm. The proposed algorithms entrust the probability of detection and probability of false alarm close to 1.00 and 0.17 respectively.","PeriodicalId":313677,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1st International Workshop on Future Industrial Communication Networks","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128136740","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This has led to severe demand-supply imbalances causing grid instability and reliability issues. Towards this end, Demand Reponse (DR) management has been identified as an important means to tackle this problem. Thus, in this paper, a robust Stackelberg Game has been proposed wherein the Utility Provider (UP) and fleet of EVs are assumed to be playing the roles of a competitive leader and followers, respectively. In the considered game, EVs charging problem has been formulated as a non-cooperative game; in which EVs decide their charging slot in accordance with the real-time electricity prices announced by the UP. The existence and uniqueness of the formulated Stackelberg Game has been theoretically proved in the paper. Further, the efficacy of the formulated game has been validated on real-time data traces obtained from Haryana State Electricity Board, India.","PeriodicalId":313677,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 1st International Workshop on Future Industrial Communication Networks","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114564310","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
