Aims and Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the resolution of the lesion, recurrence, and complications in patients treated with the novel modified decompression technique. Materials and Methods: The retrospective study included patients treated with the novel modified decompression technique between 2004 and 2022. The cystic lesions were packed with chlorhexidine acetate gauze dressing (Bactigras), and patients were prescribed a combination of Calcium, Vitamin C, and Vitamin D. Pack was changed periodically until a reduction of at least 80% in the volume of the lesion was achieved. Period of decompression, volume at each follow-up, and lesion size were recorded. In addition, inter-group significance co-relating the size and diagnosis of the lesions with the rate and duration of healing were derived by ANOVA test. Results: OKC, unicystic ameloblastoma, and dentigerous cysts were included, and the follow-up period ranged from one year to eighteen years. 25 cases (83.33%) showed full resolution, whereas five cases (16.17%) showed more than 80% resolution. The period of decompression and the rate of decompression was found to correlate with both the diagnosis and the size of the lesion. Conclusions: The modified decompression technique is superior to traditional decompression with a high rate of resolution of cystic lesions and no recurrence over a long follow-up period.","PeriodicalId":31366,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology","volume":"35 1","pages":"36 - 40"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"46671434","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective: To determine the difference in the vertical position of mental foramen and mandibular foramen in different gender on digital panoramic radiographs using linear measurements. Materials and Methods: A total of 220 subjects were considered for the study. Radiographs were taken with Kodak 8000C Digital Panoramic and Cephalometric machine on Kodak radiographic film in a standardized manner. Linear measurement was done using Kodak 6.12.24 dental software. Results: The mean value of D1, D2, D3, and D4 in males on the left side of the mandible showed 9.72 mm, 17.12 mm, 12.43 mm, and 46.32 mm, whereas females showed 8.47 mm, 15.23 mm, 11.48 mm, and 46.32 mm. Similarly, when the variables D1, D2, D3, and D4 were measured on the right side of the male population, it showed us 10.42 mm, 16.56 mm, 12.11 mm, and 45.87 mm width. Dimensions of all the variables of the females were 8.89 mm, 14.82 mm, 11.71 mm, and 42.88 mm. Conclusion: Mandible is an efficacious tool in sex determination and would be useful to authenticate forensic databases.","PeriodicalId":31366,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135440798","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: A Questionnaire with 15 close-ended questions was circulated to 2000 interns from various dental institutes across India. 1154 interns participated in the study. The response rate was 94.8%. Results: The majority of the interns (48.6%) gained knowledge regarding CBCT from lectures and faculty seminars while 15.3% through conferences. The maximum knowledge mean score was noted from the central zone (7.66 ± 3.8). Demographic variables did not show any signs of the impact of technical knowledge on the applicative knowledge of the study population. Conclusion: This study suggests CBCT be a definitive 3D imaging technology in the maxilla-facial region and awareness regarding the same needs to be increased. There is a need to include CBCT-based information in the undergraduate curriculum to improve knowledge levels.","PeriodicalId":31366,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology","volume":"35 1","pages":"114 - 119"},"PeriodicalIF":0.3,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42835289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
