Método Estudo transversal por web-based survey na população acima de 60 anos que utiliza mídias digitais. A análise descritiva contemplou variáveis sociodemográficas e relacionadas à exposição a informações sobre covid-19; analisou-se um conjunto de sinais e sintomas de alterações psicopatológicas devido a essa exposição. Os dados foram analisados pelos testes Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis e coeficiente de correlação de Spearman. Resultados Participaram da pesquisa 470 pessoas idosas, a maioria na faixa etária de 60 a 69 anos (61,3%), sexo feminino (67,2%), raça/cor branca (71,1%) e com nível superior ou maior escolaridade (41,3%). A exposição às informações sobre covid-19 ocorreu em 89,4% dos respondentes pela televisão e em 71,3%, pelas redes sociais, tendo causado preocupação (76,9%) e medo, tanto da morte de pessoas queridas (76,8%) quanto de adoecer (74%). Esses sinais e sintomas de alterações psicopatológicas estavam presentes em 3,8% das mulheres e 5,9% dos homens, associados à menor nível de escolaridade, diminuição da renda pós-pandemia e ao fato do idoso se sentir afetado pelas notícias sobre covid-19 veiculadas nas redes sociais. Conclusão A infodemia de covid-19 foi associada a alterações psicopatológicas em idosos. Mesmo com o aumento do acesso às redes sociais, a principal fonte de informação dessa população é a televisão. Estratégias de inclusão e alfabetização digitais para a população idosa devem ser pensadas como meio para lidarem com a infodemia de covid-19.","PeriodicalId":31328,"journal":{"name":"Revista Brasileira de Geriatria e Gerontologia","volume":"42 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67329524","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Method A cross-sectional study was carried out of 72 participants aged ≥60 years enrolled at an Open University of the Third Age (U3A) in the interior of Sao Paulo state, Brazil. The variables analyzed were socioeconomic and demographic conditions, social support (Medical Outcomes Study Scale), and family functioning (Family APGAR). The Chi-Square, Mann-Whitney, and Multivariate Poisson Regression tests were used for data analysis, with a significance level of 5%. Results The type of support with the highest mean scores was affectionate (95.1 points) while the lowest was emotional (87.4 points). Family dysfunction rate was 22.2%. For every additional point of affectionate support score, there was a decrease in the probability of presenting family dysfunction (OR=0.96; p=0.001). Conclusion Affectionate support was associated with family functioning. These findings highlight the importance of identifying family structure, dynamics, and relationships in planning comprehensive health care for the older population.","PeriodicalId":31328,"journal":{"name":"Revista Brasileira de Geriatria e Gerontologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67329756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods A cross-sectional study with secondary data from the city's outpatient and inpatient consultation systems. All records from 2019 were used, and Pearson's chi-square test was applied. Results In total, 64,888 older people sought specialized services, generating 113.694 visits (82,8% outpatient visits and 17.2% hospitalizations). It was found that 74.7% of the older adults were referred by primary care for specialized care, with higher percentages of young older people and women (p<0.001). On the other hand, men and older adults aged 80 years or older were referred more frequently for care from hospitals and emergency rooms (p<0.001). Women and older adults between 60 and 79 years old used outpatient centers, physical therapy, rehabilitation centers, dentistry and mental health in greater proportion (p<0.001). The main reasons for using specialized services were diseases of the circulatory system, being more expressive among older adults aged 80 years or older and men (p<0.001). Musculoskeletal diseases (22.5%) were the main reasons for outpatient consultations and, in emergency hospitalizations, diseases of the circulatory system (37.9%). Older adults with a history of outpatient consultations had fewer hospital admissions (p<0.001). Conclusion The need for articulated actions by health services is highlighted, prioritizing the male and long-lived population, focusing on the prevention/control of non-communicable chronic diseases and the vulnerabilities of this stage of life.","PeriodicalId":31328,"journal":{"name":"Revista Brasileira de Geriatria e Gerontologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67329894","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Population-based cross-sectional study with secondary data from the National Health Survey in 2013, totaling 11,697 individuals aged 60 years or older in Brazil. The dependent variable was having suffered violence by a known or unknown aggressor, and the independent variables were divided into blocks (Socioeconomic and demographic; Self-perception and health care; Health service use; Health status/disease and Functioning). The effect of the independent variables on the response variable was expressed by the “Odds Ratio” with a 95% Confidence Interval. Hierarchical models of simple and multiple multinomial logistic regression were performed. In the simple analysis, variables with p-value 0.05 were elective for multiple analysis. A thematic map was constructed according to the spatial distribution of violence, by state. White skin color, 68 years, knowing how to read and write, sleep problems, not feeling pleasure in doing activities and having a physical disability were associated with the unknown aggressor. Poor health, smoking, discrimination in the health service and feeling bad about oneself were associated with the known aggressor. Discrimination by type of illness and little difficulty going, out alone were associated for both aggressors. States with the highest number of cases of violence found were Amapá, Paraná, Mato Grosso, Amazonas and Rio Grande do Norte. Thus, estimating the prevalence of violence against older people, the type of aggressor, as well as associated factors, is essential for identifying and preventing individual, institutional and structural abuse.","PeriodicalId":31328,"journal":{"name":"Revista Brasileira de Geriatria e Gerontologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67329949","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Método Estudo de corte transversal com participantes da avaliação de seguimento do estudo FIBRA (Fragilidade em Idosos Brasileiros) nas cidades de Campinas e Ermelino Matarazzo (SP), Brasil, nos anos de 2016 e 2017. Participaram 187 idosos com 80 anos e mais recrutados em domicílios familiares. O protocolo incluiu a aplicação de um teste de rastreio de deficit cognitivo sugestivo de demência, escala para avaliação das AAVD, a Escala de Lawton e Brody avaliando AIVD, a Escala de Depressão Geriátrica e a Escala de Propósito de Vida de Ryff e Keyes (1995). Resultados Os participantes tinham em média 83,81 (±3,60) anos, 4,38 (±3,76) anos de escolaridade e tinham renda mensal média de 3,49 salários mínimos (±2,61) e 125 (66,8%) eram mulheres. Análises de regressão hierárquica mostraram associações estatisticamente significativas entre PV, sintomas depressivos e pontuação mais alta em AAVD (p=0,003) e sem associação significativa com AIVD (0,580), em modelo ajustado para variáveis sociodemográficas, avaliação subjetiva de saúde, desempenho cognitivo e depressão. Conclusões Os idosos com maior escore de PV e menor número de sintomas depressivos foram mais propensos a realizar AAVD, mas não AIVD, que se associaram à idade, sexo, sintomas depressivos e desempenho cognitivo. Method Cross-sectional study conducted with 419 adults aged 72 years or over (70.2% female) participating in the follow-up survey of the FIBRA Study - Polo Unicamp. Age, sex and educational level were the sociodemographic variables selected as antecedents of the relationship between UI and social participation. A sense of control/autonomy was tested as a mediator of these relationships in a path analysis through structural equation modelling. Results UI was reported by 38% of the sample, with significant differences according to sex (41% female versus 31.3% male). Three levels of social participation were proposed, based on the degree of interaction between the individual and society. The model of relationships explained 15% of the variance in social participation. Direct effects were observed between control/autonomy and social participation; indirect effects between education and participation, mediated by the presence of UI. Conclusion UI contributed to restrictions in social participation at all levels. Control/autonomy, although related, did not prove to be a psychological mediator for the relationship between UI and participation. The presence of UI potentialized the disadvantageous relationships between education and social participation. As modifiable factors, the treatment and management of UI through clinical and psychosocial initiatives can act to reduce negative psychological effects and reduce socioeconomic inequalities in social participation.","PeriodicalId":31328,"journal":{"name":"Revista Brasileira de Geriatria e Gerontologia","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67328913","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods A cross-sectional observational study involving a sample of 4,323 individuals aged 60 years or older that underwent a clinical-functional evaluation was conducted. Sociodemographic and clinical-functional variables were analyzed and compared against the dependent variable of the study: clinical-functional stratum, as measured by the Visual Frailty Scale, dichotomized into frail and non-frail. Univariate logistic regressions were performed and the variables with p-value <0.2 were submitted to multivariate regression by stepwise and forward methods of selecting variables in the equation. Results The potential explanatory value of the model was 70.4%. Seven variables were associated with frailty: age (OR 1.016; 95%CI: 1.001–1.028; p<0.001), dementia (OR 5.179; 95%CI: 3.839–5.961; p<0.001), depressive symptoms (OR 1.268; 95%CI: 1.090–1.475; p=0.002), urinary incontinence (OR 1.330; 95%CI: 1.153–1.535; p<0.001), changes in gait speed (OR 1.483; 95%CI: 1.287–1.709; p<0.001), calf circumference (OR 0.956; 95%CI: 0.932–0.982; p=0.001), and BMI (OR 1.026; 95%CI: 1.008–1.044; p=0.005).
