We sought to determine the role of SCFAs after traumatic brain injury (TBI). We hypothesized that enteral SCFA supplementation would attenuate microglial activation, neuronal death, and improve spatial memory acquisition. Methods: Specific pathogen-free adult C57BL6/J mice were randomized to receive SCFA in drinking water (acetate 67.5mM, propionate 25.9mM, butyrate 40mM) or placebo starting 2 weeks prior to injury and continuing through sacrifice. Mice were subjected to severe controlled cortical impact (CCI; velocity 6m/s, depth 2mm) for behavioral outcome (n=10/group) or moderate CCI (5m/s, 1.2mm) for histologic assessment at 72h (n=6/group). Naïve mice were given SCFA-containing or normal drinking water and served as controls. Outcomes included 72h Iba-1 immunohistochemistry and hippocampal cell count or Morris Water Maze (MWM) performed on post-injury day 14-19 to assess spatial memory acquisition. Data were analyzed by t-test or repeated measure 2-way ANOVA with Bonferonni’s correction as appropriate, with p<0.05 determining significance. Results: At 72h after moderate CCI, SCFA-treated mice had a fewer Iba-1 positive microglia in the ipsilateral hippocampus vs. vehicle (86.0 ± 2.6 vs. 105.6 ± 1.0p<0.05), and a trend towards increased CA1 hippocampal survival (14.2 ± 2.0 vs. 8.8 ± 2.1 cells/0.1mm; p=0.06). After severe CCI, SCFA-treated mice had reduced latency to find the hidden platform in the MWM vs. vehicle-treatment (p<0.05). There were no differences in the probe trial or visual platform testing between CCI groups. There were no differences between naïve mice with vehicle. Conclusions: Peri-insult SCFA administration reduced microglial activation and improved spatial memory acquisition after TBI in mice. Microbiota-produced and/or exogenously administered SCFAs may impact neurological outcome after TBI, and represent a neuroprotective strategy for patients at high risk of suffering TBI. Further studies to evaluate the effect of SCFAs on post-TBI gastrointestinal dysfunction and mechanism(s) of neuroprotection are planned. Usually they consist of dry facts as related in narratives of the Nazi regime victims. In the present paper, these records will be confronted with the picture of Marta Weiss, a fictional camp interpreter presented in the 1948 docudrama The Last Stage by the Polish film director Wanda Jakubowska, herself a former prisoner of the concentration camp in Birkenau. To this day The Last Stage remains a “definitive film about Auschwitz, a prototype for future Holocaust cinematic narratives.” It is also called “the mother of all Holocaust films”, as it establishes several images easily discernible in later narratives on the Holocaust: realistic images of the camp; passionate moralistic appeal; and clear divisions between the victims and the oppressors. At the same time The Last Stage is considered to be an important work from the perspective of feminist studies, as it presents the fate of female prisoners, femininity, labour and motherhood in the camp, women’s solidarity and their resistance to the oppressors. The Last Stage constitutes a unique, quasi-documentary source for the analysis of the role of translators and interpreters working in extreme conditions. Moreover, the authenticity of the portrait of Marta Weiss may not be contested, as it is based on the person of Mala Zimetbaum, a translator and messenger in the Auschwitz camp, killed in 1944 after a failed escape from the camp. The thesis that there was widespread fear of the Apocalypse was under sustained assault by scholars from France, Germany, and Italy (but not, until later, the United States) as early as the 1870s, though. This essay will examine the historiography of this debate as a product of its time by considering the career of the American historian who led the charge against the cultural Romantics – founding member of the Medieval Academy, president of the American Historical Association, and professor at Cornell, George Lincoln Burr. Burr vs. Michelet was a war about the meaning of the nineteenth century, about modernity, but a war fought by proxy through the sources of the tenth and eleventh centuries.","PeriodicalId":312352,"journal":{"name":"The Cambridge Kant Lexicon","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131772360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study found that in almost all spouses of PS men, regardless of the duration of the disease, there is an increased level of neuroticism, which is an unfavorable factor and evidences of pathopersonic transformations attributable to this contingent. For the vast majority of the women under examination, regardless of the duration of their husbands’ disease, a violation of the psycho-emotional sphere in the form of affective anxiety-depressive manifestations are typical, unlike the wives of mentally healthy men. In the structure of depressive response in wives of men with any duration of PS, the ratio of affectivecognitive and somatic symptoms is close, unlike the symptoms of the anxiety circle, in the structure of which the manifestations of \"psychic\" radical significantly outweigh the somatic symptoms. Implantation failures can be caused by changes in the expression of some molecules, referred to as \"implantation markers\", which are expressed by the endometrium and are required for successful interaction between the embryo and endometrium. The purpose of the study was to determine the features of the proteomic profile of the endometrium in women with adenomyosis, depending on their fertility. Material and methods. A comparative immunohistochemical (IGC) analysis of 102 eutopic endometrial specimens from women of reproductive age with adenomyosis and infertility (group I) was performed; from 20 nonpregnant women with adenomyosis who had a history of desired pregnancy and ended in childbirth and did not record episodes of miscarriages (group II), as well as from 30 conditionally gynecologically healthy women who applied for the introduction of an intrauterine system for contraception (control group C). A biopsy of the eutopic endometrium was performed on P+6 day of the menstrual cycle, during the period of the expected implantation window, with the help of aspiration pipel-curette.
