The measurement results are compared with different indoor propagation models in the literature. We observed large estimation errors for the total path loss value from all existing models. Consequently, we are proposing a new indoor propagation model for TVWS frequencies, which concatenates the effects of frequency dependent path loss with penetration losses due to walls and windows. Performance comparison with existing models show that the proposed model achieves superior performance compared to existing models in terms of Root-Mean-Squared Error (RMSE).","PeriodicalId":311896,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Conference on Standards for Communications and Networking (CSCN)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116991908","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, the higher computational resources made available by cloud computing technologies have helped in coping with the tremendous growth of data traffic exchanged within vehicular networks. However, the advanced development of such infrastructure, together with the relentless proliferation of services and applications characterized by heterogeneous and demanding requirements, has led to redefine the way in which cellular-based vehicular networks assist vehicular communications. As an example, Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) is an emerging network paradigm that can be exploited also in vehicular scenarios to foster a more effective and flexible service delivery. Although in literature the migration of vehicular systems towards a MEC-based approach has been already envisaged giving rise to the concept of Vehicular Edge Computing, a not fully investigated aspect is represented by the lack of experimental insights that shed light on the actual feasibility of this emerging network infrastructures. In this paper, we try to fill the gap in this respect by presenting an extensive empirical analysis performed through a vehicular system testbed. In particular, our work aims at providing empirical insights on the advantages that an edge cloud-based service provisioning can enable in comparison to a centralized cloud-based approach. Besides, by focusing only on the transmission of small-sized workload-i.e. with payload comparable to the one produced by In-Vehicle's sensors-this work also aims at evaluating the suitability of different application layer protocols (HTTP, CoAP, and MQTT) in this peculiar context. In the performance analysis, additional aspects have been also considered, including the impact of vehicle's speed as well as scalability issues.","PeriodicalId":311896,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Conference on Standards for Communications and Networking (CSCN)","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127394637","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During the 5G standardization, performance of Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) in the 5G mobile networks was studied. It has been observed that the TCP performance is improved when protocols in the Radio Access Network (RAN) take the TCP behavior into consideration. The authors have been studying TCP ACK filtering that can work well with the link layer protocols in RAN, where the TCP ACKs can be intentionally discarded. It has been shown that proposed methods accomplish good TCP throughput while the number of TCP ACKs is largely reduced. In this paper, the authors tackle a remaining issue: finding the suitable value of “discard ratio”. It is proposed that the suitable value is obtained based on the average number of TCP ACKs transmitted in one transmission time interval. Simulation results demonstrate that the suitable value for the TCP ACK filtering can further improve the TCP performance when the number of mobile stations is small. In addition, it improves both throughput and fairness of the TCP when the number of mobile stations becomes large.","PeriodicalId":311896,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Conference on Standards for Communications and Networking (CSCN)","volume":"135 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115620754","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While Machine Type Communication (MTC) was defined before only for the Evolved Packet System (EPS), new functionality is defined already in 5G Phase 1 that could be utilized also for CIoT in 5G, which officially is part of 3GPP 5G Phase 2. This paper introduces the new features in the 3GPP 5G architecture as well as the protocol enhancements and latest developments on the Machine to Machine Communication (M2M) platform with CIoT to satisfy the network and communication requirement. Based on a traffic accident data collection scenario within the automotive industry under consideration of Vehicle to Everything (V2X) communication, we discuss how an M2M platform can be deployed to fulfill the ultimate objectives of 5G cellular IoT. We consider oneM2M, a global initiative that aims at providing a unique architecture for M2M interoperability as a special form of M2M/IoT platform. We describe how oneM2M platform can be adopted for the traffic accident use case to provide interfaces that facilitate the communication between the vehicle-mounted devices, the V2X Control Function and V2X application server.","PeriodicalId":311896,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Conference on Standards for Communications and Networking (CSCN)","volume":"93 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115666900","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, higher frequency bands are characterized with high path loss attenuation and sensitivity to the blockages. Thus, deployment of dense networks using smaller cell sizes is important for coverage. To this end, in-band wireless relaying can be used to realize smaller cell sizes at reduced backhaul cost. Wireless relaying may however sacrifice capacity because of half-duplex constraint. In this paper, we investigate the performance of the millimeter wave (mmWave) network employing self-backhaul relay nodes and centralized transmission coordination. In particular, we look at the usage of interference cancellation (IC) receivers to enable backhaul uplink multiple access channel (BU-MAC) and full-duplex (FD) access/backhaul transmission which can boost capacity of relaying. Through simulation results we show, that the 5th% E2E throughput is improved by around 90% with BU-MAC scheme and over 120% in FD scheme. The average throughput of relay downlink increases by around 50% and 80% with BU-MAC and FD schemes resnectively.","PeriodicalId":311896,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Conference on Standards for Communications and Networking (CSCN)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128652620","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using SDVN makes the network programmable, virtualized, and partitionable, but also it creates a well-known vulnerability named single-point of failure. Hence we propose to introduce a Blockchain paradigm that enables to certify the transactions and provide anonymity of data in distributed way using miners nodes. To this end, we introduce three levels of controllers: Principal controller (PC), Road Side Units (RSU) and miners. The PC has a global overview of the network like network topology. The RSU is an intermediate between the PC and the miners. We select local controllers acting as miners due to safety and performance. In order to select miners, we propose a Distributed Miners Connected Dominating Set algorithm (DM-CDS). The DM-CDS is a distributed algorithm with a single phase that supports dynamic topology. The selection of miners is based on a function called miner-score which depends on trust parameter particularly trust metric and network parameters such as: the connectivity degree, the average link quality indicator and the rank. The performance of the proposed DM-CDS is evaluated using many scenarios with different parameters like trust metric, node density, node mobility and radio range. The obtained results show the importance of the proposed architecture in terms of number of miners (CDS size) and robustness with different scenarios.","PeriodicalId":311896,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Conference on Standards for Communications and Networking (CSCN)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128008448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, co-existing VLAN/VPNs on top of a common infrastructure may compete for the same physical resources and introduce performance degradation, especially in case of congestion. This paper introduces Flex-Ethernet (Flex-E) and investigates its use as candidate interface solution for facilitating “hard” slicing in transport networks. This study sheds light on how Flex-E together with newly developed techniques like Segment Routing (SR), can enable a dynamic path allocation with strict performance guarantees. Besides, a VNF can be decomposed into multiple sub-functions, and the same type of sub-function can be re-used by multiple VNFs. Therefore, the resources of subfunctions in different vNS requests can be shared and the cost of the substrate network is reduced. So, function decomposition makes the VNF placement problem more flexible and challenging. In this paper, we study the VNF placement problem with function decomposition for vNS, and formulate it as an integer linear programming (ILP) aiming to minimize the total cost of the substrate network. Then, an approach named Placement algorithm based on Function Decomposition (P-FD) is proposed to get a near-optimal solution of this problem. Finally, simulation results show that P-FD can achieve less total cost compared with algorithms in existing.","PeriodicalId":311896,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Conference on Standards for Communications and Networking (CSCN)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123742161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
