Six-degree of freedom trajectory simulation is used in prior to reveal all firing ranges of each firing angle and possible scenarios can be categorized. Some firing range can be achieved by two different firing angles while the others can be achieved by only one firing angle. By having prior knowledge of the firing ranges versus the firing angles, and by employing iterative binary search algorithm and six-degree of freedom trajectory calculation, the method to automatically and iteratively search for a firing angle corresponded to a specified firing range is formed. The method is tested with short range and medium range unguided ground to ground rockets at various firing condition. The results are presented and discussed.","PeriodicalId":311885,"journal":{"name":"2015 Asian Conference on Defence Technology (ACDT)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123963904","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The SEM observations show that the prepared particles are semi-spherical at the size about 60 nm having the narrow size distributions. The nanometer explosives have the same purity and crystal form with the micron-sized explosives. Compared with the micron-sized explosives, the friction sensitivity, impact sensitivity and shock sensitivity of nanometer explosives are obviously by 20%, 40% and 50% respectively. These desirable results are very encouraging and may lead to various potential applications of nanometer explosives in PBXs and CMDB propellants.","PeriodicalId":311885,"journal":{"name":"2015 Asian Conference on Defence Technology (ACDT)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125832946","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conical-scan tracking scheme is used for simplicity of the design and development instead of electronic scanning. Dual polarizations, LHCP and RHCP, have been used to tackle the change of polarization during the approach of the rocket to the ground station and the departure away from it. As a low-cost prototype, main structure of the antenna consists mainly of a COTS parabolic dish, a CNC-machined hyperbolic subreflector and an FR-4 based dual-circularly polarized Microstrip patch feeder. Various dimensions are optimized to reduce blocking ratio to best suit small parabolic dish as well as to achieve optimal beam shape. One RF channel has been dedicated for tracking purposes in order to maximize the scanning rate while the other is solely used for data reception. Tracking rate and accuracy are designed to match with speed of the rocket acquired from the study of Concept of the Operation (CONOP).","PeriodicalId":311885,"journal":{"name":"2015 Asian Conference on Defence Technology (ACDT)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127797557","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In Cyber warfare concept, cyberspace is very logical comparing to the other 4 battlefields including land, water, air, and space. It is almost impossible to identify physical location of hosts in Latitude/Longitude, not even direction or distance from one to another. Traditional boundaries disappear within cyberspace. Moreover, separated activities can be done from many locations via computer network. In this information age, information superiority is translated into combat power. Robust and secure network is significantly needed as a core media for information operation e.g. censoring and sharing. However, Cyber risk environment in the battlefield is not yet clarified. Vulnerability detection, penetration testing, and risk evaluation are parts of network security. Therefore, this paper proposes a cyber-risk evaluation framework that integrates “Network Risk Metric” and “Risk Environment” of military operation together in order to get a better understanding of cyber risk in the battlefield.","PeriodicalId":311885,"journal":{"name":"2015 Asian Conference on Defence Technology (ACDT)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131711486","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most tactical wireless networks are operating in a hostile environment, in which normal network operation cannot be easily achieved. In military operations, tactical wireless networks have high demands for robustness, responsiveness, reliability, availability and security. These requires continuous development of new technologies in order to cope with random behaviours of hostile environment. However, the random behaviour of tactical wireless networks under hostile environment has not been fully understood. This paper provides a survey on current issues, and research challenges in tactical wireless networks due to hostile environment. Several research gaps in performance, security, routing, and management of tactical wireless networks that are needed to be improved, are pointed out to pave the way for future research in this area. This paper provides insight understanding about the issues and trends for future development of tactical wireless networks.","PeriodicalId":311885,"journal":{"name":"2015 Asian Conference on Defence Technology (ACDT)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133047255","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A system that can be deployed virtually anywhere consists of location-aware Android application, Android mobile device(s), and a microcontroller module. By utilizing the Global Positioning System hardware on the mobile device and the spatial database and algorithms, the mobile application can send alerts to the users based on their current locations and the criteria of their missions. This portable system can be used in online mode where an active Internet connection is available, semi-online mode where a Local Area Network is deployed, or offline mode where it is completely self-contained. Using a microcontroller module instead of a computer server gives the system the flexibility and ease of setting up that are much needed in the field. Our experiments in the field showed that the system is suitable for field uses such as ground survey missions. The Location-Based Services along with the spatial algorithm yielded the correct and acceptable results for real use.","PeriodicalId":311885,"journal":{"name":"2015 Asian Conference on Defence Technology (ACDT)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127771372","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The cannon was designed to be mounted on a remotely controlled carrier robot and its main propose was to utilize water impact to defuse explosives usually placed in metal or wooden containers. In the previous design, the firing created a large recoil force, which was likely to damage and/or immobilize the robot. In the new design presented here, the primary objective was to significantly reduce the recoil force by using backward spray near the muzzle, which allowed the cannon to maintain its destructive power without increasing the robot's payload. In this paper, the design process using a combination of Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations and experiments were presented. The combination was nontrivial but essential due to the limited prior knowledge of the employed bullet (for simulations) as well as firing safety regulation and high prototyping cost (for experiments). The final prototype of the cannon was field-tested and shown to be capable of reducing the recoil force to such an extent that the robot was visibly stationary.","PeriodicalId":311885,"journal":{"name":"2015 Asian Conference on Defence Technology (ACDT)","volume":"623 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116078528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using monthly Interim ECMWF Re-Analysis and hourly weather data from Thai Meteorological Department (TMD), the system applies Steadman Method to calculate heat index (HI) and issues warning when the predefined conditions are met. The results show that Thailand's daily temperature distribution is influenced by solar declination. Seasonal effects such as moist air in wet season will also drive up the apparent temperature. The developed HIAS system uses hourly weather data from TMD's weather stations in proximity of 5 air force bases. System tests showed that the system can calculate heat index and provide real-time heat illness risk warning by showing an appropriate color on warning display. The prototype systems can be effectively used to provide a safer working environment for military personnel. While this study focuses on the risk from heat exposure, it also provides a guideline for development of other types of warning systems such as those for heavy precipitation, flash flood, and water overflow.","PeriodicalId":311885,"journal":{"name":"2015 Asian Conference on Defence Technology (ACDT)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127856541","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
