Euphemisms aid in turning impolite utterances into polite ones. This study, therefore, investigates the communicative potentials of euphemisms in the Tiv language and literature. The study discusses formations of euphemisms, classifies euphemisms and explores the effects of euphemisms. Connotative theory of meaning has been deployed in this study because the interpretation of euphemisms is contextually and connotatively loaded. Methodologically, the author used primary and secondary materials. The author used a participant-observation tool for data collection. Being a native speaker of the Tiv language, the author collected, translated and classified euphemisms. Secondary materials were sourced from textbooks, journal articles, online sources and dictionaries. The following findings were made: euphemisms constitute phrasal or idiomatic synonyms; they beautify or spice our daily communication; they can becloud meanings. This study will benefit preachers, writers, lecturers/teachers, researchers, semanticists, public speakers, politicians and students.","PeriodicalId":311378,"journal":{"name":"African Social Science and Humanities Journal","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124696499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although several studies have explored this claim further, most of their analytic portions have substantially surfaced the plausible causal link between other indicators and these nations' economic decline. This emphasis gives impetus to claims of a deliberate attempt by researchers not to posit causal relationships between women's inadequate economic opportunities and their respective nations' dwindling economies. In this regard, there are sketch speculations that any debate about women's role in a given African nation's economic growth is likely to be divided into arguments around their work efficiency. Within such debates, narratives around the responsiveness of such nations’ governance systems to women, and their inherent societal norms, can be chiefly dialectical. By calling attention to issues limiting women’s contributions to economies, this article demonstrates how increased investment in women’s economic empowerment brings forth a positive impact on the economy. It borrows from Galtung’s structural form of violence and Barnett and Hyde’s expansionist theory in deriving an eclectic mix of expositions to support this position. . Based on these expositions, it concludes that discriminatory social norms and practices, and inadequate legislation, are the main impediments to women’s economic empowerment. It proposes, in light of this conclusion, the need to delegitimize norms and ideas that perpetuate women's disempowerment and suggests that it can be achieved, through advocacy and policy interventions, which are context-specific.","PeriodicalId":311378,"journal":{"name":"African Social Science and Humanities Journal","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130376191","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The essence is to examine how public safety is influenced by public administration. The study was necessitated by the poor nature of public safety in the study area. A quantitative research design was used for the study. Three basic objectives guided the study and accordingly three research questions were raised. The population consised of citizens residing in Awka town the capital of Anambra state. A sample of 150 respondents was drawn using a print questionnaire titled Public Administration and Public Safety Questionnaire (PAPUSQ). The questionnaire Cronbach-Alpha reliability index was 0.82 which is indicative of high reliability and simple percentage was used to analyse the three research questions that guide the study with 50% as bench mark. Results indicated that nature of public safety in the state is rather poor. Many citizens do not enjoy the dividends of good governance. In the same manner, the study discovered that one of ways to improve public administration in order to forestall public safety is by eradication of corruption, prosecution of corrupt public administrators among others. It was suggested that the masses should elect only credible persons to hold public offices. Also, there is need to put systems and structures in place to checkmate the excesses of public administrators. The study therefore concluded that public administration has a critical role to play in ensuring public safety.","PeriodicalId":311378,"journal":{"name":"African Social Science and Humanities Journal","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124423413","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They have marked and interrogated, in greater detail, how this essential role is augmented in today’s era through these traditional media’s adoption of digital technology. It is against this backdrop that a vast collection of research on mass media campaigns has been conducted across the world; however, many of these studies are seemingly suffused in how these campaigns are expended to enhance the behavior of a target audience positively and submerge or ignore in toto why some of them fail to realize the same. Given the persistent reality of how some of these campaigns are failing to achieve such desirable outcomes, primarily because of inadequate funding that leads to their inconsistent delivery installments, or absolute lack of it through the media, this brief article delves into how such campaigns can still be delivered despite this financial impediment. Based on a qualitative systematic review research design, it demonstrates how mass campaigns can be delivered successfully through earned media coverage. In light of this possibility, it is concluded that relevant institutions seeking to deliver mass campaign messages should do so, at the very outset, by creating an enabling environment for such coverage to ensue. It is argued that such an environment will be realized if these institutions build a sustained series of events and news conferences specifically geared towards availing the campaign content for dissemination to a target audience at an affordable cost.","PeriodicalId":311378,"journal":{"name":"African Social Science and Humanities Journal","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127260462","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its miles a manner of unnatural weather exchange, relatively because of ‘nursery gases’ as an after effect of human interest. Agricultural sector is anticipated to be adversely impacted by environmental change both in the present and in the future, thereby negatively impacting means livelihood and food security. Agriculture undoubtedly is a vital economic factor, and means of livelihoods in South Africa. Because Climate change is expected to reduce crop yields in South Africa, thus affecting food security and livelihood, adaptation strategies need to be implemented to mitigate climate change effects. This paper gives a detailed analysis and implications of environmental change effects on agriculture sectors and significance for achieving growth results such as food security, poverty alleviation, and sustainability in South Africa. Future Prospects for South Africa show decreased rainfall, rising heat, and high unpredictability for the better part of the area coupled with severe declines on the drier and marginal western areas, hence it will affect food security. These consequences has great effects for farming production in South Africa. As a result, South Africa is expected to see 10% to 50% reductions in agricultural output, a situation that might increase food insecurity in the region. By perfecting knowledge through educational institutions, knowledge will be raised concerning the impact of climate change and how to militate against present and anticipated circumstances.","PeriodicalId":311378,"journal":{"name":"African Social Science and Humanities Journal","volume":"96 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125588397","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It emphasizes the importance of improved collaboration, coordination, and adaptability among production entities such as industries, businesses, and institutions. Although production subcontracting has sparked a lot of debate on a broad level, there has been relatively little research done on it in terms of industrial activity. This paper analysed the role of production subcontracting in the distribution of industrial activities in Onitsha Metropolis, Anambra State, Nigeria. While the study adopted a survey research design and a questionnaire survey of 115 industries, charts, percentages and tables were used to show results. The result of the study showed that 49.9% of the industries subcontracted manufacturing activities, while 26.7%, 5% and 1.7% of the surveyed industries subcontracted maintenance, technical development and distribution/marketing industrial activities respectively. The paper recommended that production subcontracting be made a deliberate government policy so as to propel the growth of service industries/subcontracting industries in Nigeria.","PeriodicalId":311378,"journal":{"name":"African Social Science and Humanities Journal","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-01-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117171481","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the reading of these novels one realises that the South African and Indian societies still face ethnic rivalry which has been a perennial problem from time immemorial. The bone of contention underlying this research is the fact that Zakes Mda and Arundhati Roy in their texts present societies fragmented by ethnic rivalry and identity crises which have hindered the effective evolution of these societies. This paper thus, seeks to answer the following questions: How is the fragmented nature of South Africa and India presented by Mda and Roy and what strategies are adopted by characters in these novels to remedy this situation? As a follow-up to these questions, this paper hypothesised that Zakes Mda and Arundhati Roy in similar ways highlight the predicaments of their societies and propose reconciliatory strategies through which these societies can evolve. To proceed with this study, we have chosen the postcolonial theory which aims at scrutinising the inter-human relationships in these societies as presented in these novels. Throughout the analysis, we realised that in societies with many ethnic groups, relationships are developed based on colour or tribal lines, or upon the binaries of the Manichean Allegory, which have a great impact on the relationship between characters. This led to the conclusion that a future space of peace, harmony and fraternity can only be achieved if characters express tolerance, respect each other, and above all reconcile their differences.","PeriodicalId":311378,"journal":{"name":"African Social Science and Humanities Journal","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121207992","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Although, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has less effect on African part in terms of death and casualties in comparison with other parts of the world, but the African political economy has been unswervingly affected, since Africa depends on Western and other developed economies, which are considered as the epicentres of the pandemic. This calls for urgent policy making related to economy within an international system. This study examined the spread of deadly virus across Africa and its implications on African political economy and governance. To accomplish its objectives, this study employed and applied descriptive method where secondary sources of data including books, journals, reports, internet sources and newspapers related to the virus cases and its economic and political impacts were used. Again, theoretical interpretative technique complemented the statistical analysis, where relevant sub-themes are identified and analysed accordingly. Admittedly, the study discovered that COVID-19 pandemic spread speedily in African continent, thanks to globalization, and the pandemic acutely affects the African economy and politics in many ways. Specifically, the study recommends among many that African countries should look inward and identify policies that they can initiate to break the cycle of dependency thereby reducing the level of imports and promoting export.","PeriodicalId":311378,"journal":{"name":"African Social Science and Humanities Journal","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122673679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
