Material and Methods: This study using 27 samples of heat cured acrylic resin for each mechanical strength divided into 3 groups, namely groups with the addition of 0%, 2%, and 5% hydroxyapatite from the weight of the polymer. Results: The analysis showed a significant decrease in transverse strength with 5% addition of hydroxyapatite group (One-way Anova test, p = 0.001), a significant decrease in impact strength occurred in both groups of 2% and 5% addition of hydroxyapatite (One-way Anova test, p = 0.000), and also the addition of 2% & 5% hydroxyapatite caused a significant decrease in tensile strength (One-way Anova test,","PeriodicalId":31119,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Dentomaxillofacial Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"72868070","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim was to report undertaken preventive measures for a clinical case of a young oral cancer survivor with therapy complications who attended at the preventive/ special needs clinic, University of Malaya. Methods: 29 years-old, single female, diagnosed with maxillary gingival squamous cell carcinoma at age of 16, with post -therapy complications. A professional cleaning, fluoride therapy, fissure sealant was applied to tooth #36 & #46, and stainless steel crown was constructed on badly decayed #37. In addition to, detailed dietary advice, tailored oral hygiene instructions, and how to self-examine her mouth periodically for changes. Results: Patient is currently under periodic control, including a followup by oral surgery clinic and preventive clinic (University of Malaya) with special focus on preventive measures to maintain good oral health related to such patients. Conclusion: it is crucial to have a good preventive plan that helps the oral cancer survivor to cope with the consequences of cancer treatment and improve their quality of life. Dentists and oral healthcare professionals who are involved in cancer patient’s treatment play a key role in promoting patient’s oral health and improving their quality of life through multidisciplinary clinical planning. Material and Methods: This was an experimental study with posttest only control group design approach. Purposive technique is applied to collect samples which are clinical students. In this study, sample were divided into 4 groups and each consisting of 10 people. The sample was divided into negative control group with 0.9% normal saline and 1% povidone iodine treatment group with two techniques which is swab and gargle. Results: Based on Mann-Whitney test result on 1% Povidone Iodin group which was rinse and swab technique obtained p-value = 0.382 where p-value > 0.05 so it can be concluded that there is no significant difference between 1% Povidone Iodine in rinsing technique and 1% Povidone Iodine in swabbing. Conclusion: Rinsing was more effective than swab as an aseptic action with 1% Povidone Iodine.","PeriodicalId":31119,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Dentomaxillofacial Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89557382","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Material and Methods: It was a cross sectional analytical study based on Fonseca’s Questionnaire. Results: The sample consisted of 225 participants, 118 of them were men (52.4%) and 107 of them were women (47.6%), with an average age of 37.99 ± 12.05 years old. Almost all of the samples (92%) informed that they did not have a difficulty in mouth opening and moving the jaw to the sides (92%), 84% reported no clenching teeth and 80% reported no articulation disorders. While 34.8% of respondents reported muscular pain during mastication and 38.7% reported suffering from frequent headaches occasionally. Temporomandibular Joints (TMJ) clicking was reported among 13.3% of participants and only a very small number of samples (4.9%) reported pain in the temporomandibular joint. Conclusion: The prevalence of TMD was quite high i.e 50.7%. In term of severity, most of subjects had mild TMD’s (86.8%). The sociodemographic factors that significantly associated with severity of TMD were education and work status.","PeriodicalId":31119,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Dentomaxillofacial Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82148304","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
