Methods: A 22-years-old female patient came with a complaint of pain-free right cheek mass that has enlarged slowly since 2 years. Radiographic examination shows cloudy radiolucent images in the right mandibular corpus to the right mandibular ramus, while histopathological examination indicates ossifying fibroma. Patient underwent mandibular resection followed by iliac bone graftbased mandibular reconstruction. Bone graft was immersed with bisphosphonate (zoledronate acid 0.005 mg /ml) for 3 minutes, then rinsed with saline in 3 minutes, followed by fixing bone graft on the reconstruction plate. Results: Postoperative follow up in the 36th week showed no signs of infection and dehiscence in the surgery site, and the radiographic examination indicated signs of osteogenesis and osteointegration of mandibular bone graft. Conclusion: Local application of biphosponate on bone graft promotes the favorable results of osteogenesis and osteointegration in mandibular reconstruction.","PeriodicalId":31119,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Dentomaxillofacial Science","volume":"7 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78541948","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Method: A 65-year-old male patient came to the Ibnu Sina Makassar Hospital complaining of swelling of the right submandibular blood extending to the buccal sublingual submental and temporal. Patient was in a limp condition shortness of breath (dyspnea) coughing difficulty opening his mouth, difficulty eating, and swallowing with pulse 121 times/minute breathing 32 times/minute and oxygen saturation of 94% (simple mask of 5 lpm). Patient was diagnosed with the right submandibular abscess extending to the right buccal right temporal right and left sublingual and submental with sepsis due to gangrene of tooth root 46. Surgical incision and drainage of the abscess was performed under general anesthesia. Results: Incision and drainage of the abscess in the patient was carried out even with the suspicion that the patient was indicated as having been exposed to COVID-19 by following the principle of preventing COVID-19 infection. Conclusion: Surgical preparation appropriate therapeutic management and proper use of PPE will help provide the best service to patients while protecting medical personnel in the current COVID-19 pandemic era.","PeriodicalId":31119,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Dentomaxillofacial Science","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79694389","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To determine the differences in blood pressure of female patients aged 26-45 years with normal Body Mass Index (BMI) and obesity after administration of local anesthetic containing adrenaline beforedental extraction in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Sumatera Utara.This was an experimental study with a single group pretest-posttest design. Simple random samplingwas used to select the subjects. 16 female patients with normal BMI and 16 female patients with obesity visited the clinic for dental extraction in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, University of North Sumatera. Blood pressure of each subject was measured before and after administration of anesthesia.Data obtained was statistically analyzed usingDependent T-test.Systolic blood pressure between normal and obese subjects after administration of local anesthetic with adrenaline 1:80000 showed significant differences (p<0.05). Diastolic blood pressure between normal and obese subjects after administration of local anesthetic with adrenaline 1:80000 showed less significant differences (p>0.05).Administration of local anesthetic with adrenaline 1: 80000 can increase the blood pressure in obese patients and patients with normal BMI.Obese subjects had higher systolic blood pressure changes compared to subjects with normal BMI. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Date of Submission: 26-07-2019 Date of Acceptance: 12-08-2019 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------","PeriodicalId":31119,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Dentomaxillofacial Science","volume":"6 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"88980209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

TMD can be caused by tooth loss, and tooth loss is widespread among the elderly. Material and Methods: This research is using a correlational analysis with a crosssectional study approach. Tooth loss was divided into six regions (R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6) and joint sounds were divided into four categories (clicking, popping, crepitation, normal). Result: Multinomial logistic regression analysis test for overall tooth loss showed a p-value of 0.000 in clicking and crepitation, and for popping, it has a p-value of 0.248. The results of tests on six regions of tooth loss obtained a p-value of 0.017 at R1 for clicking sound and p-value of 0.014 at R2 for crepitation. This showed that clicking and crepitation had a significant correlation with the amount of tooth loss (p<0.05). Conclusion: The amount of tooth loss has a significant relationship with clicking and crepitation of Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ).","PeriodicalId":31119,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Dentomaxillofacial Science","volume":"144 1","pages":"185"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82474394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
