Validate the model results highly required for any downstream applications (services or scientific studies). In order to enhance confidence in using the INDO12 model outputs in Makassar Strait, qualitative comparisons with observed variables is performed. The datasets were used in this study provided by the INSTANT and MITF programs. Validation of model outputs was performed by compare the value of variables from simulation with observation results.The method of comparisons was conducted as follows:current velocities, temperature and salinity, volume transport. The volume transports differences especially occurred below the thermocline layer. The model was colder and fresher in the thermocline layer, whereas deeper the model was warmer and saltier.The differences of the volume transport and temperature distribution affected the transport-weighted temperature and 16°C isotherm depth. The model produced warmer transport-weighted temperature and deeper 16°C isotherm depth compared to the observations. It is concluded from the validation results that the model give a fairly good comparison with the in-situ data, especially for seasonally signals.Keywords: Validation, INDO12, Ocean Model, Makassar Strait, INSTANT and MITF Programe","PeriodicalId":31102,"journal":{"name":"OmniAkuatika","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42272361","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One factor challenging the production of P. kauderni larvae is the male fish will nurture the eggs and larvae for 30 days, hindering next spawning cycle. One effort to overcome this problem an increase of male fish number should be performed, for example through sex reversal. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the hormone 17α-methyltestosterone (17α-MT) through Artemia sp. to increase male sex percentage P. kauderni. This study used a completely randomized design by testing four treatments namely feeding Artemia sp. which has been soaked with 2.0 mg of the 17α-MT hormone for two- hours given to P. kauderni larvae for 10 days (A); 20 days (B); 30 days (C), and without hormone treatment 17α-MT (control). Each treatment included control was performed in triplicates. The percentage of male sex was 93.33 % at 30 days treatment and was higher (P<0.05) compared to controls (53.3 %). Additionally, the results showed that daily growth rate, biomass gain and survival rate of all treatments were not significantly different (P>0.05) with those of control. Shoreline changes, namely abrasions, can cause problems such as land degradations or loss of land in a coastal zone. This problem occurs in many areas, one of which is Pontang Cape. This study aims to determine the distance and rate of shoreline changes that occured in the Cape and its surroundings, as well as explaining the analysis points based on similar studies that had been conducted. This research used ArcMap software and Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) toolset to determine the distance and rate of shoreline changes for 19 years (1999-2018). Based on the results, there were two shoreline segments where different phenomena of shoreline change took place, namely Banten Bay (accretion) and Pontang Cape-Lontar (abrasion). The most likely causes of changes in the shorelines are sediment runoffs from rivers that lead to bay and sediment transports that affect Banten Bay accretions, while sea sand mining and conversions of mangrove swamps into fishery ponds are factors affecting abrasions in Pontang Cape.Keywords: Abrasion, Accretion, Pontang Cape, Banten Bay, DSAS","PeriodicalId":31102,"journal":{"name":"OmniAkuatika","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45540576","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Climate change and extreme weather conditions are expected to affect marine fisheries’ productivity and modify fish distribution because of changes in water temperature, ocean currents, and other oceanic conditions. Both are issues faced by fishers in Natuna. The purpose of this study was to identify climate and weather changes in the research location, investigate the socio-economic effects, and analyse fishers’ adaptability patterns in relation to climate change. The method used in this study includes surveys, questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions. The results reveal climate change, and extreme weather affects the socio-economic dynamics of fishers in the Natuna Islands. This study was conducted as a scientific contribution for the managements of bottom longline fisheries in Arafura Waters and areolate grouper (Epinephelus areolatus) as one of the target catches. It was carried out from February to December 2017 and in November 2018. Data on the fishing grounds of eight bottom longline vessels were obtained from the vessel monitoring system (VMS) of Probolinggo Marine and Fisheries Resources Supervisory Unit, Mayangan Probolinggo Fishing Port, and Marine and Fisheries Resources Surveillance (PSDKP) Tual Station. Based on the analysis of the coordinates from the VMS, the fishing grounds of the bottom longline vessels in Arafura waters were found around Dolak until the border with Merauke and around Timika until Aru Islands. The composition of dominant catches consisted of croaker (Pennahia spp.) and snapper (Lutjanus spp.), as well as grouper (Epinephelus spp.) in a smaller proportion. The size structure of the areolate grouper caught with bottom longlines was 21.5–54.5 cmTL; its length at first capture (Lc) was 33.9 cmTL; and its asymptotic length was 70.5 cmTL. Its growth rate (K) was found 0.26 per year. The fishing mortality (F) of the species was found higher than its natural mortality (M), and its exploitation level (E) was 0.74, meaning that the species was already overfished. The exploitation should be reduced by 40–50% to keep the fish resources in Arafura sustainable, especially for areolate grouper.
