It is proven that this collection of characteristically designed biographies and an unusual collective biography is an important work of Polish humanities of the turn of the twentieth century that can be placed in relation to both Thomas Carlyle’s hero concept and Jacob Burckhardt’s postulates of the ‘anthropologisation of history’. The three selected biograms (Klaudyna Potocka’s by Aleksander Kraushar, August Hiacynt Dziarkowski’s by Józef Peszke and Adolf Pawiński’s by Jan Karol Kochanowski) are case studies allowing for the reconstruction of the dilemmas and text strategies each time specifying the biographer’s unique workshop and the techniques of uncovering it.","PeriodicalId":31050,"journal":{"name":"Poznanskie Studia Polonistyczne Seria Literacka","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42871234","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The seminar was organized to commemorate the first death anniversary of the Professor whose scientific path began to take shape in Poznań where he worked until 1970. The record of the meeting reflects its course: in the first part, three short speeches were given: – Professor Dobrochna Ratajczakowa talks about the beginnings of Zbigniew Osiński’s career as a researcher, Professor Elżbieta Kalemba-Kasprzak – about the ‘practice of humanities’ in a specific Poznań way, and professor Ryszard K. Przybylski – about the famous article that used information theory tools written by Balcerzan and Osiński. The second part is devoted to the memories of and reflections on the artistic and scientific activity of Professor Osiński in Poznań. Among the guests of the seminar were Professor Edward Balcerzan, Lech Raczak, Piotr Frydryszek, Janina Karasińska – friends and co-workers of Professor Osiński.","PeriodicalId":31050,"journal":{"name":"Poznanskie Studia Polonistyczne Seria Literacka","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45946608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

She considers the works of O. Boznańska, W. Weiss and T. Tchórzewski as poetic manifestations of the literary practice of everyday life, a type of poeticised documents. The presence of poetry in artists’ lives is multi-faceted: loose pages preserved in a scrapbook, entries in a journal and autonomous works printed in the press, hence their role in creative biography is different. The common ground is a syncretic perception of creativity; the preserved texts co-create a kind of artistic site where the boundaries between the publication, the exhibition and the project performance blur, requiring special editing operations.","PeriodicalId":31050,"journal":{"name":"Poznanskie Studia Polonistyczne Seria Literacka","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43449831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The personalist biography model refers in terms of anthropology to Viktor E. Frankl, the founder of logotherapy (‘Third Viennese School of Psychotherapy’) and the key thinkers of the personalist movement: Karol Wojtyła, Mieczysław Krąpiec, Józef Tischner and Czesław S. Bartnik. Stressing the subjective aspect of biography, the personalist model allows for capturing the personal character of the created biographical portrait of a given person while also taking into account the postulates formed by the critics of biographical writing in its traditional and later structuralist forms, especially the postulates related to the requirement of biographer’s objectivity and neutrality. The personalist biography model also takes into consideration the insights of the French theorists on the inevitable involvement of the researcher in the reconstructed picture of a life and the considerations on the character of representation (by F. Ankersmit and M. P. Markowski).","PeriodicalId":31050,"journal":{"name":"Poznanskie Studia Polonistyczne Seria Literacka","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44929993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Polish writer (as an émigré) is extremely sensitive to the fate of artists forced to live away from their birthplace and, unlike Thomas Mann, proposes an interpretation according to which the loss of a shadow means the lack of homeland. Herling understands breaking away from his homeland as a kind of physical handicap: an existence without native land. However, if the roots can be found in another soil, it is impossible to regain the shadow. Herling introduces the distinction between hard existence and indeterminacy of feelings of a man eradicated, combining the alienation experienced in Naples with an intangible, but also irreversible loss of a shadow.","PeriodicalId":31050,"journal":{"name":"Poznanskie Studia Polonistyczne Seria Literacka","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49413006","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the authors was to identify and indicate the potential ways to study the life and works of the writer, and the expected result of the research is a biography of Odojewski. The research was based on the exploration of the writer’s private collection: unpublished documents, manuscripts, typescripts, personal papers, correspondence, family and estate papers and photographs. The authors focused on a number of issues. One, the biographical facts that influenced Odojewski’s output – World War II, frequent relocations, censorship and a ban on publishing in Poland, emigration, the relation with the Polish Institute in Maisons-Laffitte and working at Radio Free Europe’s editorial office. Two, the analysis of literary works including hundreds of typescripts in many variants (related to the phases of the genetic history of a literary work through the stages of Odojewski’s life) which allowed for describing Odojewski’s writing techniques. Three, ‘The writer’s map’ which points out places important for the author – Poznań, Gniezno, Kłecko, Podole,Szczecin, Warsaw, Paris, Berlin, Munich. Four, the correspondence (personal and cultural) which can be used as an important source of knowledge of the history of Polish post-war emigration. One of the most interesting parts of the collection is a collection of letters from Jerzy Giedroyć that show Polish culture outside the Iron Curtain.","PeriodicalId":31050,"journal":{"name":"Poznanskie Studia Polonistyczne Seria Literacka","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-11-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47759781","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
